Any comment from 'a source close to the McCanns.'?
Re: South African researcher tells the CM what he found when he sought to know what happened to Maddie. Explosive revelations, to read in the CM
It is about another South African called Stephen Birch.
There are now many articles on the web about him.
Here is one giving more details.
"PJ Lane analyzes the Maddie case as it did hundreds
Stephen Birch, a lover of the mystery of the disappearance of Maddie, who lives in South Africa, was in Portugal with a geo-radar machine to analyze the vicinity of the Ocean Club in the Algarve, where the child disappeared in 2007.
Birch believes he has found the place where the corpse of the English girl: the neighbor's yard Robert Murat. According regard to the Morning Post , this Thursday, when Murat left the house, Birch invaded the property to go look for traces of Maddie with its geo-radar. The machine, which is also used by Portuguese police, works by the propagation of electromagnetic waves which enable locating objects in the soil. Birch changes detected 60 cm below ground. Remember that the Judicial Police (PJ) came to dig up the backyard of Murat, who was suspected in this case. PJ is considering the track without qualifying their credibility, as it did hundreds of other information that will come today . "With regard to this information as we did with all the information on a regular and continuous we were coming in the last five years and we are analyzing them," says the assistant national director, Pedro do Carmo. The process of the disappearance of Maddie was filed in July 2008, but after that the PJ has been a team at the Port to review the case and analyze new data."

Robert Murat's reaction:

Robert Murat speaks of "madness and stupidity"
Asked Thursday afternoon about the polls in your backyard, revealed in the Thursday edition of the 'Morning Post', Robert Murat found the whole situation "a foolish and stupid."
"That makes no sense," said the Briton, who came under investigation by authorities at the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
Referring to the search that the South African businessman Stephen Birch held in the backyard of his house in the village of Luz, Murat said that "it may lead to the Judicial Police, which is who should investigate, and give you all the information" .

Case reopened?

There's so much wrong with this "news" today, starting with the above. As we all know, RM was one of three suspects the authorities had in their sights.

The search done by the PJ to the property was so thorough that they found evidence of an ancient Roman village having existed where the property was built. But they somehow missed a body. Yeah, right!

A self-styled investigator has sent radar scans to police that he says show a burial site in the resort where she disappeared.
By Martin Brunt, crime correspondent
British detectives are examining an extraordinary claim that Madeleine McCann's body is buried near the holiday apartment from where she vanished.
A self-styled investigator has sent police ground radar scans he claims show a burial site.
Stephen Birch says he took the scans last week in Praia da Luz, the Portuguese holiday resort where Madeleine disappeared five years ago.
He passed them to Scotland Yard detectives who are carrying out an investigative review of the case.
They have asked him for more information to help them interpret the scan results and the "raw data" the machine collected.
He has also sent the material to Portuguese police who abandoned their search for Madeleine 15 months after she disappeared.
Mr Birch, a commercial property developer in South Africa, admits he is "obsessed" with the Madeleine mystery.
He claims to have spent £40,000 on buying the ground-penetrating scanner and being trained in its use.
He said: "All I want to do is solve the mystery and bring closure to Madeleine's family. I am convinced she lies where I have scanned.
"I've had the scans analysed and they show digging, a void and what could be human bones."
Scotland Yard said it would always consider any new potential evidence and pass it on to the Portuguese authorities.
Earlier this year the detective in charge of the review said he believed there was a chance Madeleine was still alive.
She was nearly four when she disappeared without trace from the apartment in May 2007.
Despite dozens of potential sightings around the world no credible evidence has emerged to indicate whether she is alive or dead.
Her parents Kate and Gerry McCann believe she is still alive and would not comment on Mr Birch's claims.

And then skedaddled back to South Africa. Four times in that garden without permission.
I shall agree with you both.
This 'story' has to one of the most ridiculous I have encountered for quite some time.

On a different note, Carter-Ruck are mentioned in the Daily Mirror today, on the 'Investigate' pages. Penman and Sommerlad say that Daniel Nwikpo 'trousered cash.. and libel lawyer aided him': According to the reporters, ".. if you're wondering why Tullett Brown ran for so long - almost three years - the answer is partly bacause it was protected by one of the country's biggest firms of libel lawyers who threatened to sue critics who posted online warnings about the scam." "Last year, libel lawyers Carter-Ruck told freelance journalist Tony Levene he 'personally' would be sued if he continued to warn about Tullet Brown."
As Penman and Sommerlad say, "When the Leveson inquiry by lawyers into journalists is over, can we have an inquiry into lawyers, conducted by journalists?"
I've never understood why grieving parents who've lost a child would immediately turn to one of the biggest libel firms in the country. Whatever advice they were given, they weren't celebrities needing to control media information, and somebody has to pay for these massively expensive lawyers. There's a reason why a powerful libel company was employed. The McCanns and their followers have never offered any reason for paying for this service right at the beginning of the search for Madeleine .
Apologies for posting this on the thread, but I didn't want to open up a separate one to complain about libel lawyers

Still trying to implicate Murat are they?
I was wondering - it's been awhile since I've checked in - what McCanns' publicity strategy would be while SY is looking into them, or the case.
Recently saw in a US tabloid a story on Madeleine which managed to say nothing new and nothing of value but seemed to exist so they could include the phrase "whose parents were completely exonerated in the investigation" in the text.
I thought for a while there they stopped feeding the tabloids BS stories, and might have taken on some other tact - just to keep the detectives from awakening to the fact that they've been feeding the media sightings etc all along.
It's been a while since SY were on the case... I wonder if they are "looking" for Madeleine in people's gardens or still looking thru the files?

Lets see what the press make of this since Birch has made it plain that the Murats were in the clear.
Does make one wonder how this Birch and his pal got into the garden with two guard dogs roaming round.

I really don't think there's a body in Murat's garden. For one thing, I don't know how Birch could have roamed around the garden with his machinery without being practically eaten by those two big dogs.
Re: South African researcher tells the CM what he found when he sought to know what happened to Maddie. Explosive revelations, to read in the CM
Maybe the dogs are barkers rather that attackers, Anna. I've got a Neopolitan mastiff and a great Dane, both bark if they hear someone but would lick you to death if you came in the garden. (Don't tell the local burglars tho ). He'd only need a few cheap sausages and they'd probably be his friend for life. And if Jenny is used to them barking or had left the premises, she'd be none the wiser.
IF (and I don't think she is) Madeleine is buried there, it MUST have been after Eddie had done his search imo.

I would be very shocked indeed if ANY remains were discovered in Rob Murats garden for several reasons.
a) Eddie would have alerted to human remains when he searched the garden in early August 2007 in my opinion.
b) How did he enter and search the garden without being seen by Jenny and Rob Murat ?
c) The entrance to the property has a large high solid gate IIRC therefore how did he gain access without alerting the guard dogs at least.
d) Dogs of all varieties are drawn to cadaver smells and if there was any remains in the garden whether human or animal then I find it most strange that these guard dogs didn't dig them up.
e) The PJ swarmed the garden, checked the pool, rain water cisterns etc and nothing was found.
f) No strange smells were reported coming from the garden by the PJ
g) IF a body was placed there AFTER August 07 and the guard dogs for whatever reason weren't attracted by the smell either then WHY Rob Murats garden of all places ?
Infact the more I think about this 'story', the more ridiculous it becomes.
One final point:
Why has Stephen Birch contacted SKY NEWS instead of keeping quiet, contacting the PJ/NSY and allowed then to take matters further WITHOUT alerting anyone in the process ?
