Well Badboy immediately after the incident Turkey was in touch with NATO ( according to reports) Let us see what they say about it This will be a real testing point, all members of NATO are supposed to help each other! We will have to wait and see. What a thing to happen at this particular time.

REGIME FORCES HAVE GAINED TERRORITORY FROM ISIS ADVANCING TOWARDS PALYMYRA
I have from time to time wondered About Turkeys real loyalties. From their own map today The SU 24 was crossing a narrow strip of land, and would have been clear of Turkish airspace in a matter of seconds rather than minutes. If it was ever in Turkish air space to begin with. So no threat level worth talking about.
With the exception that Russia wants to keep Assad in power, while the west do not - simply because the leaders in the west do not understand the Muslim fundamentalist mind. They all have a common aim, destroy IS. If and when they do, an even more extreme group will spring up.
I say our leaders do not understand the fundamental mind. No more compelling proof is needed than this half hearted attempt to confiscate passports, and prevent them from travelling to paradise. Why for goodness sake??
All they are doing is creating a fifth column. A fifth column that will inevitably turn to mischief. If I could be certain that our security forces would catch all plots, I would be happier. As things stand, they only have to get lucky occasionally.
Back to the downed Jet, Putin says there will be consequences, and he may very well be preparing to retaliate in some way. It will take the heat away from IS whatever it is. Again, you have to wonder where Turkeys loyalties really are.

You are completely correct fuzeta, the consequences could be enormous. I don't think we are talking WW3, but certainly some thing will happen. Especially if the Russians get the idea that it was deliberate provocation.

There are many dangerous games going on katertaif, with many players. We who are all just trying to live our lives the best we can are the ones that will suffer for their actions

The uproar in the Labour ranks regarding these possible air strikes is symptomatic of the new face of British politics today. Corbyn is fully entitled to his views and opinions on the matter, and those against are equally fully entitled to their views. Diane Abbott is more than entitled to support Corbyn. Where it all comes apart however is Ms Abbott saying that this will hand Cameron victory on a plate. That is to all intents and purposes putting party politics ahead of what is good for Britain. That is wrong and can never be right no matter what the reasoning.
There are those who say it will make Britain a more dangerous place. We will be a target for the terrorists thy say. This view ignores the simple fact that we already are a target. If it wasn't for our security forces, we would certainly have seen the same sort of carnage in the streets as we have seen in France.
Even without the magnificent efforts of our security forces, in foiling these terrorist scum, we cannot allow ourselves to cave in before the possibility that we will be attacked ourselves. That is the nature of terrorism, it feeds on fear, and cannot be allowed in any circumstances to succeed. Corbyn may reflect on that in the coming days, or doesn't he care what regime the country is ruled by, as long as they leave him alone.

Quite right Joyce, we are bombing Iraq, so why we have been (up to now at least) respecting national borders when IS regard the whole area as a caliphate is a bit of a mystery to say the least.
Anyway, Cameron has his mandate now, so we can bomb Syria with a clear conscience (tongue firmly in cheek) Just how much good it will do remains to be seen. The situation being so complicated and fluid, with in some cases terrorist gangs fighting each other. We are almost certain at some stage to be directly aiding Assad. Degrading IS is already indirectly doing that.
Given that I believe IS is among the greatest dangers we have faced in our history, perhaps the greatest. They have to be stopped, and if that means propping up Assad, so be it. We aren't going to oust him anyway with the Russians backing him. Putin has a reputation as an inflexible man once he has decided on a course of action. If the airstrikes do what they ar intended to do, it will be interesting to see the west trying to tell Assad they want him out.

Re: Syria warns West against intervention
It's definitely getting worse Badboy, sadly nothing will ever change until those who practice extremism and promote hatred are stopped. It generally isn't possible to negotiate peaceful outcomes with terrorists as they are normally small factions who are often united only to achieve dissent and commit criminal actions, also they are not representative of the feelings and beliefs of the ruling political party, nor the general population of a nation.Badboy wrote:ISIS HAVE TAKEN PART OF DEIR EZ ZOR AND TAKEN 400 CIVILIAN HOSTAGES INCLUDING ELDERLY AND CHILDREN.

The problem is malena, those small factions have become many and now they are a real force, one that threatens any hope of World peace. Many people are leaving the countries where they were born and brought up to join these terrorists and fight with them. Those that do and then when they have had enough of the hard life, come back to the comfort of their country should be tried for treason and if found guilty suffer the consequences. How else would you deal with people that betray their countrymen and join those that want to kill and maim them?
The biggest problem we have is that we are slowly but surely being brainwashed. What was totally unacceptable at one time has now become acceptable. We seem to have been trained to see only blurred lines, a shocking state of affairs and it can only end badly. JMO
