im encouraged that Andy Redwood "....explains why he believes he has the best opportunity yet to establish the facts"........Good luck to him then, sorting facts from erm you knows and the inconsistencies should be easy for a seasoned copper. I wonder if K will refer to him as a f*****g t***er under her breath whilst writing her epilogue. jimo

Five years ago this week, Madeleine McCann disappeared from a family holiday apartment in the Algarve, Portugal, and has never been found. Her parents, Kate and Gerry, are adamant that their daughter was abducted by a predator and persuaded Prime Minister David Cameron to order a review of the case by the Metropolitan Police. Here, Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood, the senior UK investigator, talks to Richard Bilton about how he is working collaboratively with Portuguese police and explains why he believes he has the best opportunity yet to establish the facts.
Thank you mossman.
Here we go!
This doesn't bode well (imho).
Thanks pennylane. We can take heart that the BBC only refer to the McCanns' being "adamant that their daughter was abducted" not stating the abduction as a fact. The BBC are generally cautious about stating something as a fact without evidence. Mind we still just have to wait and see.
As regards the Scotland Yard & PJ review I won't believe in their findings unless it is fully open and transparent and shows us (who are paying for it FGS) just WHERE and HOW they made their final decisions. Oh was that a pig flying past the window?
I agree with you gilly. If SY decide it WAS an abduction, I want to know HOW, step by step, they came to that decision. What absolute proof they have to make that claim.

Too bad..
I can't find any logical explanation for his presence on this show, at that time, for the fifth anniversary and BEFORE SY conclusions.
There is no coincidence. It was planned.
So sorry but for me, I think it's enough.. It's right under my eyes, no choice to see it.. I can't lie to myself..
If someone has ONE logical explanation for the presence of SY on BBC, PLEASE tell me..

I honestly think we should slow down and wait and see to what extent he features in the programme and what exactly he says. As I said before he may be doing nothing more than confirming what we already know, that SY are on the case and the PJ are working with them. It may be he then explains how the process works. It does not say it brings us up to date with what is happening.
I am not trying to be overly optimistic or keep my head in the sand when I say this, but really this could be just spin. And we are used to spin. BBC blowing his appearance on the show out of all proportions. In all honesty if the promo for the show said we were going to see the McCanns tell us how they feel since Madeleine was "abducted" I for one could not stomach to watch it. As it stands I suppose i will watch it, to see what happens. It is all about the viewing figures.
Obviously we could all feel better if we thought SY were not willing to say anything until the review is complete but surely that should work both ways.
Say nothing if guilty, say nothing if not guilty. By showing which way they are facing at this stage allows both sides time to interfere with the outcome. And there are two sides. Those in high places who may want to be involved in a cover up will not show their hand publically. But then for all we know there could be others in high places who actually want this resolved and neither will they show their hand publically.
It is a waiting game but that is not new to us. All good things come to those who wait.

The above sentence is exactly my problem.. How SY could be involved in that kind of spin? I can't find an answer..
But you are right, just wait and see..

I find this very worrisome......how come the Chief in charge of the Review is allowed to go on T.V. and discuss the case before the Review is finished.?
I WROTE TO HIM A LONG TIME AGO SUGGESTING AS HE REVIEWS THE CASE, TO REVIEW THE fUND AS WELL........NO REPLY.!!!!!!!
This is well out of order and he should never have consented knowing SY is already in the doghouse.

Thank you Mossman!
I was just beginning to lose the will to live - BBC must be watching us, because initially the blurb didn't give a name. Now they've changed it.
We will have to wait and think positively - they cannot possibly give any definite answer one way or the other.
Incidentally, the producer of the previous programme in 2007 resigned.

A producer quit a BBC programme about Madeleine McCann as he felt the documentary verged "on the dishonest", it was disclosed yesterday.
David Mills, who was the original producer on last week's Panorama special on the disappearance, walked out after an angry row with th programme's editor and then wrote a stinging email to the BBC, attacking it for losing its journalistic passion.
He said: "So far as I can see, investigative journalism at the BBC is over.
"The broadcast script contains nuances that suggest that the McCanns still have a case to answer. The BBC should have had the courage to state that this is simply not so."

Yes, why is it "the last hope"?
Surely if Maddie has been taken by a paedophile and there is no evidence that she has been harmed, there's always hope?
Or do they mean that it's the last hope of finding evidence that the PJ screwed up and it will give them something useful for their libel case?

Yes they are watching. Over on Jill Havern they had the site visit statistics and it showed visits from panorama, something like 340+ views. So long as they are reading and taking notes. Maybe we have written the script for them

I really don't think SY should appear on the Beeb when they are involved on an ongoing investigation. By all means when a conclusion/justice has been done!

So it's neither Mills nor the odious Jeremy Vine who's doing this programme. That is at least one good thing.

Iris, I still think Redwood should not be discussing the case on T.V. and wonder whose idea this was....my guess is CM and his contacts. If he says
just one biased statement in favour of the McCanns I will be writing to Theresa May.....Iv'e got a bad feeling about this, on the day Madeleine
disappeared 5 years ago, are we going to be treated to the usual fawning interviews or unbiased interviewing,? . Dont' be surprised if Kate gets to plug her book for sale on 10th May

Mind you, this was early days, before the rogatory interviews and how many journalists have bothered to go through the evidence released since then? I think most of them are still working with the data available at the end of 2007.
It's a bit rich though - saying that investigative journalism is dead - he obviously hadn't done his homework either.

Are they asking the question - is the scotland yard review "the last hope" of finding Madeleine. If they are, then the programme is centered around the review and they clearly have a SY investigator on it, then it all looks very bad.

Re: Panorama:Madeleine:The Last Hope...Thur 3rd May
I find the title completely baffling - perhaps all will be revealed on the night. As long as BBC East have nothing to do with the show, because they're totally biased. They told Debbie Butler 'facts can be changed' and the show about the Madeleine Foundation portrayed the members in a bad light. Top of their despicable behaviour was the 'Fala Mc' fiasco resulting in xenophobic Tony Parsons and some other paper both doing full page spreads on 'foul rat' (or words to that effect) and imo totally libelling/slandering Dr Amaral.
Despite a lot of complaints it took BBC months to post a paragraph iirc apologising for their error. F*****g Tossers!
