Daily Express report on Court Hearing 11/12/09
This report by Nick Fagge is on page 19 of the Express........what? no front page?
It is quite lengthy and since I am a two fingered typist I will just quote the interesting bits.
"The launch of the new book will take place at one of Portugal"s most prestigious Bookshops,Ler Devagar,
at 6.30pm local time today. "
Mr. Amaral, who enjoys widespread sympathy in Portugal, has said he will call high profile witnesses including
British Police Officers."
"Portugese Detectives have claimed their investigation into Madeleine"s disappearance was seriously hampered
by the publicity campaign run by the McCanns and their supporters."
"Senior Police Officers have claimed they were unable to carry out their inquiries properly because the couple were protected by a network of powerful people that included millionaires, celebrities and politicians."
Maybe this is the moment we have all been waiting for.....the British Press reporting the other side of the coin.
As if this is not enough, Sky just reported the McCanns were booed as they appeared in public.

Oh dear. Does this mean they haven't won the hearts and minds of the Portuguese people. And after all that money spent on spin doctors. Shame it doesn't seem to have worked.

Is that true? I hope so, they looked tense in the airport, but I haven't seen the report that said they were booed. That will be an excuse not to go back to Portugal again, because of hostile natives!!

Yes Fred, it is true!!! I will wait for the report to be repeated and find out where they were at the time, don"t think it was the Airport. Apparently, they travelled to Portugal yesterday, not today, maybe they were informed about Cabrita too late and had probably made appointments with their Portugese Lawyers to discuss details
before the Court appearance.

Re: Daily Express report on Court Hearing 11/12/09
The Express is getting a bit more outspoken there. The McCanns being booed and the Express mentioning that the McCanns friends in high places were said to have hampered the investigation? Let's hope there's good media coverage of the book launch now!

Re: Daily Express report on Court Hearing 11/12/09
The McCanns were booed by a small but vociferous crowd outside the Courthouse, Kate was trying to speak
but was shouted down. Martin Brunt said the reason the McCanns came to Portugal was because their Lawyer,
Isobel Duarte asked them to appear because she is aware that most of the Portugese population are anti
McCann and she needed their support.
One young Portugese guy interviewed said it was undemocratic to ban the book.

Hi Beattie, I just saw it too. You know that woman (the vocal one holding a rose)?....well was she the one who tried to hug or was it throttle KM, can't remember where , but Thentherewere4 did a thread, I think entitled 'does Kate McCann have a stalker'? . Will try to find the pic.

Loved the bit in the Sky News report when they described Mr. Amaral as "relaxed". He certainly looked it too.

It would appear that the money paid to Lift Consulting (I think that's the name), the Portuguese PR company to improve their image in Portugal has been totally wasted.
Another good investment for the fund then

Re: Daily Express report on Court Hearing 11/12/09
The McCanns can hardly have been surprised at being booed, after the things they have said in the past about Portugal and its police force. You can't trash a country and then hope to turn up there with a view to censoring that country's people. I'm glad to see some mention of the other side of the story in the Express, though knowing the lack of backbone of the British press I daresay it won't last long. Still, nice to see a glimmer of intelligence popping up once in a while.

Re: Daily Express report on Court Hearing 11/12/09
Martin B runt reported that the McCanns are on their way to PDL and may visit the Ocean Club.....he did suggest
the residents there would be even more vocal !!!!!
Next thing you know the McCanns will be demanding the Trial take place in another Country because they won"t
get a fair hearing due to the anti McCann feeling.

Gerry and Kate going to PDL if designed as a damage limitation exercise will backfire , the Residents of PDL
will be waiting for them .
BTW did anyone notice Sandra Figueras standing near the McCanns outside the Courthouse?

You are possibly right there Beattie, their next excuse is awaiting on the sidelines, "That wicked Amaral has poisoned people's minds against us."Beattie wrote:Martin B runt reported that the McCanns are on their way to PDL and may visit the Ocean Club.....he did suggest

Re: Daily Express report on Court Hearing 11/12/09
Hi Malena,
I just wonder whose hairbrained idea it was to sue Amaral for 1.2 million Euros, Gerry? Smethurst? Carter Ruck?............didn"t they stop to think how this excessive amount would alienate them from not just the
Portugese, but any fairminded person.
In view of the anti McCann feeling shown today I would think Amaral is assured of a Fair Hearing and the high
profile support the McCanns have received will quietly melt away before the Trial.

Hi Beattie,
In view of their suit against Sr Amaral for 1.2 million I think that their problem is that they are unable to empathise with other people, or work through how their great stunts will make them appear to others (usually crass and selfish). Unfortunately, they are surrounded by people who either never say no to them or share their emotional dyslexia and awful attitude.

I think already Isobel Duarte is sorry she took on this case. To have to ask the McCanns to attend the hearing
to help her out because she is too aware of the anti McCann feeling says it all.
I had a feeling the case would not go to Trial and I think the McCanns will weigh up the pros and cons and
rather than go through the indignity of being booed by the Portugese people, risk having Amaral"s Witnesses
spill the beans on things they would rather not be publicised , realise that for once they have a battle on their
hands, know that this case could drag on for months at enormous expense and decide to call it a battle lost.

Re: Daily Express report on Court Hearing 11/12/09
I thought this too, Beattie. When I saw Mr Amarals list of witnesses, I thought there's no way they'd want to take this on. Will they turn up for the next hearing in Jan, I wonder?Beattie wrote:
