First the smiths say they recognised GM by the way he held Sean NOW we hear the mcCluskeys saying that they recognise KM and is certain it was her....and also the way GM was holding Sean....

Come one....two Different people stating near enough the same thing about the way a child was carried...

The Smith Sighting

Just before 10:00pm on the night of 03 May 2007, the Smith family from Ireland pass a man carrying a child in his arms. The man averts his eyes from them to signal that he does not wish to speak.

Four months later, during which time the McCanns never sought to exploit this potentially crucial sighting, the Smith family are watching TV. They see the McCanns return to the UK and observe Gerry leave the plane and walk across the tarmac with Sean in his arms.

The father, Martin Smith, is shocked. He recognises the walking style and the way the child is being held against the shoulder. It is exactly like the man he saw on the streets of Praia da Luz, four months earlier.


From Richard McCluskey's statementAlso in his second statement, made after watching news coverage of Kate and Gerry McCann returning to Britain from Portugal, Mr McCluskey added: "Another thing which has played on my mind is the coverage of Mr McCann walking off the aeroplane holding one of his young children.

"The way he was holding the child over his left shoulder reminded me of the man carrying the child from the white van in Portugal.

"Although I could not describe the male I'd seen in Portugal because he had his back to me, it was the particular way Mr McCann held the child that made me think."

So, do you think it possible that the Smith sighting was the Ukranian too?

I can't see that TBH. Portmao (where the nursery was) is east of Alvor (where the Ukranian family live). Why would the father be walking carrying her daughter even further west than Portmao i.e. in PDL at 10pm at night.

So, do you think it possible that the Smith sighting was the Ukranian too?

No idea T4two but strikes me as a bit odd that both 'sightings' refer to the way in which Gerry carried Sean off the plane.

The girl goes to nursery in Portmao, but at the time of this incident was en-route to the Ukraine, so this has nothing, I don't think, to do with her nursery attendance. The mention of the nursery is to verify who the little girl is I think, at least that's the way it reads. It is quite possible that this is the same sighting as the Smiths saw, as there seemed to be some sort of domestic incident attached to this family, so they could have been delayed in the area for some time whilst they sorted themselves out. I don't know, it is just the way it reads to me, that a woman was running after the van which was travelling to the Ukraine and which contained her husband and daughter and that the woman was not travelling to the Ukraine because she had to stop at home in Portugal and look after a little boy.

It could be this couple lived in the area where Madeleine disappeared, although the daughter attended nursery in Portmao, I don't know because their address is not given.

It is a strange incident, given the circumstances of Madeleine disappearing, but it seems the police are content that this is a family consisting of husband, wife and two children, one of which is the daughter. It mentions the husband's boss I think as well, as travelling to the Ukraine.

Does anyone else read this the same as me?

Off course the Ukraine couple may not off said that and it may off been added to discredit the smith sighting .....or description.
