KATE MCCANN: MY GIUILT ABOUT MADDIE

By Tracey Kandohia
KATE McCann says the guilt she feels at failing to keep missing daughter Madeleine safe has made her “over-protective” towards her twins.
She strives to allow seven-year-olds Sean and Amelie some freedom, but “inevitably wants to mollycoddle them”.
Kate’s confession of her struggle to do what is best for the twins came as Madeleine would have turned nine yesterday.
The GP, who quit working in a surgery because she didn’t want the twins left alone with child carers, said: “It’s so difficult not to be overprotective towards Sean and Amelie.
“It is inevitable, but you have to fight against it to let them develop. You have to get the balance.”
Husband Gerry said: “I am certainly more protective than I was, but you can’t mollycoddle them. They have to be independent. What happened to us is incredibly rare.”
Kate told how she and Gerry would always feel “that sense of guilt” at leaving Madeleine, then aged three, and the toddler twins alone in a Portuguese holiday apartment while they dined at a nearby tapas restaurant with friends. On that fateful night five years ago Madeleine vanished.

î
Kate McCann
In an interview with a Swedish magazine, Kate said: “At times we have felt so desperately guilty. As Madeleine’s parents we had failed to keep her safe and will always struggle to bear that guilt.
“If the same thing had happened to another family we would have been amazed they had left their children alone. And we’re guilty! There are so many times we chide ourselves for doing that.”
She believes her daughter could still be found alive and dare not say the word “dead,” adding: “I know the worst thing ever could have happened to Madeleine, but I don’t want to think about that.
“While there is nothing to suggest she has come to any harm we will continue searching for her. Any mother and father would do the same. We cannot give up.”
Madeleine’s pink bedroom at the family home in Rothley, Leicestershire, remains “full of gifts from kind people” and is visited by Kate every day.
She said: “Not a day goes by without me saying good morning to her and good night to her.”
The room is still a play haven for the twins. “Sean and Amelie often play in Madeleine’s room. They feel close to their big sister there.
“The uncertainty is there all the time, and Madeleine is always there in my head.”

I wonder what their definition of 'over-protective' is, given that leaving babies of 3 and under 'felt right'?

I think they have seen the error of their ways...Gerry especially,as he is now even more protective
They have chided themselves...a definition of chide-to speak to someone severely because they have behaved badly

Re: KATE MCCANN: MY GIUILT ABOUT MADDIE
Well it didnt stop them leaving the twins amongst child carers in the aftermath of Madeleines 'disappearance' - the twins were dumped back into the creche!!!
However the twins are much older now arent they and require less immediate attention!!

Re: KATE MCCANN: MY GIUILT ABOUT MADDIE
Didn't Gerry say, in a recent interview, that Kate had been previously over-protective?
Why all this now? Are they losing public sympathy? Suddenly after five years they feel guilty?

Interesting, I had exactly the same thought. Why now ?
That said, it is a half hearted attempt.

Re: KATE MCCANN: MY GIUILT ABOUT MADDIE
What a load of rubbish, as someone has already pointed out, the twins were dumped the creche, the very next day, while the McCanns attended to their important business, which didn't include searching for Madeleine, but did include participating in all the leisure activies, the holidaymakers who were searching for Madeleine, were forced to abandon.
The twins were also looked after by family and friends, when the McCanns went to Fatima, Rome and other European places, where they peddled their lies in their many media interviews. Interviews that were designed to show anyone who watched, that they were the victims, it wasn't their fault that Madeleine disappeared. Even though she was left unsupervised, in their unlocked, unlit apartment.
I can't believe some people are still believing the McCanns lies.

Erm.... toddlers meeting catastrophes due to parents leaving them alone happens quite regularly Gerry.
Kate conveniently omits she perilously left her 3 toddlers FIVE NIGHTS IN A ROW. Is this yet another TM sleazy attempt to rewrite history?
Stop boring us all with your money grubbing, yawn inducing, stories Kate and Gerry McCann!

Re: KATE MCCANN: MY GIUILT ABOUT MADDIE
I don't think the pair have any feelings at all...both as hard as nails.
It's just another story to keep the spotlight on them. Also, they could be very worried in case someone started quizzing the twins.
Seeing Kate has written a couple of books, or had them written for her, she isn't very good at English. She wrote a letter to , I think it was Portugal, and used Me instead of My...still doing it...
Quote "She said: “Not a day goes by without me saying good morning to her and good night to her.” end of quote.
Obviously, she has never heard of a gerund. How standards have plummeted.

Yes, I believe they are losing sympathy.
A large number of people who may have been quite supportive initially, have read and seen all sorts of information in the media lately.
*The review that will cost taxpayers in the region of £3 mill -personally ordered by the PM, at the behest of Murdoch's crew. People are asking why.
*The fact that the McCanns were paid £500k to £1mill for serialisation of the book. People are asking what the McCanns are using this money for, as taxpayers are funding the review of leads (to all intents and purposes, an investigation and search).
*People continue to ask why the McCanns are receiving preferential treatment, when they so clearly were at best, negligent.
*People are asking why they need to retain a PR spokesman and massive legal team.
*People have expressed misgivings over some of the content of Kate's book, feeling that parts of it are somewhat inappropriate.
*People are seeing the sterling work of people such as HiDeHo on social media and asking unfortunate questions.
It is my real belief that support amongst the average people, those who have never seriously followed the case, is at one of its lowest points in the whole 'campaign'.
Hence the need to do these interviews which emphasise their guilt and contrition. It's a move to try to get the masses back on side, and their hands back in their pockets. Imo.

Why on earth would Sean and Amelie feel close to their big sister? It was Kate herself who told the world that the twins never really had much to do with Madeleine. I would be very worried about the mental state of the twins growing up and having all this guilt embedded in their minds re the "missing" sister they never actually knew.

Kate was only working one and a half days a week, so what is she talking about. Who was looking after the Twins while Kate was at work, all of a
sudden she couldn't trust them.???Sometimes Kates mouth should engage her Brain !!!! Like the remark she made that helping Eddie and Pat was
"the most important job I will ever have " .

No worries Kate, the public will dig deep and top up Gerry's meagre old salary with their generous donations.

Never mind. There's always the film rights which could be sold for a tidy sum. With free DVD given away by the sun. And maybe a second review could be called for with another letter to the PM and a bit of 'persuasion'. Because let's face it by the time the review is finshed the first leads will be out of date so they'll have to start again. And so the circus rolls on.

I am very certain that every single word they say about the twins is BS as children that young just don't have those sort of complex informed opinions. And i think they know they will never give anything away as on teh night in question they were elsewhere physically and due to being knocked out!

Yes kathybelle, especially if no evidence of abduction is found, the Press will have a field day and the public who paid for this will lose any sympathy.
Their "Friends" will fade away and their Celebrity status sink without trace.
