Im sure derogatory comments by a former Home Secretary wont help relationships, and as previously posted, perhaps the PJ arent looking for anyone else, and perhaps theyre right.

Yesterday the Met Police said the youngster could still be alive and released a new “age progression” image of the toddler, which they said showed what she would look like today at the age of nine.

They asked the Portugese Police to reopen the case saying they had identified nearly 200 new items for investigation within historic material and believed they had found new evidence.

But today police in Portugal regused the request.(refused)

"There are no new elements at the moment that would allow for the reopening of the inquiry," Pedro do Carmo, the deputy head of the criminal police department, told AFP.

It came just hours after her parents said they were ''hugely encouraged'' by the momentum in the case.

No Reason to Reopen McCann Case: Portugal

LISBON

Portuguese authorities have no new evidence that would give them cause to reopen an inquiry into the disappearance in 2007 of the British youngster Madeleine McCann, police said on Thursday.

“There are no new elements at the moment that would allow for the reopening of the inquiry,” Pedro do Carmo, the deputy head of the criminal police department, said.

His comments come a day after British police reviewing her disappearance said they believed she could still be alive five years after she went missing in Praia da Luz and urged their Portuguese counterparts to reopen their search.

Do Carmo said that a team of investigators would continue “to re-examine elements of the inquiry” in collaboration with British police but he said that such a practice was normal and did not constitute a reopening of the probe.

A British team from Scotland, which has been sifting through a wealth of material relating to the youngster, said on Wednesday they had identified 195 “investigative opportunities” that could be followed up.

They also released a computer-generated image, created by experts, of how Madeleine might look now approaching what would be her ninth birthday on May 12.

Do Carmo however said that the Portuguese police had received “no formal request for the reopening of the inquiry”.

So Portuguese Public Ministry have not actually been asked to reopen the case then.

'refused'.....what a word for the mccanns to cling to...


And we all know a few months ago that KNOWONE within the Portuguese legal system were contacted or spoke to by the British.


Redwood has lied to protect the mccanns and IF there was viable evidence we all know the mccanns would be shouting through the roof About it...

At least we know they'll be making some new appeal on the 3rd May, an excuse to bash the PJ.

I hope this is tactics by the PJ. Get them to beg for the case to be re-opened and then say we will if you come and do the reconstruction and answer the questions we asked first time around.

that is what i am thinking too . portugal will do things when they are good and ready imo . why the hell should they continue to be branded the bad guys - the mcanns and tapas crew have still got unanswered questions .
