As Cameron takes his first faltering steps to admit that this may be the greatest peril the world has yet seen, our church leaders are rubbishing it. The bishop of Manchester wants us to offer a home to everyone who wants to come ahead of IS attacks. When the country is left with standing room only where will the good Bishop turn then?
His heart is in the right place, and I agree with him that our ill thought out policy regarding Saddam Hussein is in part responsible for the present situation, but that isn't the way. Nor can we win a battle of hearts and minds.
They (IS) are not going to stop. A global Caliphate is the aim, and Cameron is right Not that there could be trouble here, but that there eventually will be. We are part of the globe, so we are part of the objective, and the longer the west takes to act, the stronger IS will become with more radical disillusioned young people joining them.

Re: Iraq.................
This is some of the best news yet, and it must be a stinging reversal for the Terrorist IS. I wonder though if the Peshmerga can keep it up. The news reports tell us constantly that they are undermanned and compared to IS only lightly armed, whereas the IS are now bringing Tanks and armoured vehicles captured from the Iraqis into use.
There is also a real danger that since they are terrorists they may take it out of the people living in areas they still control. It seems they need little or no excuse to kill anyway. This might mean a great many more deaths. IS don't care what anyone thinks of them.
However it does show that no matter how brutal and barbaric they are. IS are not invincible.

Re: Iraq.................
They have already had several set backs in their relatively brief history and come back from them. In common with all extremists. They believe that dying while fighting infidels is a certain and sure road to Paradise. A vey powerful incentive to fighting. for them it's a win win situation. They conquer the world, and reinstate the Caliphate. or they die trying and go to Paradise.
Mohammed laid it all out for them. At least that is their interpretation of it.

Re: Iraq.................
Yes that is what sets them aside from other terrorist organisations in so far as it is their 'destiny' with lavish rewards.
However, other terrorist groups will also have members prepared to die for the cause so nothing new really.
Whilst they should never be underestimated i still feel they are a rag tag bunch of missfits most of whom would run a mile if they came face to face with a bayonet weilding storm trooper.
As for any threat to the UK they would not hold a candle to the IRA on a good day.
Yes lone 'warriors' may make random attacks and kill but that is all they will ever achieve here.

I do believe that it is far more serious than that. Boko Haram, the Taliban, al Nusra Brigade, al Queda, Hamas, Muslim Brotherhood, and now IS. Supported by extremist countries. have not vanished, merely changed form. Isolated attacks may be all they can achieve now but they are constantly trying to spread terror by killing. They are for example giving the Pakistani authorities a great deal of trouble in the tribal areas. just as they do in, Iraq, after all the lives and money it's cost. Afghanistan is in ferment, and we haven't moved out yet.
The threat or promise was made only yesterday that they intend to retake those parts of Spain that were once Muslim controlled. I don't know how much substance there is in that. Obviously it would be isolated terror tactics to begin with. The danger there being that although we (the west) say we will never deal with terrorists, in point of fact we do as Adams, McGuinness and their pals could testify in Stormont. Give the terrorists an inch of Spain back and they will immediately demand more.

Re: Iraq.................
Yes i do agree it is more serious than i may have suggested.
What people need to understand is that there are Muslims fighting amongst each other and not against the 'West'.Though no doubt some will dream of that.
These are Tribal wars,of a primitive nature all be it with the use of some modern'ish hardware the fickle Iraqi army have run from and abandoned.
Civil war amongst each other.
So where do this rag tag bunch think they will lay down their roots and build their 'State'.
A few thousand in Iraq, what say 4 or 5 thousand against what should be an Iraq army of 250000 ?
Syria maybe 5 or 10000 isis against what exactly ?
Some well trained troops on the ground would deal with this lot fairly quickly in my view.Off course eventually they would regroup again to a fashion.

Re: Iraq.................
Where do these Sunni Muslim terrorists think they are heading ?
Do they really think they will over run Iraq and then go on to obliterate the predominantly Shiite Iran ?
I dont think they have thought it through. They gather up a bunch of dysfunctional yobs with their promises of eternal life and a harem of virgins.
They get a smell of blood and a liking for killing and rape what then ? Once they over run the country are they all going to go back to work !
Dont think it will work out for them somehow.
No doubt our Government will big up the bogeymen though.

I still believe you are minimising the danger. Well trained troops. Who is going to supply them. The US will not, we can't without them, and the rest of Europe refuse to act anyway.
Yes, you're right they are fighting amongst themselves already. the al Nusra brigade is vying with IS as to who will form this Caliphate. That of course was the cause of the trouble 1400 years ago and the reason we have Sunnis and Shi'ites. When Mohammed died, the wrong one got the job as far as the section who would become known as the Shi'ites were concerned. Their man eventually got in, but was assassinated shortly afterwards.
I think they are a little more than a rag tag bunch. I only wish I didn't. IS have a leader, and he's making headway in Syria, more headway than the dozens of splinter groups managed in 4 years

Attacking America could well be the rock they perish on. As for raping Yazidi women, that seems to be the only other thing on their minds apart from killing

Well this cowardly leader of the 'Islamic State' has legged it back to his bolt hole in Syria so it seems. So presumably He aint quite ready to meet his 72 virgins in Paradise !
Not setting a very good example for his troops.

As i have said, they are not to be underestimated but they are cowards when it comes down to it faced against a greater force.
Killing and raping women and babies, undisciplined rabble, ruling by fear.
The West has nothing much to worry about from these medieval rapists.
The US and Britain and others will provide military assistance in order to scare them off and avoid further Humanitarian tragedies.
The only other thing we need to do is put the lid back on the creepy tin of cockroaches whenever they threaten to break out.
When they get a leader with some balls and realistic aims,a dose of discipline and a few Sukhoi jets, then maybe we will need to worry a bit more.

Re: Iraq.................
The Taliban are in full cry in Afghanistan, hundreds involved in the fighting. Iraqi forces have been stopped from taking Tikrit by fierce resistance from IS.
They may not be very good soldiers individually as several Arab-Israeli wars can testify, but the lure of automatic salvation is a strong one. During the Iran-Iraq war. Thousands of Iranian children each holding a key symbolic of the keys to Paradise went willingly to their deaths at the hands of Iraqi forces
I don't think you can use the word coward. Abd al Quraishi, or whatever he calls himself this week, would use the excuse that he is too valuable to lose, and without him the Caliphate would fall apart. In his case, you may be right and it's simply cowardice, but it'll pass muster to the ones doing the fighting. Their minds are not balanced remember. They couldn't be, or they couldn't do what they do.

It seems they have started in Gaza again by breaking yet another cease fire. Libya isn't to stable. The tactics will be terror of course as they always are. They will target the US as they threaten, and I have no doubt include us as the great Satan. Fighting has also flared up around Mosul dam again. I would love you to be right in that they will give the west little or no trouble, but I fear that is too dismissive.

Iran will be quite happy with this. It is taking the attention of the west away from their nuclear interests!!!
You mentioned Sukhoi jet aircraft. I wonder what happened to those the Russians gave Iraq, or the ones Iran said it would refurbish for them.
All the present upsurge in activity suggests that there will be more than a few attempted terror attacks. in certainly the immediate future. I only wish they could be so glibly reduced to hardly more than a nuisance.
