yes probably ...but it is what made me listen when it said the father was appearing in court.....well hopefully he will not be dead.....it would be too good for him.....yes it has just said he appeared in a court at carlisle...and he lived in Barcelona....

God this is awful..could be that the mother only recently found out what the father had been doing and completely lost her mind. Was he charged with abusing his own children?

This is an appallingly sad story, I feel so sorry for the children and the rest of the families involved.

According to Sky News mother was concerned she'd lose the children.

Well, she's certainly lost them now ...permanently. The father, a Martin Smith, had been on the run with this woman for two years so presumably she knew about the charges against him (abuse and rape of a child) and was willing to help him in his attempt to escape justice.

I've just heard that the father is one of Britain's most wanted men on the BBC News.

This just gets from bad to worse.

Sometimes, this world and what goes on seems like a very bad dream.

2 more innocent victims who have not had a chance to live any kind of life.

He was wanted on charges relating to a 10-year period from 1995-2005. Perhaps he abused the child of a previous partner..According to the bbc, he is the mother's former partner, but the Mail claim they've been on the run together since 2008 so it's hard to know what to believe.

Does anyone else have the feeling that they've seen this man's face before? I definitely recognise him from somewhere..

No he didn't kill himself. I got it wrong.

News has learned that the father of the two children found dead in a
Spanish hotel room is one of Britain\'s most wanted criminals.

The
bodies of five-year-old Rebecca Smith and Daniel Smith, aged 11 months,
were discovered at the Hotel Miramar in the resort of Lloret de Mar on
the Costa Brava on Tuesday.

Mother Lianne Smith - who is being questioned in Spain over the
deaths - has confessed to suffocating the children \"with a plastic
bag\", according to Sky News sources.

Martin Smith, 45, from North Shields, was seized in Barcelona on Friday, more than two years after he failed to answer bail in the UK.

He was extradited yesterday and remanded in custody when he appeared
in court in Cumbria today charged with 13 sex offences, including rape
and child sex abuse.


The mother is now being held in Girona
Sky News crime correspondent Martin Brunt said Smith\'s extradition
may have sparked the sequence of events leading to the children\'s
deaths.

Brunt said: \"His removal back to the UK may have triggered this terrible tragedy.

\"A source in Spain has told me that Lianne Smith said to police she
was very concerned that the Spanish authorities would take the children
off her.\"

Smith was given the news last night by Cumbria police that his two
children had died and police officers described him as being distraught.

\"It is an extraordinary twist to a very tragic story,\" said Brunt.


The atmosphere at the Hotel Miramar is \'subdued\'

Initial reports had suggested there were no obvious signs of violence at the scene.

Brunt added: \"It looks as though a plastic bag was used to kill them - that is the latest information from Spanish sources.\"

The results of post-mortems are expected today or tomorrow.

A psychological evaluation is also being carried out on Ms Smith.

She went to reception shortly before 2pm Tuesday and emergency services were called. Efforts to save Rebecca and Daniel failed.

After her arrest she was taken to her hotel room by police and an
investigating judge to help them reconstruct events leading up to the
children\'s deaths.

Describing the scene outside the hotel, Sky\'s Ursula Errington said the atmosphere was \"subdued\".

She added: \"There are still two seals on the door of room 101 signed
by the director-general of the Ministry of Justice of Catalonia
stopping anyone going in.\"

A Foreign Office spokeswoman said consular staff were in contact with the police.

She said: \"We can confirm that we will be providing consular assistance to a British national.\"

I just read the mother apparently suffocated them with a plastic bag . Incredible ?
