By a single piece of jewellery. What an amazing coincidence. I do hope that dear Kate watches the breakfast news.

I was thinking about this case and thinking it must bring the McCann's in a sweat, but realistically even if they do find Madeleine's body, I'm not convinced they'll be able to link it to the McCanns.
Anything that is found on her, like fibres from the McCann's clothes will simply be explained away by the fact that they were her parents. Hadn't they all been 'snuggling up close together on the sofa' before she disappeared?
In my opinion the only evidence that would implicate the McCann's is if they could match fibres on the body with the Renault car.
At least it would perhaps mean that we don't have to continue listening to Kate and Gerry spouting on about how there is no evidence she has been harmed.
I think in some ways they have probably got away with a perfect crime.

Hi Roasted
But if there are only fibers from the McCann's clothing and nothing that shouldn't be there, like unidentified DNA or fibres, that must indicate that she wasn't taken/buried by any one other than the McCanns.
Forensics can identify the time of year of burial these days, they use pollens and insect stages in the grave, that could also give an indication of whether the body was buried around the time of the disappearance.

MMNnn - hear what you're saying, but lack of anybody elses DNA still doesn't point the finger at the McCann's. It could just mean that the phantom abductor didn't leave any DNA or fibres. (after all he didn't leave any at the apartment remember )
It might lead one to believe that the McCann's must have done it - but I don't think it would prove anything.
You're right about forensics establishing the time of year of burial etc. I remember seeing a very interesting programme about that, but even if they could prove that she was buried same night as she disappeared, the McCann's can just say 'well, the abductor must have killed her and buried her the same night'.
Taking this further, had forensics been taken on the Mc's footwear the night she disappeared then they may be able to link it to the pollens etc at the burial site, but I'm not convinced that the PJ were on the ball enough to do that unfortunately. Also, if they did actually bury her weeks later then they wouldn't know which footwear to investigate.
The only other thing that crossed my mind was, if the accident happened earlier in the day, and Madeleine died in her day clothes, then the ensuing panic may mean that they buried her in her daytime clothes. This would at least prove she had never been in her bedclothes that night. Unelss of course the considerate abductor got her dressed before he set off.

Is this guy a Doctor ?
She had gone to the club with her boyfriend of just three weeks, German-born Philip Kurlbaum, and two friends.
Eyewitnesses saw her arguing with Mr Kurlbaum after she danced with another man and she was last seen sitting on a stool on the edge of the dance floor at 1.10am.
Mr Kurlbaum, now 46 and married with two children, was questioned at length after her disappearance but was eliminated as a possible suspect.

Is this guy a Doctor ?
In March 2003 police swooped on a pig farm in the village of Inglesbatch five miles south of Bath and arrested two local men in their 30s.
Tragic
Officers spent two weeks sifting through mounds of pig waste before releasing the men without charge.

Dr Kurlbaum was questioned after Melanie's disappearance but was eliminated as a suspect.
Now 46 and married with two children, Dr Kurlbaum works as a GP at the Royal Crescent surgery in Cheltenham and lives at nearby Charlton Kings. Yesterday he said: "I was so very sorry to hear the news. My thoughts are with Melanie's family and friends at this difficult time."

Obviously someone with mental health problems who wanted them to believe he was a killer. Bet the real murderer breathed a sigh of relief when he was arrested.....back to brown pants again now.
