Do we know what the PJ were actually told, by UK police ? Is there a report in the files?

I read somewhere that the british police investigated Payne and found nothing untoward about him.

He was either ringing up because he was scared or he was ringing up to report someone and he chickened out

Quite so and unless there is eventually a court case which shows the real truth then we are never going to know or be proved right or wrong.

Statements saying it must be this, that or the other are pointless....all we have are our personal theories.

I suspect whatever happens a lot of people will never change their views.

of course. some people see things that aren't there and have way too much free time to look for them. then there are those that swallow the theories of the 'self appointed expert' bloggers all of whom are really best ignored as they thrive on the attention.

then there are those who consider this an accident covered up by the central players who then created a media dust storm that sent investigative officials off in any direction other that the one they should have been following and when they eventually returned to that path once the storm settled, all the evidence left they could find was indicative only and therefore insufficient to prove a case. a general lack of cooperation from those central players left the investigation with nowhere to go and with nothing more than a good idea of what likely happened.

I certainly know who I believe - Goncalo Amaral - who had to be removed from the case because he had a fair idea of what happened and was doing his job like he should have been doing, doing a job so well it seems that not everyone was happy, including Gordon Brown!

You're right. They all were/are public figures, big names, TV personalities etc. So, perhaps it's not the McCann's who are actually being protected here...
