Re: Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe - Announcement 2pm today (4th July 2013)
I find it unbelievable that someone who is so clearly biased towards the parents raising funds for the search for Madeleine, should be in charge of an investigation into her disappearance. Impartial, I don't think so.
I agree AnnaEsse, load of nothing, just wanted to make a big do about nothing. What has he said publiclythat hasn't been said by anyone else in this investigation, except the Chief Constable of Leicestershire. didn't Sir BHH say at one point there would be no budget restrictions on this investigation. makes you wonder why they want their names in the media on this.

I like this from the DM site:
Parents Gerry and Kate McCann along with their travelling friends known as the 'Tapas Nine' are not suspects

I completely agree with what you say. However from SY point of view the more they say, the more questions are asked and more speculation. If they state they think she is dead then they have to say why and how. By stating she may be alive, it avoids other questions. The same as stating the the Tapas are not amongst the 38 persons of interest, it ends that discussion. If they stated they wish to speak to them again, all hell would break loose, press speculation, more questions and the media circus from the PDL days starts again.
Lets wait and see.

38 suspects. Talk about trying to hit a barn door with a shotgun - they can't all be guilty and quite possibly none of them are

Cadaver dogs are not infallible, they make mistakes, which is why a dog alert has to be confirmed with corroborating evidence.

They are not suspects, they are persons of interest. People who the police would like to interview as potential witnesses.

Not according to the Guardian http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk-news/2013/jul/04/madeleine-mccann-police-target-38-suspects
and Independent http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/madeleine-mccann-investigation-38-potential-suspects-identified-8688170.html

If the dogs only alerted to certain persons that would be enough for an honest investigation which this is not. The directive from the beginning was not to touch the parents and I am sure that those doing this investigation know very well that the parents are involved. Well, as for me, I am off and I will read not one more line or article or comment about this case any more. Too much for me to see people getting away with a crime when they use PR and connections. I will go off to have a cry against this injustice for Madeleine. I should have seen this coming but I can always hope that when we least expect it that the truth will come out.

Yes, you're absolutely right Jassi, there are 38 suspects according to the Guardian. I can understand 38 potential witnesses that the police wish to interview; but 38 suspects?

Carolina, I can understand how you feel but I won't be giving up my interest in the case.
I just hope that I live long enough to see it being settled properly but I fear that none of us will!

It's not over until the fat lady sings Carolina. I believe there will be a resolution to this case. Not necessarily the outcome that will please everyone but, hopefully, the truth of what really happened to Madeleine McCann.

Persons of interest quite often turn into suspects.
Person of Interest Law & Legal Definition
Unlike "suspect" and "material witness," "person of interest" has no legal definition, but generally refers to someone law enforcement authorities would like to speak with or investigate further in connection with a crime. It may be used, rather than calling the person a suspect, when they don't want their prime suspect to know they're watching him closely. Critics complain that the term has become a method for law enforcement officers to draw attention to individuals without formally accusing them.
There is concern among critics that innocent people will be tainted by being labelled a person of interest.
The use of the term increased in popularity in 1996, after investigators and reporters named Atlanta security guard Richard Jewell as potentially responsible for the Olympic Park bombing. He was later cleared and won at least hundreds of thousands of dollars in settlements due to his claim that his reputation was forever ruined.

There can be no outcome to this case that can please anybody. Despite her parents protests that there is no proof she has been harmed, the fact is she has been harmed. She was harmed the moment she was left alone in the dark in a strange place. If the truth is uncovered it will be justice for a little girl but the truth cannot and will not be pleasing in any way shape or form.

thats just it mossman - for there to be a remote chance of abduction - the mcanns have to put their hands up and the tapas and say they lied - about jemmied shutters the checks they made - infact they will have to say they lied about a lot of things - questions will be asked forever - bring out dead pedo - but what did eddie and keela know - unanswered questions forever - they will take the answerers to their graves

The Guardian article says that the Taps 9 are not amongst the 38, which is being interpreted as being ruled out.

does anyone else think this is in response to the huge outcry there has been of late into why so much is being spent and concentrated on one child who disappeared in Portugal and not in the UK?

Re: Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe - Announcement 2pm today (4th July 2013)
If the Mets very OWN specialist dogs alerted/indicated in a house in this country, UK, where they suspected a crime had been commited, would they totally IGNORE what their own dogs were alerting to as totally unreliable?
If they did that shouldn't they have the all specialist dog teams, they have, disbanded to save taxpayers money?
