The Trustees

Missing People Limited

284 Upper Richmond Road West,

London SW14 7JE

Dear Sirs

KATE MCCANN AS AMBASSADOR IS UNACCEPATBLE TO THE BRITISH PUBLIC

It is evident from many social networking groups, blogs and other internet sources that your charity, Missing People, has attracted an enormous amount of negative publicity within the past few days which will obviously be detrimental to your charity, the work that you do, and of course future funding.

We are not going to make any comments ourselves other than that we believe that you have made a huge mistake, an error of judgement, in appointing Kate McCann as ambassador. We give our reasons below.

Despite favourable references in the media, there are millions, including a number of professionals such as criminal profilers, solicitors and other investigators that share the view of the Portuguese and British police, that Madeleine died in her parents’ apartment and that the McCanns with the help of their friends conspired to cover this up and conceal the cadaver.

The case was archived due to political interference, interference from the McCanns and their PI’s who tried to move the case out of Portugal and into Morocco, and from the media, which as we know was effectively controlled by Clarence Mitchell, ex head of the Governments media monitoring unit. In order to archive the case, all suspect status was lifted, this was not a declaration of innocence, and if the case were to be re-opened the suspect status of both Kate and Gerry McCann would be re-instated. The report that Kate and Gerry had been formally cleared is incorrect.

It is also known that the McCanns had a deal with the press whereby they would agree to pre-arranged photo shoots and offer exclusive stories.

The McCanns choice of private investigators is also very suspect and although they had no experience of finding missing children, they were able to provide a number of stories for the media, e.g many sightings of Madeleine that turned out to be false.

Many believe that these sightings were engineered by the McCanns private investigators, Metodo 3

The detectives were also of very low credibility, Kevin Halligen now in prison for fraud, Antonio Jiminez for the theft of cocaine. Metodo 3 were investigated for wire tapping and Arthur Cowley set up a bogus company, Alphaig which the McCanns spokesman and the press routinely referred to as Alpha Group Investigations, a company which does not exist but is similar in name to the established company Alpha Investigation Group.

The evidence of Madeleine’s death includes that of the Cadaver dogs, the statements of the doctors Gaspar, the interim report of Dr Almeida, numerous contradictions in the statements of the McCanns and their friends, and much more evidence which is overwhelming and more than enough to realise that Policia Judiciari were right to suspect them.

There is no evidence whatsoever to suggest that Madeleine was abducted

When we consider that Rebekah Brooks at the Leveson inquiry was accused of perjury and it was suggested that payments were made to police officers, and stories were fabricated, put that together with the fact that it was Rebekah that demanded that David Cameron put pressure on the home secretary to order a review of the case, else she would put them on the front page of the news, every day, you can clearly see that this whole thing is nothing more than a scam, unfortunately one that you appear to have fallen for.

Whilst we are not suggesting that there are any problems with your charity or its trustees, we will point out that there is now widespread speculation as to whether you have any credibility at all. Some even suggest that you receive funds purely in order to pay high salaries and that the missing people are not really missing at all, or that they are missing but you are not looking for them, in the same way that Kate McCann did not look for Madeleine.

We say this with the interest of your charity at heart, do you really want to be tarred with the same brush as Kate McCann?

From what is written above you can clearly see why you have angered so many members of the public, and bearing in mind that a charity must meet the public interest test, you really need to do something about this to correct the error that is detrimental to the future of your charity.

We are going nowhere and the campaign will continue until we get justice for this little girl, we will not tolerate the prime suspect in the case being made an ambassador to a missing peoples charity when she failed to search for her very own 3 year old daughter late on a cold night just because it was too dark, and neglected 3 toddlers for 5 nights in a row just for the sake of partying with her mates.

We therefore respectfully suggest that:

You remove any reference to the late Madeleine McCann from your missing people website and at least let the child rest, give her back her dignity.

Relieve Kate McCann of her role as ambassador

Remove any references to Kate McCann from your website

Under no circumstances involve Kate McCann in any of the charities activities

Should you fail to meet our requirements, and we are the public, we will take this further and get an investigation into your charity.

Regards

The Campaigners for truth and justice for Madeleine McCann

This has got to be one of the best letters ever written about the case. I'm sure we all agree with everything the writer has said but there could be a problem with this bit: "We therefore respectfully suggest that you remove any reference to the LATE Madeleine McCann from your missing people website and at least let the child rest, give her back her dignity." I agree with him that, more than likely Madeleine is deceased :( but unfortunately there is no proof of that. Yet. :(

Well put.

Kate is certainly notorious but there are plenty of people who would be an ambassador that don't have such a cloud hanging over them,

until kate and gerry ask the investigation be reopened and agree to reconstruct the night and answer questions properly, and put their own efforts into finding their daughter - instead of using their fund to run libel suits - they are not fitting choices to be advocates for missing people nor speak for those who miss them.

Maybe now they've gotten people's attention they will sack Kate. McCanns don't seem to realize how they come across to people - if there's a dollar in it for them, they just don't care. Missing People seems dodgy to me anyhow. Not like a proper charity.

I don't agree it is a good letter. Much of it is a matter of opinion. No matter how much the writers believe the content to be true, ascerting it as fact does not make it so. The inclusion of peripheral material like the "bogus company" which is just wrong doesn't help their credibility either.

Fern wrote:Yet another load of nonsense from Bennett and his 'mob' no doubt.

If you take the trouble to check the author on that blog, it's Peter Davis. I have never heard of him before.

Imo sending an open letter is a good idea, but I agree it's not factual in all respects. It's also too long imo. In general the reasons why KM isn't a suitable ambassador for this charity are valid.

Since I also post on JH I feel that I am included in the 'mob' you mention above. If you would take the trouble to read the files, you would find that Tony Bennett has nothing to do with the site and only posts on it from time to time. Under his own name.

A forum is for discussion and rational argument without resorting to facile insults.

Imo, even if the whole abduction and the aftermath were true, KM would still be the wrong person to be ambassador for missing people.
One of the many reasons would be that the fame-hungry public would report children missing who'd not be missing at all, simply to get the same as the McCanns: publicity and money.

I really can't understand why the pros single out Tony Bennett for particular venom - of couse it is hard to fathom anything about them - as he is hardly the only person who does not believe their saintly heroes. If, as a certain charmless supporter maintains, he is a complete nutcase, just ignore him and don't draw people's attention to him.

Anyway, moving on to the contents of Mr Davies' letter, it is generally good but the very last sentence to the effect of "do what we say or else" worries me. Leave the bully boy tactics to Team McCann please.

Goodness yes, I missed that last line. Most inappropriate. I'm even more insulted than before.
The writer should have had a look at the Charity Commission's site and the accounts. It's up to the CC to take action if they wish to do so.

@NBY

Yes, I agree - 'should you fail to meet our requirements ...' sounds like the Kray twins on an extortion racket spree.
You'd be waiting for them to 'send da boys round'.
The recipient of the letter would clearly regard that line as a threat.
And you could imagine the headlines if the tabloids got hold of it: 'Internet Trolls Threaten Charity Bosses'.

And what does this mean: 'and we are the public ...' ?
No, you're not 'the public' - you are a group of campaigners who have suddenly and mysteriously sprung out of nowhere and represented by one 'Peter Davies' who has done likewise.

Well intentioned, but poorly conceived.

I do not associate myself with the detail, but do support the broad sentiment about the ill-advised nature of appointing Kate Healy as Ambassador.

I too have reservations about aspects of the letter, but it is not true that Missing people 'may not have had a choice.'

of course they had a choice - the board of directors/trustees could have chosen Claudia Laurence's father for example, or kerry needham or sara payne. Almost anyone would be more suitable than Kate McCann.

I'm just wondering if there were bribed to accept her ie promised a substantial donation. Kate would I'm sure be willing to use her book money/Fund money to help her image with the bennett and amaral cases coming up in sept. Perhaps that is what you mean by 'may not have had a choice' - the choice was take a substantial donation which you could use for the benefit of your charity and take Kate, or lose the donation at a time when all charities are struggling to maintain their income.

People are disgusted, and many letters will reflect this emotion, some in stronger language than others. The charity won't change their minds, but it's certainly worth the effort and time people have put into making their views known.

Most likely it's the number of complaints the charity receives that will have the most impact and cause the most embarrassment, rather than the actual content which will vary in length and outrage according to how angry the author is. But all complaints will contain some similar points.

It is indeed probable that the charity received a substantial donation which was sufficient to persuade them to make such an ill-considered appointment, but I believe that in the long term it will have a noticeably detrimental effect on donations anyway. Should the team make maximum use of the appointment as a publicity tool, as I think they will, the long term damage to the charity could in fact be terminal. IMO initiatives such as open letters on the Internet and the like only serve to harden the position of the other side. On the other hand, if hardening the position of the people they are addressed to accelerates or increases the damage done, this initiative could still have a positive effect. Personally though, I do not wish to be associated with this kind of action.

In that case, we should make sure to have a close look at the accounts next year when they are due. It may reveal equal extra income and expenses due to new appointments?

Sad but not surprising to see someone hasnt done their research properly and another cheap shot
aimed at Tony Bennett. Tony and the 'mob' referred to are owed an apology!

I think what comes across from the letter is the sheer anger that people have about what has
happened, and the disbelief that a 'charity' could act in this manner.

I think there is no doubt that this has effected the Missing people charity in the sense of the public outrage against them and no doubt that there will be many of the public who have supported the charity in the past who will no longer do so.

I think also there may be some who will be taking a hard look at this charity - it has been made public about PACT and how Lady Meyer taking most of the money for an exorbitant salary. I think now Missing People will be in for a lot of scrutiny to see what is going on here.

However, I dont have any doubt that the government will be providing grants to the charity - so most definitely their accounts need to be looked at very carefully and see exactly where there money is coming from in the future. I also find it rather odd that people in the media who have come out and been vocal about their support of the Mccanns appear to be involved in either PACT or Missing People.
