http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/316395/Madeleine-McCann-police-We-have-evidence-that-may-help-us-solve-the-mystery
Wednesday April 25,2012
By John Twomey
THE detective leading Scotland Yard’s probe into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann has given new hope to her parents by declaring how police aim to solve the case.
Andy Redwood says the work of his 35-strong squad is the “best opportunity yet” of discovering exactly what happened to the little girl who went missing days before her fourth birthday while on holiday in Portugal.
Detective Chief Inspector Redwood explained the key to his inquiry is bringing together three separate investigations.
A mass of material from police in Portugal and Britain along with files from private investigators hired by Madeleine’s parents Kate and Gerry McCann is now housed in Belgravia police station in central London.
“We are here in terms of seeking to bring closure to the case. That would be our ultimate objective,” Mr Redwood told BBC’s Panorama.
“Closure means establishing what has happened to Madeleine McCann.”
Interviewer Richard Bilton asked him: “Solving it?” Mr Redwood replied: “Yes, solving it, of course.”

î
Detective Chief Inspector Redwood
He said the task facing the Yard team is massive. He said: “Our initial estimates in terms of the amount of material we are facing is that it will be somewhere in the region of 40,000 pieces of information.
“There is, ultimately, a process of us turning every single piece of paper over and interpreting and analysing what is contained within them.
“Anything is possible, and clearly, within that material, the answer could lie.”
The probe, codenamed Operation Grange, was launched in May last year after the McCanns, from Rothley, Leics, appealed directly to Prime Minister David Cameron for help from Scotland Yard.
Last week, officers made a fourth visit to Portugal and they have also been to Spain twice.
So far, Operation Grange has cost taxpayers £2million. The money has come from a Home Office contingency fund.
Madeleine vanished from a flat in the holiday resort of Praia da Luz on the Portuguese Algarve coast on May 3, 2007. The Portuguese, who faced severe criticism over the way the investigation was handled, formally shelved the case in 2008. But Mr Redwood said he hopes the work of the Operation Grange team, composed of 28 detectives and seven civilian support staff, will lead to the inquiry there being re-opened.
He said: “I am satisfied that the systems and processes that we are bringing to this set of circumstances will give us the best opportunity to find those investigative opportunities that we can then present to our colleagues in Portugal.”
Mr Redwood stressed the advantage of having all the available evidence in one place, including the detailed dossier compiled by Metodo 3, the Barcelona-based investigations firm hired by the McCanns.
Francisco Marco, the agency’s director, has revealed that up to eight “important leads” were handed to Operation Grange when officers from the Yard visited Spain in December, last year.
Mr Redwood said: “We are drawing together information from three separate sources. At no time before have those three elements been drawn together in one place.
“And so what we’ve done over the past number of months is to bring to one place all those pieces of the jigsaw.”
The Panorama programme is on BBC1 at 7.30pm tonight, apart from in the North-west. It also features an interview with Goncalo Amaral, who led the initial Portuguese inquiry.
He was removed after his outspoken criticism of the British involvement in the investigation.
He said: “It’s a fact that our investigation had its faults and lost a lot of time, lots of time. And a lot of things didn’t get followed up. I’m just as much to blame for that as anyone else.”

Thanks Matthew, so basically they are saying that the case may be solved by the evidence given to them by Metado 3 in spain .

Ah so they have just cobbled together the Panorama story with the one about Metodo having leads that weren't followed up. The Express and Star are the same group I believe.

Re: Panorama:Madeleine:The Last Hope...Thur 3rd May
think about it another way; if there was evidence to solve the case in the mcann's favour, they would have been the first to have been told!!!!
Clarence would be out and there would be interviews and gloating EVERYWHERE.
Yet there is a silence, they don't actually know what is going to be said in the show either!
This can be evidenced by the PR rep management spooks hovering around that Panorama Comments page!
This is the best quote. They've evidently really been mulling over the rogatory interviews!
Especially as they went through the hassle of getting them retranslated again!
The answers in there do indeed lie

Re: Panorama:Madeleine:The Last Hope...Thur 3rd May
I can see where this going now...Remember the story of the 8 new leads reported that they fed into the media at the end of last year, which we know was in the M3 files , then the Leveson Inquiry, all the latest sightings. Its all part of the plan
Tomorrow will be a whitewash which has been planned since they started the 'review' but don't disappointed as this is their plan of attack. We believe in truth, in justice for Maddie, in the values of not only this country but life. This is just a battle lost but not the war. We are fighting evil and they fight dirty using all their powers and might. Tomorrow we just take it on the chin and continue afterwards to get truth and justice, sometimes like tomorrow it will feel like it will never happen but it will if we continue to fight for it. They will never win however they try, this is too important

Well said!
I agree it's going to be supportive of the abduction thesis and whiter than white. But it is only one more battle as you say.
However, I fully intend to continue to seek Truth and Justice for Madeleine however long it takes and whatever the outcome - so be it.

Re: Panorama:Madeleine:The Last Hope...Thur 3rd May
If Goncalo Amaral really did say, "It's a fact that our investigation had it's faults and lost a lot of time, lots of time. A lot of things didn't get followed up, I'm just as much to blame for that as anyone else." He has admitted that the PJ under his control were very incompetent. This is music to the McCanns ears and if no charges are made against them, they will really go to town on Dr Amaral and sue the pants off him. He will have no defence, because the McCanns have been saying for yonks that a lot of things didn't get followed up and he has more or less admitted that what the McCanns have been saying is true.
On the other hand, maybe Goncalo Amaral, didn't say those words, maybe his words were twisted by the British media, the same British media, who said he told the McCanns to "eff off" in Portuguese, when he said nothing of the sort.

I suspect this is another DE fairy story but do think Andy Redwood has overstepped the mark giving an interview at all. I hope he is not one of those
Detectives getting too close to the Media who we all know distort every word. This review needs absolute silence until completed and no wild speculation. It was this type of journalism which distorted the PJ investigation in the beginning "sardine muncher" the most infamous description.

If there have been serious criminal cases where the police have not taken any wrong turns, lost time with red herrings etc., I suggest that these were cases with particularly stupid criminals!
Re: Panorama:Madeleine:The Last Hope...Thur 3rd May
The reason the pj lost time was because off the mccanns.......the mccanns played games and played for time.....the only mistake the pj made was NOT making the mccanns arquidos in the beginning and treating them with 'tweezers'.
The mistakes were caused by the mccanns.

Of course it was. Without interference and manipulation of 'contacts,' by those involved, a police investigation can probably take many twists and turns and police can find themselves chasing their own tails. With people like diplomats being brought in, insisting that the police concentrate on one theory, the investigation gets stalled. As for Control Risks Group, what risks were they controlling? CRG, according to a high-ranking employee on Radio 4, helps companies trying to set up in Developing countries and countries where there may be risks because of the political environment and helps companies get their people out in situations of turmoil and unrest. So, in the McCann case, what risks were they controlling? Their stated roll does not include finding missing children. So, if they were in PDL, why were they there?

Morning kitti, I do think the PJ were too soft with them , overawed by the Worldwide interest in the case and yes, as I have said all along a recon should have been organised while the Mccanns were still in Portugal and OC Staff still working there. For me that was the most serious mistake and
who knows what might have been the result.

Oldartform wrote:That News Clip looks totally McCann favourable - welcoming the SY review to take the pressure off them, showing how hard they`re campaigning etc, but really showing Goncalo in a bad light - typically BBC stance and I doubt the Panorama programme will be any different. I won`t be watching it.
I can't watch it, since I don't have a TV. Don't think I'd be able to sit through it.
It is totally out of order for a police officer engaged in a review of a case to give his opinion on the media. That clinched it for me. TM have been told to shut up whilst the last whitewash is going on - the media totally compliant, Leveson licking boots .... Panorama went downhill from the moment the fragrant Princess of Wales decided to hang out her dirty washing. A completely directed programma with flapping eyelashes, phrases she'd never been able to think of herself, scripted for her.
It'll be the same here. Amaral hung out to dry - British investigation - that's fine then, seeing your ?% success rate! The xenophobia so beloved by the media is already there in the clips.
Then there's us:
From the transcript of the Lorraine Kelly interview.
KM: But having said that I mean I think there’s just a small minority now and you know there’s a certain group out there who, this is their job really, is to pick on a vulnerable family and I’m sure after us they’ll move onto another family and..." unquote.

I think we should wait and see what is said. Who knows Redwood may say no more than is shown on the trailer. He doesn't have to give anything away about the review but just say they are all working together to get to the truth. Let's see tonight.

Quickfingers, I checked out tonight's programmes on my T.V. remote and there is no Panorama programme, I think any Member who has a morning Paper should check out the T.V. Page and let us know. It would be very unusual to change any programme unless it was a major event or catastrophe so
tend to think next Monday is the right date.

Then that's been changed. When I looked at seven o'clock last night it still said Rip Off Britain. Mind you given the amount of our taxpayers money that has been wasted on this farce, it probably amounts to the same thing.

Morning Panda,
It is showing on my Sky listing for tonight. When I checked yesterday the only tv listing it was showing on was the BBC on line one. But this morning it is showing on my tv. As I understand it, BBC Scotland and North West will not see it tonight.
