You don't need to wonder what their spokesman will say, I can tell you....

Kate and Gerry are very encouraged at this news. They see it as very encouraging. They are hopeful that Maddie can still be found alive, as there is NO EVIDENCE that she is dead, and there is absolutely NO EVIDENCE that we were involved in any way.

They can't say any more because it is an ongoing investigation....

The McCanns will be "delighted" as always I'm sure!

Sky says 'a number of issues they want to clarify' - doesn't suggest new evidence to me but going over stuff that's been done before.  So yes l think someone's grassed.

As the case is officially re-opened, under Portuguese jurisdiction, then the PJ can arguido ALL of the people they want.

That could be ALL of the T9 and Mr Wilkins.

But NOT Mr Murat. imo.

Arguido/Aguida are NOT 'suspects' but rather "persons of interest."

My feelings too. It's going to be swept up for good, McCanns no longer under suspicion and we'll all live happily ever after without every finding out the truth.

hi penny, I'm not 100% positive myself but I'm hoping against hope that this will at last bring some to justice for Madeleine. Hope is all we have.
I can't bear this limbo so at least its a step forward, hopefully.

Portuguese police have reopened their inquiry into the disappearance of British girl Madeleine McCann, the public prosecutor's office has said.

Madeleine, from Leicestershire, was three when she disappeared from Praia da Luz in the Algarve in May 2007.

A statement from the office of Portugal's attorney-general said "new elements of evidence" justified the "continuation of the investigation".

The Portuguese authorities shelved their investigation in 2008.

Scotland Yard began a review of the case in May 2011 - codenamed Operation Grange - and opened a formal investigation in July this year.

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said the Portuguese decision followed the "discovery of new lines of inquiry as a result of an internal review of the original investigation by the Portuguese Policia Judiciaria".

The Met said the Portuguese investigation would run in parallel with its own operation.

Scotland Yard said Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley and Det Ch Insp Andy Redwood attended a meeting with senior Portuguese officers on 17 October in Lisbon for a briefing on the new lines of enquiry which they say "are separate" to the lines of inquiry being followed by the Met.

At the end of the meeting the group were joined by Madeleine's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, who were also briefed on the plans to apply to reopen the investigation.

Yep, I feel like there might be a fight brewing too.  As we all know, Scotland Yard did a real bodge job of its CW timelines and reconstruction.  So there isn't really much chance of the two investigations merging, unless Portugal is willing to lay down like a whupped puppy which I have trouble accepting.  So are there now 3 teams working on the Maddie case?  That would be absurd if so.

The spin is going to be mighty confusing, ascertaining which "Team" is doing what. Our chickenshit media is going to be a nightmare now.   Portugal by all accounts doesn't report what its investigating, and rightly so.  

It really does seem like too much to hope for that justice is being done at last.  I'm dizzy by it all.
