Re: Appeal For Help To Find Missing Swindon Woman
Wilts Police say they only have one other missing woman on their lists, and she went missing a number of years ago. Of course it could always be someone from outwith the Wiltshire area I suppose.

The family of a teacher who disappeared nine years ago are waiting to discover if she was the other alleged victim of a taxi driver held over the murder of Sian O’Callaghan.

By Gordon Rayner and John Bingham 10:29PM GMT 25 Mar 2011
Linda Razzell, 41, went missing on her way to work in March 2002 in Swindon, a short drive from the nightclub where Miss O’Callaghan was last seen a week ago.
Last night police continued to question Chris Halliwell, 47, on suspicion of kidnap and two murders after he led them to the body of Miss O’Callaghan and took them to a second location where he said another body was buried.
It is understood that Miss O’Callaghan’s body was naked, but police would not say whether she had been sexually assaulted.
A search team spent yesterday digging in a ploughed field at Eastleach, Glos, where Mr Halliwell said they would find the unnamed victim.
Det Supt Steve Fulcher, leading the murder inquiry, said he believed that if there were another body, the victim would have been killed “some years ago”. However, he said: “We do not at this stage know what we are dealing with.”
Officers are understood to be unsure of the identity of the woman Mr Halliwell claims is buried in the field, but Mrs Razzell, a mother of four, is one of the few people to have gone missing in the area who has never been found.
Her estranged husband Glyn, a former bank worker, was convicted of her murder in 2003, but has always protested his innocence.
His family has campaigned for his release ever since.
His sister, Vicky George, said she was desperately waiting for news from Wiltshire Police.
“My brother has always maintained his innocence,” she said. “But we can’t get his case reviewed until there is new evidence, and the police won’t give us access to the files.”
Mrs Razzell, who worked at Swindon College, had several boyfriends after she and her husband separated in 2000.
Police spent months trying to trace a man she was seen kissing in a pub car park in the weeks before her death.
A close friend of Mrs Razzell, who declined to be named, said, “I hope it is Linda’s body, for everyone’s sake.” But Mrs Razzell’s cousin, Julie Westmore, said she had “no doubt” that the second body was someone else.
“There is only one person who murdered Linda and that is Glyn Razzell,” she said. “As far as we are concerned, the police got the right man for Linda’s murder and thankfully he is now behind bars where he belongs.”
Detectives investigating the disappearance in 2007 of Kate Prout, 57, are also understood to have been in touch with Wiltshire Police. The search for remains has been complicated by the fact that the field where the body is thought to have been buried is ploughed every year.
Mr Fulcher said it was “not a simple issue to ascertain whether there is a second body at that location”.
Swindon magistrates yesterday granted police another 24 hours to question Mr Halliwell.
It emerged yesterday that Mr Halliwell, a father of three, knew 22-year-old Miss O’Callaghan through his children and his two stepdaughters, who socialised with the personal assistant.
His green Toyota Avensis was seen on Tuesday by officers checking CCTV footage of the night Miss O’Callaghan went missing.
He is thought to have been kept under surveillance until his arrest on Thursday.
Mr Fulcher disclosed that Mr Halliwell appeared to have moved Miss O’Callaghan’s body from its original location to the spot where it was found on Thursday near the Uffington White Horse landmark.

Re: Appeal For Help To Find Missing Swindon Woman
My brother has a dark side. I’m not shocked
By ANDREW PARKER
Published: Today
THE sister of double murder suspect Chris Halliwell revealed last night: "He has always had a dark side."
Sister ... Sarah
Sarah Halliwell, 45, said the cabbie's alleged confession to the murder of clubber Sian O'Callaghan and another woman came as "no great shock".
The sister said she loathed Halliwell and told how he "did strange things showing no emotion" as they grew up together.
She added: "He has always had a dark, disturbing streak. It came to the surface when he was a little boy and may have again."
Mum-of-three Sarah spoke out as magistrates gave cops another 24 hours to quiz Halliwell.
He was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of kidnapping and murdering Sian, 22, who vanished after leaving a club in Swindon, Wilts, in the early hours of Saturday.
The father of three, 47, took cops to her body near the ancient white horse hill carving near Uffington, Oxfordshire.
Murdered ... Sian O'Callaghan
Yesterday police hunting for a second corpse brought in diggers to excavate the corner of a farm field on the Gloucestershire-Oxfordshire border.
Cops initially said the body was thought to be close to Sian's. But the field is 12 miles away.
Forensic teams continued to search Halliwell's Swindon home - and took metal detectors into the back garden.
Last night it emerged the cabbie had enough paracetamol pills on him to overdose when he was arrested.
A police source said: "He was shaking like a leaf. There were packets of tablets stuffed in almost all his pockets."

It appears Halliwell's sister has sold The Scum videos of him fishing and giving a Best Man speech. These can viewed by following the above link.

Chris Halliwell: profile of murder suspect in Sian O'Callaghan investigation

Chris Halliwell moved from job to job before settling down as a taxi driver 10 years ago.
Sian O'Callaghan Photo: PA
By John Bingham and Victoria Ward 11:19AM GMT 26 Mar 2011
Declared bankrupt last January, the 47-year-old had only been working for Five Star private hire in Swindon for a couple of weeks before he was arrested.
Not new to the taxi scene, he was known by the other local drivers for the fact that he always used to wear a suit to work.
Previously employed by United Radio Cars, he had also tried his hand at construction and window cleaning.
He married wife Lisa in July 1991 and the couple went on to have three children – two daughter and a son.
They met when he was 23 and she was just 16 and lived in the Broad Green area of Swindon with their children.
Yesterday, neighbours in Broad Green recalled a strained marriage.
"They were living together but they weren’t getting on well," said one former neighbour.
“There were problems between husband and wife, then they moved away from here and then after they moved away from here they got divorced.”
Originally a window cleaner, Mr Halliwell lived in a rented flat on the County Road in Swindon before moving into a two-up two down terrace in nearby Broad Street with his girlfriend Lisa Byrne, a shop assistant, in the late 1980s.
Her father, Tony, a builder, and Sylvia, a former bus conductor, lived opposite and the family was staunchly Catholic.
By the time they married at Holy Rood Roman Catholic Church in 1991, Mr Halliwell was working with his father-in-law as a builder.
Neighbours still remember his large transit van parked outside their house.
Dennis Sutton, who married the young couple in 1999, said he knew Lisa's family.
"I do remember the event but didn't really stay in touch with them," he said. "I knew Lisa's family better as they were Catholic.
"I am shocked about all this. You never imagine such things happen so close to home."
The couple later moved a few miles away to Ashbury Avenue, but about five years ago Mr Halliwell moved in with Heather Widdowson, who lived a few doors down.
“He moved away with his missus but then moved in with another woman up the street, she was a bit older than him,” recalled the former owner of the corner shop at Broad Street.
He proudly introduced her to his former neighbours as his "new missus".
Speaking about Mr Halliwell’s arrest, the shop owner said: “He is the last person I would have thought would have done anything like this.
“He was all right, a family man, I used to have a laugh with him, when he moved away he used to pop in.”
Yesterday, the house he shares with Mrs Widdowson, a mother of three daughters, remained cordoned off by the police as forensic teams continued to trawl through the property.
His sister Sarah, from whom he is estranged, said she hadn't spoken to him for nearly 20 years and both their parents are dead.

In one of the tabloids I picked up this morning, his sister is quoted as saying that he had a 'dark side,' that when he was a child he delighted in pulling the legs off spiders. She is also quoted as saying that there was 'an incident,' and that she hadn't spoken to him since.

Re: Appeal For Help To Find Missing Swindon Woman
Just watched a police press conference in which they said they have footage of the green taxi driving past Sian, then reversing back towards her. So they had the footage of Halliwell's car, and had Halliwell under surveillance for two days before arresting him - so when did they get the footage, then? And given the connection between Halliwell and Sian (via the various daughters etc) I can't help wondering why they didn't arrest Halliwell sooner? I'm not suggesting they could have saved Sian's life, but I don't understand why they'd be watching Halliwell if they didn't already know it was his car they'd seen on cctv, in which case, why the delay? Did that make sense?

Yes l get what you mean, he should have been arrested as soon as they got that footage. Like you l wonder what came first, the footage or having him under surveillance....?

Detective Superintendent Steve Fulcher said the team from Wiltshire Police had been told they were those of a woman abducted in Swindon between 2003 and 2005. They have yet to be formally identified. He also revealed that an examination of 22-year-old Sian's body revealed she had not been sexually assaulted.
Sian's body was formally identified by her family on Friday night.
Supt Fulcher, speaking at a press conference in Swindon, said: "This morning officers have found remains which we believe to be human at the site at Eastleach."
He also said that while the 47-year-old man being held in connection with the two murder investigations had told them when a victim was abducted, he gave no indication of an exact time and date, or her identity.
"He indicated he killed a young woman between 2003 and 2005. He could not be specific about the date but he said she had been taken from the Swindon area."
Supt Fulcher also made a public appeal for anyone "lamping or poaching" in the area around Ramsbury, near Malborough, in the early hours of Saturday last week, hours after Sian disappeared, to contact police without fear of arrest over their illegal activities.
News that the remains of a second person had been found came hours after police were granted a further extension by magistrates in Swindon to hold the man being questioned.
They have until 3.15am on Monday to question him further, before they must either charge or release him. He was arrested on Thursday after police swooped on a taxi rank at an Asda supermarket in Swindon. A green Toyota Avensis with taxi markings was also taken from the scene.
Police have been digging on Baxter's Farm, in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds 17 miles from where Sian's body was discovered, since late on Thursday.

It does sound like it, doesn't it? Not that I'm trying to make any kind of excuses for the behaviour but assuming the guy is guilty he's got to be a psychopath and the sister seems to be hinting at same. One wonders (as others here have already mentioned, I think) if he has killed more than two?

I think it could be a possibility that there are more victims.
One thing that I thought was odd was his inability to be specific about the year of his other victim, but was able to take them to the exact location. I would have thought you would have that date etched in your memory if you had commited a murder.

The following is a joint statement issued by Wiltshire Police and the Crown Prosecution Service in Wiltshire.
At 9.20pm on Saturday 26th March 2011 Christopher John Halliwell, aged 47, of Ashbury Avenue, Swindon, was charged by Wiltshire Police with the murder of Sian O’Callaghan.

Further update on the Sian O’Callaghan inquiry from Detective Superintendent Steve Fulcher:
Bones recovered from the site at Eastleach in Gloucestershire are believed to be that of a young woman with an estimated age of between 23 and 30 years.
It has been indicated to me that this young woman was taken from the Swindon area between 2003 and 2005.
The remains will now be subject of further forensic laboratory tests and a post mortem examination.
The inquiry team are liaising with the National Policing Improvement Agency’s Serious Crime Analysis Section and the national DNA database in connection with the bones recovered from Eastleach.
The police search at the site is expected to continue for the time being.
I would repeat my appeal for anyone out ‘lamping’ or poaching in the Ramsbury area at anytime from 3am on Saturday 19 March to contact the force with any information they might have about suspicious activity in the area, a green Toyota Avensis estate car or persons in the area around that time.
I would stress again that I only want information from you that is relevant to the Sian O’Callaghan inquiry. We are not interested in prosecuting anyone for lamping or poaching.
Please contact Wiltshire Police on 0845 408 7000 with any information, no matter how trivial it may seem to you. Alternatively you can contact CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111 where you can leave information anonymously if you prefer.
Whilst we will make every effort to identify the second person as soon as possible if you are concerned about someone who is missing, the charity Missing People offers a specialist support service for families and relatives of missing people and for the 250,000 people who go missing each year in the UK.
More information is available at the Missing People website www.missingpeople.org.uk/help. The charity also operates a 24 hour confidential Freephone helpline on 0500 700 700.
