A Trogan Horse or a big white elephant?

Post  marxman on Thu 9 Feb - 15:23

Well folks, I've been stumbling about and came
across this unbelievable 'stunt' that we must all
surely remember, but it's significance may have
been overlooked or minimised. Therefore, I think
it needs further inspection.
I'm talking about the Inflatable Billboard, sent
over 2,200 miles from Scotland to PDL, lasting
13 days round trip and costing £20,000!! And
this excercise having been commissioned by the
one and only out-of-a-job John McCann!
To some, this may seem an honourable and worthy
task, but this was done shortly after Madeleine's
disappearence..... So how did John know that
Madeleine would not be found making the whole
excercise a great big white elephant?
Or, was it just a distraction? A Trogan Horse,
but instead of taking something into PDl, its
purpose maybe to take something out?
Sometimes, large and spectecular objects go
unnoticed when everyone is searching for the
smallest detail.

Yes there were others who thought it may be a mode of transport for something else.

No honestly, that's not on. There have been discussions about this before - eventhinking of ways of cooling the body during the long drive back.
Really, my feeling is that they didn't care an awful lot about Maddie when she was alive, why bother to bury her in the UK? Far too risky and both Spain and Portugal have ample opportunities that way.
Besides, the whole affair was totally misrepresented. Allegedly they weren't paid and did all this with their own money etc. etc. Not true, they were paid - quite a lot I believe.
Just a publicity stunt, I think it originated with John M. Think back to people who were selling their furniture so they could give money to the Ethiopian famine. The marketing of the Fund is the best prepared and most professional of the whole affair.
Here we have two young men, giving up their time and lots of money to help the McCanns! That would really get the money flowing into the coffers.
Imo there was some attempt to create a sort of mass hysteria - Gerry even tried to get the non existent coloboma on Google's O's . You may have met people with a superiority complex before, but nothing like this! Nothing less than the whole world would do.

sorry Tigger but whats not on?
I feel it was imperative that Madeleine's body
could not be discovered. However, the reason
for this I believe is the hub of this mystery, so
it may have been so crucial that the McCann
team may have moved 'Heaven and Earth' in
order to remove All traces of Maddie from PDL,
this included dna and cadaver.

Just way too risky. Besides, around beginning of August when the fluids were found in the car, Amaral said the body was defrosting.

That is way after the blow up poster van, which I believe was in May. The poster van may even have been before the Renault was ever hired.
So I'm pretty sure this never happened.
Have even read suggestions that a body was moved in the diplomatic bag... actually is a bag and has its own seat on an airplane, not allowed in the hold. So that's another myth.
Have even read another one that the body was hidden in Gerry's luggage around the 21st may when he saved a man's life on the plane and that was a scam to get the man and the body together in an ambulance. Which was never seen, never recorded and nobody on the plane and no paper ever found this man saved by Gerry. Only source is Gerry and imo another publicity stunt. End of May things were slacking a bit.

Just out of interest, why would anyone drive
a truck 2,200 miles with a deflated cargo only
to inflate it when you arrived at your destination?
Why not just send it by air freight? Then just
blow it up on arrival and pull it on a lorry.

I remember seeing the video of the inflatable billboard when it was set up in Portugal. At this point I was of the opinion that while the McCanns were negligent of leaving their children alone, I didn't think they were involved in Madeleine's "disappearance" because, after all, they were DOCTORS. The video showed them approaching the two men who had brought the billboard from Scotland and, while they appeared to thank them, they didn't seem 'overly' grateful considering the distance travelled and the expense involved. I remember thinking their behaviour required closer attention from that point on. That was when I started reading the U.K. press reports on line and monitoring the Mirror forum. I quickly came up to speed on all the reports and videos prior to the billboard stunt. There were times when I did wonder if Madeleine's body had been taken back to the U.K. by the billboard crew, based solely on the fact the McCanns' behaviour indicated they didn't seem to want to spend any longer around the billboard than what they had to in order to have the event recorded.

I also considered that second (I believe) visit to the U.K. when Gerry came to the rescue of the unfortunate man on the plane. That might have been an opportunity to return Madeleine's body but, since no one has ever come forward to substantiate the story, I doubt it happened.

We are left with Auntie Phil's claim that Gerry was pickpocketed by "some dirty animal" at Waterloo Station while the police have no record of the theft even though irreplaceable pictures of Madeleine were supposedly stolen.

Hi interested. This supposedhelp of a man on the plane with a heart attack/condition would be very handy for a heart consultant on the same plane to accompany him in the awaiting ambulance and not having to pass through any security checks just whizz through with his hand luggage under cover of flashing lights. Perfect.

I thought Gerald was a Cardiologist? (No, not someone who specialise in Woolly Jumpers)

Bobsy - Yes, I thought of that, but what about his departure from Portugal. How could he get through security and board a plane while bringing with him something (or someone) that was considered a 'no no'?

Imo it really, really won't work, if only because the ONLY source for this is our very own Gerald. Why bother about it when no one else had noticed this?
He did not post it the same day anyway so by the time he wrote his little heroic tale he knew that it had passed unnoticed.
The corpse would also have been a touch smelly imo. Otherwise how do you explain the cadaver odour and blood in the car. Really another blind alley.
