Yes, I believe they spent a night, and possibly two, in a sports bar watching the football, but I think there was an adult behind in one of the apartments.

I believe the crying and I believe Mrs Fenn.  

However, the adults of the group were not familiar people to the children.  They did not see them regularly, did not live close by, were not related.  If I put myself in the checkers shoes and I hear Madeleine crying.  I go into the apartment, try to calm her down, she gets worse, it's dark, late, I'm not well known to her.  The others are not at the Tapas I can't call them.  I can stay with her, but then my own kids are alone.  What to do ?  Leave her hope the others will return soon, hope she settles and falls back to sleep.  

Don't get me wrong, even with a checking system, I still consider it neglectful.

I'm just not buying their story and I don't think it's a case that the PJ let them go.  Had they been prosecuted for neglect, then they were free from any other charges.

They may never be charged but at least there was a tiny gap left in the hedge to get us where we are today. The alternative is they became two people convicted with child abandonment, back home, running a fund to make money to look for a missing child, happy in the knowledge Portugal could not touch them.

Mossman, they didn't even search for Madeleine on the night, half of PDL was out until the early hours of the morning , but the McCanns "were busy. "  I think it very likely that Madeleine was dead in 5a and her body hidden until the coast was clear for Gerry to dispose of her body, callous as it sounds.

I agree with you Panda and its likely so too did the police, hence no point in the abandonment charges.

If they are ever held accountable, then it will have been a wise decision.

We can only hope.

I'm going away for Christmas mossman so I hope the trial is over by then and we can all relax...somehow I think it will carry on until the New year, perish the thought.

Secondly....duarte has accused mr amaral off selling the books AFTER the ban and demanded to see receipts.


Just like she accused him off getting benefits and it was proved he wasn't.

Apparently 27th November is when the Judge announces whether the McCanns can be "assistentes". If she has any sense she will deny the request, the McCanns refused to attend a recon, were not prepared to attend the trial until they realised their Witnesses were crap, have done nothing but cause the Portugese money and accused them of not doing enough......If the judge has any sense she will deny them.. their arrogance knows no bounds.

Forget about the assistentes for now, it's not about the libel trial, it is in the future and will be part of the newly re-opened investigation, it is separate from Amaral's case.

The judge will decide on 27th if they can appear at the libel trial as witnesses or plaintiffs, that is all. She will also consider the same application from Snr Amaral.

But their request to be assistentes is nothing to do with the libel trial. The assistente thing is the re-opening of the investigation. So that would be a different judge deciding would it not.

Yes, completely separate, nothing to do with Amaral and libel at all.

O.K. well why take up the Courts time with it. ? Anyway, this trial has more to do with other things besides the "assistentes., as fr as I remember the Book Publisher has to produce figures of the sale of Amaral's book by 27th November , as I said, this would never be allowed in a U.K. Court, the Trial is not about how many Books Amaral sold, it is about his Book hindering the search for Madeleine and in my opinion another delaying tactic. Duarte was exactly the same in the injunction Trial, histrionics etc. Do you know if Amaral's Lawyer will tell the Court how long Duarte kept the books? it is hardly likely they would publish any more so how can she ask when she knows he never had the books? It took a Court Order for them to be returned.

The judge is deciding if the McC's can address the court on the 27th Nov. To do with the Libel trial against Snr Amaral.
The 'assistentes' request is because the Portuguese have reopened the case. A separate thing all together.

Thanks wjk , pardon my ignorance here , I read it would entitle them to read the evidences so they ARE involved.!! What gets me is the way the McCanns dominate the Court. they didn't want to attend the hearing , yet now they are involving themselves and adding more time to Court procedure. We have a very different system don't we, I doubt anything like that would be allowed here. Why didn't Amaral's Lawyer protest about the publisher having to produce figures when he knew the book was sequestered and they had to go to Court to get them released, not so long ago. ? I give up

What do you mean? This judge has nothing to do with that. She will not waste a second with the 'assistentes' request because it has zero to do with the libel trial.
It is absolutely normal that the court wants to know how much money was made by GA, by TVI and by the publisher. In case any of them lost the compensation would have to take the profits into account.

Right, back on topic, another snippet from the book:-

In each of these in relation to the continued sleeping of the twins through the entire episode , and the possibility of sedation there is precisely NOTHING.

The whole issue is sidestepped , even in the book it is glossed over in 63 words.

p.75 " I wandered into the children's bedroom several times to check on Sean and Amelie . They were both lying on their fronts in a kind of crouch, with their heads turned sideways and their knees tucked under their tummies.. In spite of the noise and lights and general pandemonium , they hadn't stirred . They'd always been sound sleepers , but this seemed unnatural . Scared for them too , I placed the palms of my hands on thei backs to check for chest movement, basically , for some sign of life. Had Madeleine been given some kind of sedative to keep her quiet? Had the twins too? It was not until about 11.10pm that 2 Policemen arrived from the Nearest Town, Lagos , about 5 miles away . To me they seemed bewildered and out of their depth , and I couldn't shake the images of Tweedledum and Tweedledee out of my head. I realise how unfair this might sound , but with communicaton hampered by the language barrier and precious time passing , their presence did not fill me with confidence at all.

There are some strange and worrying aspects to this extract.

The use of "wandered as a verb of motion during this frantic phase of a search for a missing child.

On the previous and adjacent pages we find "yelled", "hitting out at things", banging my fists on the railings" "running from pillar to post" "dashed over"
"throwing open" "hurtling out", "started screaming", "was hysterical", sprinted back" and many other more intensely active verbs clearly carefully selected to give a real impression of terror, speed and urgency.

Here we are given "wandered into the bedroom" as the verbal phrase defining the action of the mother of a missing child checking that her two remaining children who she suspected had been anaesthetised, WERE STILL ALIVE! "

It started off analysing an EBOOK that the Author was giving away free. I printed a copy because I didn't know how to download. As you can see , there was a lot of discussion, then it was sidetracked by other posts on a different topic. The post I just put in is the last and open for discussion .

I just wonder how the McCanns got away scot free.

I did not know it was about a book Panda unless I have missed something on the thread. which book was it?

I can't remember the name of the Author Fuzeta but I put the link on here a while ago at the request of jinvta. I came across it accidentally , the Author created an EBook....over 100 pages, free to download .
I wasn't sure how to download so printed a copy and typed here some of the bits I thought interesting. As you can see it created a lot of interest . If you want to download ask jinvta for the link , or maybe I still have it.

Perhaps you should start a new thread in the book section panda ! Titled EBook so people can find it easy as you say there's been a lot of interest.
Then this thread can stick with the Buzzards !

As I said, I posted the last bit I have earlier so we have exhausted the topic now . I'll try and find the link and post that (unless I can find it here.) then Members can copy and paste it and download the book themselves to read at their leisure. What a good idea though to let people download his book, it is very factual .
