Thank you for your e-petition entitled ”Order a review into the role of British police in relation to the Portuguese inquiry into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.”

Madeleine McCann went missing in Praia de Luz, Portugal, on 3 May 2007. As Madeleine went missing in Portugal, the investigation is being led by the Portuguese authorities, who retain primacy in the investigation.

The British police involvement in the investigation of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, led by Leicestershire Constabulary, continues. The Police have put considerable effort into the investigation and any new lines of enquiry will be investigated and communicated to the Portuguese authorities.

Information received in the UK that can be investigated in the UK is investigated by the Leicestershire Major Crime Team and evidence forwarded to the Portuguese in accordance with normal international protocols. Any information received in the UK that needs to be investigated abroad is forwarded to the Portuguese so that they can assess the information and either conduct inquiries in Portugal or direct other international inquiries through Interpol. Any requests for further investigation in the UK by the Portuguese will be expedited and evidence provided to them in accordance with normal international protocols.

The Government does not believe that a review into the role of British police in relation to the Portuguese inquiry into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann would serve a useful purpose.

We continue to hope that Madeleine will be found safe and well.

Does this mean we could assemble and present some of the information put together on thisforum and the 3 As and send it to the Leicestershire Police?

I don't see why not and that response does say it will be forwarded to the Portuguese police.

Actually, no, I don't think you are being pedantic. The Leicestershire police have been slow to pass on info in the past as we know: the statements about David Payne's behaviour; the request for satellite images. And probably lots more.

Why would they send anything to the Portuguese police? isn't the case shelved there? I don't think they do.

The case is shelved, but if new information is given that the Portuguese believe is important enough ,they will re-open the case .
With that in mind I would feel more confident in sending any information directly to them and let them decide, ,given the Leic's police's reputaion for withholding and delaying things in this case let alone the fact that they promote the fund!! !

Leicester Police could start by sending Madeleines medical history.

And the McCanns full financial details.

And anything else that may have 'slipped down the back of the filing cabinet' in the past 2 years.......

Count me in to, I think its time to stand tall!! if the LP are waiting for information, if the case is still been investigated then let them have as much info as we can find, as you say duplicate info can be sent also to PJ. If you want a good job doing do it yourself, looks like we are going to have to

Duh, we KNOW that the LP are supposed to pass stuff on, only they DIDN'T, that's what we bloody want investigating! Give me strength!
