Update Portugal Resident
Madeleine: “No significant clues”, “imminent arrests likely” and “huge disappointment” As Metropolitan police are due to move on to two new search sites in their high-profile ground search for clues into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, newspapers and television are reporting conflicting stories. The only certainty is that officers are taking advantage of the Bank Holiday in Portugal tomorrow to halt operations until Wednesday. After that, searches are set to continue until the following Saturday. The Daily Mail talks of a small water treatment sub-station, a derelict farmhouse and an abandoned well, while elsewhere there is talk about a plot opposite "a Brazilian-themed restaurant" on the old road into Lagos. All these sites are thought to be to the east of Luz. The Daily Star also talks about an area of overgrown wasteland along the coast in Burgau (to the west of Luz), while several news websites report on a story that maintains “Scotland Yard detectives will be arresting a number of suspects in the very near future”. It really depends on what you read. The Daily Star quotes a Portuguese police source as saying British police are “hugely disappointed” that they have not been able to “find new leads” in this massively expensive police exercise. “The confidence in the success of the operation diminishes with each hour that passes,” the source told the tabloid. “The faces of the English police don’t hide their disappointment”. But for now at least, the faces of the English police will most likely be pointing towards the Algarve sun as they reportedly set about enjoying two days of R&R before returning to work on the search for the little girl who went missing seven long conjecture-filled years ago. - See more at: http://portugalresident.com/madeleine-%E2%80%9Cno-significant-clues%E2%80%9D-%E2%80%9Cimminent-arrests-likely%E2%80%9D-and-%E2%80%9Chuge-disappointment%E2%80%9D#sthash.0UbCDbj8.UTCzfKsK.dpuf

Madeleine McCann: British cops are keeping Portugal's bars in business
BRITISH police hunting for Madeleine McCann are welcome in Portugal because they “drink lots of beer”, a bar worker said yesterday.
http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/latest-news/383212/Madeleine-McCann-Investigating-British-cops-are-keeping-Portugal-s-bars-in-business
We've had the Long Lunchers and the Sardine Munchers and now - yes, it's official - the British Beer Swillers. It's obvious where this piece is going. D'you see a pattern forming?
Lawton - are there no depths to which you will not sink?
I watched those guys last week - they were flogging their guts out in high temperatures and difficult terrain. And if you had ever done a proper day's work in your life, you wouldn't be taking sly digs at those who have.

The search area is between Praia da Luz and the town of Lagos
Sky video.
A new site has been cordoned off as detectives continue their investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann. Tom Parmenter reports from the scene.

Re: Digging to start NEXT WEEK!
If you click on "sky News" it shows a video of the area and the Reporter's report. I don't know how to do it .
It is only a mile or so away from the previous search, what happened to the field at the side of the Apartments , or around the Ocean Club.
Just shown, the sky Reporter shows a big sign written in Portugese in red paint "English Police are stupid"........

Morning Karen the Portugese are really p****d off with this and you can't blame them . Which makes you wonder why the Portugese Police , or whoever agreed to this search , thought it was vital , given the tourist season and the residents of PDL having to suffer all this nonsense.

Re: Digging to start NEXT WEEK!
Have just commented on that Lawton/Star article on the previous page.
That, and the 'stupid' message in spray paint tells me that the Brit police are now being castigated in the same way that the PJ were.
Is this just random opinion or an orchestrated campaign?
ETA - from Twitter, in similar vein to the above ......
Babalou @B_balou 55s
@artsmarse This is reminiscent of the "PJ boozy lunches" stories from 2007. Just more churnalism from @jerrylawton. #McCann

Re: Digging to start NEXT WEEK!
Thanks chris,
The Daiily Star has always been pro-McCann do I detect a change ??? This article is more p... taking, suggesting that the English Police Officers drinking makes up for the loss of tourist income like, Hotels, Restaurants, Gift shops etc
I read a long long time ago the Editor of the Spectator said that if ever it was proved that the McCanns were complicit in the disappearance of their daughter , the British Press would be mercilous.

Re: Digging to start NEXT WEEK!
I won't be holding my breath on a Lawton reply to that tweeter ......
I think what has happened is that the rags have discovered that there's a treatment plant near the dig, and have put two and two together and made five.
It's either a lack of research or to keep Euclides in the public mind as a prime suspect.

Ah now this puts a different complexion on things. The sprayed wall is not orchestrated spin.
(That's not letting Lawton/Star off the hook though ...)

I believe they are still being "fed" their information, albeit in a more subtle way. Any fool would consider there is more than one treatment plant and ask the obvious question.
