"Appeal to raise money for Maddie cop’s legal costs gets huge cash boost
An anonymous group of Portuguese “business and legal workers” have ploughed over €11,000 (£8000) into the online appeal set up by a young single mother to raise money for beleaguered ex-Maddie cop Gonçalo Amaral. Amaral’s appeal against the €600,000 in damages awarded against him in the civil case taken out by the parents of missing Madeleine is due to be decided by Lisbon’s Appellate Court “any day now”.
The cash boost has brought the Legal Defence for Gonçalo Amaral to over €65,000 (£47,010).
Donated in the Portuguese language, the text claims to be from “an anonymous group of business and legal workers who are appalled by what has happened”.
It continues: “Portugal and Britain are old allies, but the McCanns and the British gutter press have tried to drive a wedge between us.
“We can all see what they are trying to do, freezing Dr Amaral’s assets to prevent him from defending himself, whilst using the donated millions to sue him.
“That is not justice. It is not right.
“The McCanns lost five out of the seven issues, but the British press has not reported that, nor the strong terms used by the judge against their so called ‘evidence’.
“They have to pay 60% of the costs, but the British press has not reported that” either, the text continues, stressing that “this small donation is to ensure that this act of hate and venom does not succeed”.
The donation - arriving in the legal fund in two chunks on Tuesday morning - has been widely shared on social media where a veritable avalanche of support for Amaral has accompanied him for the past eight years. But so far it has been ignored by the British mainstream media.
As to the former PJ detective’s appeal against the ruling that effectively orders him to pay the McCann’s over €600,000 in damages, that is advancing now through the Appellate Court in Lisbon.
As a friend of the former detective’s explained, “it is not a public process. There is no court date.
“At some point, the judges reach a verdict and then they communicate that verdict to all parties. There is however no deadline. It may take weeks or months until we hear anything”.

Re: Brits raise thousands for Maddie cop's libel appeal
From time to time I have a look at recent donations to the Legal Defence Fund. The most recent one (approximately 6 hours ago) is from a "Peter Mac". In his comment he mentions a "new book out in Holland naming the people who perhaps inadvertently helped to move or store the body - allegedly, obviously!" Has anyone heard about this book? It's the first I've heard about it. I have often wondered about the men who drove to Portugal (from Scotland, I think) with that big inflatable sign and returned very quickly. I'm curious if these might be the people the author refers to.

Re: Brits raise thousands for Maddie cop's libel appeal
Here's a link to the book:
http://www.boekenbestellen.nl/boek/leugens-misleiding/12782
Rough translation:
"Journalist Peter Scharrenberg studies the very extensive Portuguese police files about the missing three year old toddler Madeleine McCann. On 3rd of May 2007, she mysteriously disappeared from her bed in a Portuguese holiday village, where she was on holiday with her parents Gerry and Kate. According to them she was abducted by a paedophile burglar.
During his investigation Scharrenberg found two important witnesses in the files, who apparently were completely forgotten or missed by the police and because of this did not play a single role in the investigation. These two witnesses however, already one day after the disappearance, made very incriminating statements for Gerry McCann, the father of Madeleine. Because of this one must seriously doubt the correctness of the time line that was made by the police at the time and which has always been used as guidance in the investigation. The implications of these statements from these two 'forgotten' witnesses are enormous, as it seems to show that the father Gerry himself is the 'abductor'. Also, because of these statements, a Roman-Catholic priest and a retired English business man are shown as possible helping hands in hiding the body of the toddler. Both men have never been investigated.
In this book he describes the most important investigation results, witness statements and forensic evidence and puts these in the right context, through which, according to the author, it becomes ever clearer that the parents must have been involved in the disappearance of their daughter and that they had help."

Re: Brits raise thousands for Maddie cop's libel appeal
I wonder if the McCanns are consulting with Carter-Ruck over the latest allegations or does Mr. Amaral remain their number one target.
It was a year ago today that Martin Brunt insistently/aggressively singled out and approached Brenda Leyland; may she rest in peace knowing that Mr. Amaral is receiving support from thousands around the world in his ongoing battle to make known what the investigation revealed and the McCanns fight to silence him.

Re: Brits raise thousands for Maddie cop's libel appeal
Hi Joyce, good to hear your news and you are keeping well in general, wish you well with the back problem. Great to hear you are enjoying your family time. Not really in touch now with many from the past!
All very quiet at mo, expect it will be busy around the trial and hopefully it will be the outcome we all pray for.
total now stands at magnificent £48,375 - great comments and donations on Goncalo's birthday.

Recent donations have boosted the total to 49,020 pound - wonderful birthday gift to Mr. Amaral's Defence Fund. 50,000 seems possible now before Oct. 6th.

It seems Google have changed the way you can get through to the gofundme Goncalo Amaral page. It used to come up first when you typed that in. Now a lot of websites relevan, but not quite what you want, come up. I can always get it through another reference but it is inconvenient!

Yes I just noticed that this morning! The GA fund website was easily accessed before with simple key words, now it seems you need the exact www address or you get nothing pertaining to the GA fund.

You can access with Bing instead of Google. If you type Bing in Google, and after https://www.gofundme.com/Legal-DefencePJGA, the Gofundme site is the first on the list. Or go to Pamalam site http://www.gerrymccannsblogs.co.uk/gofundme.htm and click on the link to Gofundme at the top. It works. Merci Pamalam

They could help to strip the couple of £357,000 they hope to use to find her.
Ex-police chief Goncalo Amaral, 56, has been flooded with nearly £50,000 in public donations since he lost a libel hearing against Kate and Gerry McCann six months ago.
The GoFundMe webpage donors include trolls who have abused the McCanns online.

Three appeal court judges are expected to begin re-assessing the evidence on Wednesday.
If they find in Mr Amaral’s favour the damages award will be quashed.
A friend of the couple admitted they were “exasperated” by the appeal and the source of its funding.

Thanks to Jerry Lawton the Fund is steadily reaching 50,000 - 49,955 at the moment. If people donated more than once, does that make them a repeat troll?

Now, being the sceptical person I am, is this a ploy to stop people donating to Mr AMARALS page.

I think the answer to that is yes. So much had been raised and then Mr Lawton gave the fund some great publicity, so the McCanns had to do something!
Re: Brits raise thousands for Maddie cop's libel appeal
I hope the Mark Souster controversy, which I've been reading about elsewhere, reflecting as it does on conflicting points of view, doesn't discourage people from continuing to donate to the Defence Fund for Mr. Amaral. (I've noticed the donations have not been coming in as steadily within the past couple of days.) Why can't people who profess to want justice for Madeleine in spite of their different theories, just unite instead of attacking others with crazy pot shots.

It's crazy isn't it? It's a complete waste of time and space, viciously badmouthing each other, and it plays right into the gruesome twosome's hands.
