TWISTED trolls have sent death threats to Kate McCann over the disappearance of her daughter Maddie.

As police raised new hopes of solving the mystery, one sicko posted a vile message calling for the 45-year-old former GP to be shot.

It appeared on a Facebook page devoted to the youngster, who vanished from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, Portugal, in May 2007.

The fiend wrote: “Just shoot the f***ers. World’s bad enough with wars now we have these mind games.

“Stick a gun to Kate’s head and she will tell ya they were bulls**tting all along.”

Others left similar messages abusing Kate and her 45-year-old heart consultant husband Gerry.

Friends of the McCanns called on Facebook to remove the offensive messages and shut down the group.

One said: “It’s disgusting anyone could write anything like that. Hasn’t Kate suffered enough? Whoever has done this should be in a police cell.”

Yesterday it was revealed that lawyers have visited Portugal in connection with Scotland Yard’s £5m review of the case, which has unearthed up to 20 suspects.

London’s chief crown prosecutor Alison Saunders and her deputy Jenny Hopkins met Portuguese law chiefs to discuss the new leads.

The visit, the first by senior UK prosecutors, underlines the belief among senior British detectives that the case could still be solved.

The Daily Star, I think it is also part of the Express group, has been the only one reporting on the McCanns until now, maybe the McCanns drew attention to the Facebook story to get sympathy.

The comment appeared by someone new and was deleted within minutes HiDeHo said on that page.

Classic set-up, that page is attracting more people everyday, they are a target to get taken down as the recent trolling there suggests.

I'm a member there, nobody speaks like that there, that incident from weeks ago was clearly a joke but a good marketing ploy for desperate people.

I don't belong to facebook, twitter or the other one....can't remember the name Lol There are so many complaints about Facebook now, it is likely to close down because theere is so much activity there the site cannot be monitored.

I do not agree at all with threats against anyone, but if this was a comment made as in the Gun threat incident, I really think its a ploy to get people alongside. I have often wondered, bearing in mind HiDeHos comments about that incident, what the police thought about all the publicity surrounding it.

It was a remark about a starting gun. There was NO death threat against Kate or indeed anyone else! It was taken purely out of context and spun like a tumble drier. The police were involved because Ian West had informed them, he also had screen shot the comment and sold it to the media. No action was taken against the person, and it was duly forgotten.

thanks for that Fred. My comments were a bit ambiguous I see now. I was trying to say bearing in mind that the police investigated and realised it was blown out of all proportion what they thought of all the publicity saying there was a death threat and K was being brave and carrying on running and all that s****.

I am wondering what's happened to Pam Gurney though. Maybe she had a road to Damascus conversion (like Brenda Ryan but the other way round) and is too ashamed to show her face!

i just wanted to say and dont think im on the mcanns side but IMO on either side there is no excuse to threaten someones life i dislike the mcanns and i dont hide that but imo death threats to anyone is not on on either side imo this has taken things too far

I agree, I don't like the McCanns, but I would never resort to this kind of behaviour. Hopefully whoever made these threats, will be exposed and prosecuted.

totally agree thats why i changed my wording violince of any kind even threats is not acceptible

While I hold the McCanns responsible for the "disappearance" of Madeleine, there is no excuse for threats of violence of any kind and I would expect the proper authorities to deal with any threats, just as I expect them to get to the bottom of her "disappearance".

It's quite possible that whoever made the statements is a member of Team McCann and the purpose is to tar everyone who doesn't believe their nonsense with the same brush.

NBY I am concerned that when there is much about the case, and not much about the McCs in the media, there is either a sighting or someone threatens the McCs .
