Forensic DNA tests 'reveal traces of Madeleine's body on resort beach'
Traces of Madeleine McCann's body were found on a Portuguese beach weeks after she was reported missing, during tests by a former detective renowned for locating abducted children.
Forensic analysis by retired South African police superintendent Danie Krugel claimed to reveal Madeleine's body had either been temporarily buried or was still beneath the beach at Praia da Luz, the resort from where she disappeared on 3 May.
Based on a combination of Madeleine's DNA sample and GPS satellite technology, Krugel's findings were taken so seriously by Portuguese detectives that officers twice searched the beach.
Krugel, of the University of Bloemfontein, claims that his technique is able to locate a missing person anywhere in the world using only a single strand of hair. He became famous in South Africa after helping a television crew locate the whereabouts of five South African girls who went missing during the Eighties. Last July the retired detective spent four days in Praia da Luz following a request for assistance from Madeleine's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann.
'He clearly identified an area of the beach where Madeleine may have passed through or was buried,' a close friend of the McCanns said yesterday.
Krugel's report of his findings to Portuguese detectives eventually led to British officers being asked to bring in sniffer dogs to supplement the search for Madeleine. The subsequent reaction of the dogs to Kate's clothing - the so-called scent of death - led to the couple being declared formal suspects over the death of their daughter.
The results of Krugel's investigations come amid mounting concern that the Portuguese-led investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine has stalled with an increasingly exhausted core of 'half-a-dozen' CID officers awaiting potentially crucial final forensic results from laboratories in Birmingham.
Reports in the Portuguese press claim that the original team of more than 200 police who were involved in the frantic early days of the investigation has now been whittled down to a small core who have been working without holidays and are 'completely exhausted'.
The inquiry, increasingly managed by UK-based detectives, appears once again to be focusing on trying to find a missing child rather than on the role of Madeleine's parents in their daughter's disappearance.

if this is the case and Kruger thought her body was on this beach why if he was at the spot did he not dig the feckin place up. If he was so sure of his work he would have found her

I think on occasiion Psychics have been used successfully by Amaerican Police in particular. The McCanns engaged Krugel, so must have had
doubts about Madeleind being alive, so 2 yhears down the line, what makes them think she is still alive, to justify wasting the public
donations the way they have is arrogant beyond words, but no-one has challenged them on this matter.

I must admit ive seen Sally Morgan and Lisa Williams on the tv and they both come across with some very accurate information,so why then have they not picked up on Madeleine, they would be worth their weight in gold if they could solve this mystery.

Thanks carlymichelle, reading this reminded me that I posted on 3As in 2008 that US spy satellites were being used in an attempt to find the last victim of Brady and Hindley on the moors and asking, could such technology be used in Madeleine's case. No further information regarding the satellite searches has to my knowledge ever been released. Has anyone else heard of how these searches went?

Moors Murderers' last missing victim may be found using US spy satellite
Detectives have used an American spy satellite to help them find the grave of Keith Bennett, the last missing victim of the Moors Murderers Ian Brady and Myra Hindley.

A specialist Army unit has also been enlisted to scour an area of Saddleworth Moor which has been identified as the most likely location of the 12-year-old's remains.
Keith vanished in 1964 while he was on the way to visit his grandmother in Gorton in Manchester, and became one of the five victims tortured and killed by Brady and Hindley.

Remorse makes it so much easier to forgive and forgetThe pair admitted to Keith's murder in 1986, but refused to reveal where they had buried his body and, despite extensive searches, it has never been found.
Preparations for the new search, code named Operation Maida, began three years ago after police analysed photographs take by Hindley and Brady on the moors around the time of the murders.
It has long been thought that the images were a taken as a trophy to mark their crimes, and depict images of the routes they took when they brought their victims to Saddleworth.
Now, using the pictures, geological studies, computer imagery and photographs taken by a US satellite; apparently with the permission of the Pentagon, officers believe they are close to finding Keith.
They have identified a 20-yard peat ridge near Shiny Brook, a very remote area on the hills high above Oldham, as the most likely site.
Specialist sniffer dogs are said to have shown a strong reaction at the location, indicating the presence of "body vapours".
Operation Maida was conducted under the guidance of the late chief constable of Greater Manchester police, Michael Todd, who was found dead on Snowden in March this year.
A source close to Mr Todd said: "He was proud that old-fashioned detective work, combined with new investigative techniques, had given his officers.
"Nothing would give him greater pleasure than telling Winnie that her long wait to give Keith a funeral was over."
At his insistence the investigations were conducted in a very secretive manner, and not even Keith's mother Winnie Johnson was informed.
Any plans to excavate the site where the remains could be have not been disclosed. The publicity surrounding the last major dig in 1987 was blamed for marring the operation.
Brady and his former love Hindley were jailed in May 1966 for the murders of Lesley Ann Downey, 10, John Kilbride, 12, and Edward Evans, 17. In 1986 it emerged they had also killed Keith and Pauline Reade, 16.
Hindley died in prison in November 2002.

Re: Forensic DNA tests 'reveal traces of Madeleine's body on resort beach'
It would be the perfect opportunity to showcase psychic skills, sadly they cant even decide what befell Madeleine, some say she is dead others alive. I think Gerry summed it up, when he used a load of emails from so called psychics to the police just before his interview, all smoke and mirrors that make no sense and take away from the fact of the parents involvement. I dont remember reading any psychic prediction regarding Madeleine where they have said the parents were involved. Although Sylvia Browns son has predicted that someone of the fathers age and another will be charged...
"Portugal's Missing Girl: Madeleine McCann. I do not see this young girl still alive. I do see that she did cross over and she did so in advance of ever having to be in any sort of pain or injury. I do feel that they will find her buried body this year and the parents will finally be able to be put her properly to rest. I do see that she is buried in a wooded field not too far from a water source but in an area not very populated. I do see them finding her body and they will find the culprits -- because I see two men, both around her father's age -- and they'll each be sentenced to life in prison without parole".http://www.thepsychicspirit.com/predictions.html
Malena - Sadly the police have given up now http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2009/jul/01/moors-murders-keith-bennett I remember reading a long long time ago that the family of poor Keith spent every single weekend physically searching for Keith with spades in all weather. Poor Winnie she never stopped searching for her son but at least he got a memorial service.

I read the book about the moors murderers when I was a small kid, hurting kids baffled me as much then as it does now.

is an English psychic who accurately predicted that Holly and her Friend were dead. He apparently has
had other successes. It was suggested he investigate the McCann case but said he had no wish to intrude.
However , if the McCanns asked for his help he would be happy to oblige. This article was in the press not so long

I was going to suggest the same, Hollys father also had some terrible predictions that sadly came to be close to the truth, l think he also mentions the psychic in his own book.

Thanks for this vengefulangel, I didn't realise that the police had given up on the search. Yes the difference of an individual parents interpretation of 'searching for their missing children' defies the imagination.
Memorial service? There is no proof that Madeleine has come to any harm.......... K&G said so.
