As long as they have access to oil, and to people without morals prepared to buy from them, and we know there are plenty such.They will have money. Then there are the historic artifacts they are taking away. Once again we know that thee are quite a few willing to buy them.

Money is important of course, less so to these brave and bonny fighters, who can cut the fingertips off a 12 year old for being a Christian. I couldn't do that; I'm not brave enough. From all accounts, the advent of Russian forces, and their use of some dated but still deadly hardware has put fresh heart into regime troops.
We don't hear much about the operational aspects of the "hind" gunship, but the Afghanis called them the whistling death, and I assume they are just as deadly today as they were then.

Even if by some miracle IS forces can be cleaned out tomorrow, instead of splintering into terror cells all over the globe, we still have the scenario where Putin supports Assad, and NATO and the UN in effect doesn't. That could prove "interesting" to say the least.

Barely getting a mention these days for obvious reasons is the ever growing immigrant "refugee" situation. How many of them are being used as merely expendable pawns by IS. Thousands upon thousands landing in Greece daily is putting a strain on Greek money. Not to mention the rest of Europe. Then we have the European Union bickering among themselves as to what to do about it. A step change in the demographic make up of the countries of preference can only end one way. If it is IS inspired, and there are strong reasons for believing it is, then they are carrying out their promise anent Europe. In effect we are already at war, albeit undeclared.

Ten years ago, when my son visited Beirut, he said that it was a beautiful city and that he was going to stop saying that Liverpool was like Beirut. Sad to see those images of a once beautiful city being laid to ruin like this.

The trouble being that they will immediately declare him to be a martyr. That in itself doesn't bother me, the sooner the blood soaked scum are martyred in their entirety the better for the world.

The problem comes in when other, more impressionable minds think about the cool fountains and never ending supply of virgins they are promised waiting for them, and decide to join them, or form their own terror group.

Unfortunately Anna Esse, that is all these fundamentalists seem capable of - destruction. When you think of the beautiful buildings they used to be capable of, and their standards in mathematics and astronomy. The Al Hambra being a real case in point. I would like to think you are right, but all the credible evidence suggests otherwise. More are joining than they are losing. That was the consensus only yesterday of neutral observers. It has been suggested that they have insufficient numbers prepared to die. I think the horrific events in Parisand elsewhere have shown that is not so.

Over 100 dead in Turkey in recent attacks, The Russian airliner over the Sinai, and now the multiple attacks in Paris. The resurgence of hatred against Israel, with more attacks to come. They are a potent force still, and spreading from what was once called a few miserable acres of desert.

They have to be stopped, and I believe eventually they will be, unless they manage to get a nuclear weapon, or even the material to make dirty bombs, Either way it will be a long hard and bloody episode in the history of the world. Well Badboy this is really frightening the consequences could be enormous.  None of us know if they actually were in Turkish airspace or not.  Did Turkey really need to shoot down that plane?   Was it deliberate provocation?  I doubt we will ever know the truth of the matter.  What follows this act does not bear thinking about.
