11 June, 2014 - Statement from Gerry and Kate

We are very pleased that significant activity has taken place in Praia da Luz over the last 10 days with police officers and support teams from the UK working closely with the Policia Judicial and the Guarda Nacional Republicana. We are further encouraged that, despite the intensive searches, no trace of Madeleine has been found and this reinforces our belief that she could still be alive. As parents of a missing child, we have always wanted all reasonable lines of enquiry to be followed and it is gratifying to know that a substantial amount of work will take place over the coming months with close cooperation of the British and Portuguese authorities. We would like to thank all those involved for their efforts and the members of the public who have come forward with information.

well im not sure who is more deluded the McCs or SY. does this mean that more of our hard earn tax is going to be spent indulging the McCs and the "search for Maddie".

PS - who are the Policia Judicial?  I always thought it was the Polícia Judiciária.
Have I been getting it wrong all these years?

I think we are all past crying now, this insufferable pair lack any decency or remorse, all they care for is themselves, monies, and perfecting the wool pulling over the public, and seemingly SY's eyes.

Your right and SHE is wrong.

The 'search' in these last days had no goal whatsoever other then allow them to say that as nothing has been found, more than ever there's reason to believe Madeleine is alive. IMO, of course.

Short of digging up the whole of Portugal and half of Spain I guess that was always going to be the case. I do find it a little odd that Redwood should suggest the hypothesis to be tested was that the wee girl died in the apartment and was buried locally. How did he suppose the chance abductor was going to abscond with a body and bury it nearby while PdL was awash with searchers.

And of course it proves nothing, other than if she is dead and buried, they didn't look in the right place!

Can someone p-l-e-a-s-e explain the following to me. O.K. I get it, the British dogs which were deployed at certain locations this time around didn't alert to anything "significant". I accept that. What I can't accept is why SY in their "investigation" have ignored the alerts given seven years ago by British dogs Eddie and Keela; the alerts which form part of the files.

I agree with Roasted Arizona's comment - I too hope that when the McCanns appear in Lisbon they are handcuffed and charged appropriately, long overdue.

I don't think they have ignored the original cadaver dog alerts.  I think they are widening out the cadaver dog search areas to include new areas, based on intelligence gathered.  SY do accept she is dead I am sure of that but without a body or some other forensic evidence that cannot be proven beyond doubt.  

For the McCanns to be encouraged today that the searches have not yielded anything positive is unbelievable though. As the parent of a missing child you would want something found to bring closure one way or the other.  The parents of April Jones were not encouraged when nothing was found, they were realistic about it, knowing in their heart of hearts that their daughter was dead and it must have come as a relief of sorts when some of her bones were found in the fireplace of the Defendant in his derilect looking cottage in a remote part of Wales.
