Think you should be champions come monday ?
Or Tuesday night actually.
I'd like them to go up as champs, but I'm not going to put a bent penny on them doing so.
That's all we can ever do with the city..
Well, the city proved me wrong...
Let's hope we can survive for a season with the big boys...

Re: Footie Thread...................
Morning Lioned..
Hopefully he'll get a few more games than this season otherwise he'll be looking further afield. City have always had this problem of not keeping a really strong reserve side.
Schmeikel is one worry that Pearson must be having nightmares over. According to the Mercury Arsenal are after him waving their cheque book. The city have placed a £30k/week maximum on wages, whereas the likes of Arsenal/Man U and co would probably pay that as a daily retainer and not even notice their bank balance.
Schmeikel has said he's a happy bunny here but........?

Yes we didnt need any favours in the end which is how it should be.Have to feel sorry for Doncaster as they lost out to a Birmingham goal in about the 93 rd minute i think. And by all accounts a very dodgy Leicester penalty.
Lets hope next season is less fretful for the both of us.

Re: Footie Thread...................
I still believe the 'Championship', or as i still like to call it division two is the most exiting league in the World so much more so than the Premier league,or as i still like to call it division one !
So many twists and turns right up to the last day of the season and still got the play off games. And certainly not short of some good old famous clubs.Leeds,Forest,Birmingham,Bolton,Derby,Sheff Wed,And next season Wolves and Fulham and off course the mighty Millwall.
And almost any of them can win or loose. The premier league you may see better quality football but a competition that only two or three teams are ever likely to win so what are the others competing for if they have no realistic chance of finishing top six.
And players picking up ridiculous wages just to exhibit on the tv.

Re: Footie Thread...................
You are right Lioned. I, like you can harken back to the pre Sky tv 'loadsamoney' days when opposing supporters could manage to stand next to each other for a full 90 minutes without breaking Newkie Brown' bottles over each others heads in order to enjoy a good match.
Back in the day almost any team could and did lift its game to beat teams from another division in a cup match on a regular occurrence.
The players themselves did regular jobs, many training at night. I think a lot of them trained really hard in their local pub washing down their high protein meals they'd bought from the chippy.
I remember the Leicester captain of the 1949 Cup side thatwere robbed by lost to Wolves (Norman Plummer), collecting my gran's (who we lived with) rent.

Re: Footie Thread...................
Football has got ridiculous.Birmingham City who survived their Championship status yesterday thanks to a goal in the 94th minute have actually paid their over rated striker Nikola Zidic more than their gate revenue for the season since they signed him i think 3 years ago !
How is a business supposed to work on that basis ! Lucky for them his contract is expiring any time now.
Talking of bottles and wages.
When i first started going to Millwall in the mid 60's the Docks where on their last knockings ! Millwall where the only club in the league given special permission to kick off at 3.15 pm every home game, the extra 15 minutes allowed the Dockers to get there in time for the kick off after finishing work.
They where as tuff as old boots and would bring their bottled beer to the ground and chuck the empties on to the pitch. Not usually directed at anyone in particular, sometimes the ref,but mostly just out of habit. The ball boys collected them up at half time and those where the days when you got 3d back on the bottle.
One week the club printed a request in the programme for more bottles as they needed help paying the wages.I think it was an attempt at humour but i was never quite sure.

I remember being in Leeds in 1967 watching Leeds play Kilmarnock at Elland Rd, I think it was a Fairs cities cup match and can't remember the score, but can vividly remember the Kilmarnock fans getting rid of their empties as you've just described.

Anyway the season is over for Millwall and Leicester and ,sadly Bromley, who managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
I will enjoy the play off games and look forward to the World Cup knowing full well that Rooney will cop off with some tart on the Copacabana and Gerard will probably lump some bouncer in the Cafe de Zozo !

Manchester City 4-0 Aston Villa
City go back to the top of the premier league with one game left,at home to West Ham on Saturday so tgats the title wrapped up then for City.
Liverpool had it in their grasp and blew it !

Also Sunderland 2-0 West Brom
So Sunderland are safe for another season and that just about condemns Norwich to relegation

Re: Footie Thread...................
Well its the last day of the Prem league today and its Man City v West Ham and Liverpool v Newcastle.
Liverpool had the title in their grasp until Gerards unfortunate slip gave Chelsea the win at Anfield and then remarkably they let a three goal lead slip at Palace,So only got themselves to blame if everything goes to form today.
Somehow cant see Man City slipping up at home to West Ham today and poor old Sam is destined for the sack later on.
Liverpool need to beat Newcastle and hope for City to slip up but wouldnt be surprised if Newcastle come to spoil whats left of the party anyway.
So much for the moneybags 'fair play' league.

Re: Footie Thread...................
And well done to Manchester City who managed to win the English league today with, you guessed it,...
A starting line up that included one (Yes One) English player.
That is just one reason why i really dont care much for the premier league.
And its one reason why our National team will be pretty poor in the coming World Cup.
Another reason would be that the average weekly wage for these players is probably eight x the yearly wage of a shop worker and 4 x the yearly wage of a nurse and probably more than the average persons whole pension pot.

Re: Footie Thread...................
And their stock answer is.. 'It's only a very short career'.
A total load of gonads.
Leicester's maximum payout/week to a player is £30,000. I'm pretty sure if they don't raise their sights by a multiple of at least 5, there will be an exodus from the club by players who can't somehow manage to to get by on £120k/month, even with a house and car chucked in.

Stop Press.........
FA Cup Final Score. !!!
Arsenal. 3 v 12 Hull City
Shock for the Ar$e fans as they celebrate Hull City score 10 goals in extra extra time as Arsenal take too long to climb the steps as Arsene Wengers zimmer frame gets stuck half way up and turns around to realise the ref hadnt blown his whistle yet.
Even the press and tv pundits where fooled into thinking Arsenal had won !
