Portugal's attorney-general said "new elements of evidence" justified the "continuation of the investigation", which was shelved by police in 2008.

Continuation along the original lines? I don't see anything anywhere about it being re-opened on the premise of it being an abduction.

From everything that was exposed from the AUTOS, we conclude that:

G) NEW INTERROGATION OF THE ARGUIDOS KATE AND GERRY MCCANN;
H) Evaluation of the measure of restraint to be applied in this case;

On the course of the house search to the residence of the McCann, a manuscript was found, a sort of diary, already photocopied, possibly authored by Kate McCann, and admitting that the same may contain elements that may help to reach the material truth of the facts, WE PROPOSE THAT:

I) The photocopies of such document to be presented to the M.Mo Judge regarding its apprehension, if legal, translation and eventual recovery of elements to bring into the 'Autos' for future investigation.

Well, they have had six and one-half years experience making things up.

Between PJ secrecy of justice and the spin machine I am willing to discount most of what I see until the case is opened and done. Otherwise all you'll see is gypsies being raided to have their kids taken off them, a red herring if ever there was one, and notices of how much McCanns want them to reopen the case provided they themselves don't have to do a reconstruction of course and the focus is on finding this abductor.

The guy looked so much like Gerry but perhaps was one of the "blond" men lurking around the resort.

Yep, I feel like there might be a fight brewing too.  As we all know, Scotland Yard did a real bodge job of its CW timelines and reconstruction.  So there isn't really much chance of the two investigations merging, unless Portugal is willing to lay down like a whupped puppy which I have trouble accepting.  So are there now 3 teams working on the Maddie case?  That would be absurd if so.

The spin is going to be mighty confusing, ascertaining which "Team" is doing what. Our chickenshit media is going to be a nightmare now.   Portugal by all accounts doesn't report what its investigating, and rightly so.  

It really does seem like too much to hope for that justice is being done at last.  I'm dizzy by it all.

 
Ah but , the Portugese did not at that meeting open the case, they have only opened it at the request of the Oporto team you know the maxim , don't believe everything you read in the Papers. The McCanns will be expected to do their bit , like why they lied about the timelines and did not phone the Police until 10.40pm

Martin Brunt has just been talking and said the Oporto team will be following their own lines of enquiry, SY will be sending Officers back to Portugal to liase but they are conducting their own lines of enquiry I was very surprised that the MCanns attended a meeting last week with the top brass of Portugese Police so it seems as though abbduction is the theory of both parties. he McCanns have not been interviewed but are said to be very pleased with the news.

A spokesman for the McCanns reportedly said the change of heart may be partly due to publicity surrounding the case after the fresh appeal - and the recent discovery of an allegedly abducted blonde girl, known as Maria, who was found living with a Roma family in Greece

In other words, all our publicity really has paid off - we just need more "sightings"

I rather think the change of heart is not due to publicity but to Sy claiming they have new info in a case the PJ owns.

I hope this is not a competitive situation but a cooperative one at least to some degree. They could work better pooling resources or at least sharing info. Secrecy doesn't mean between police forces I think it is just the public who isn't meant to have everything being done in the papers

Like what? At this point human remains would be the job of the medical examiner, there would be nothing there they could identify.

I think they are keeping them in the loop, perhaps so that they understand this is NOT a job for Clarence to be standing on the steps of the police station waving an efit of an innocent tourist taking his kid home, or a job for whatever Haligen or Metodo McCanns may have doing their own thing. I think this is a "we're doing this, you be quiet" kind of message.

Trying to be positive, but perhaps Redwoods revelation that the timelines are all wrong gives the Portuguese an excuse to reinterview the T9 (Tanner and Oldfield in particular) with regard to their discrepancies. The T9 can hardly refuse, as this is the "one best chance to find Maddie." Interesting times ahead.

I sincerely hope that is the case Widowan, but why the trip to Portugal with the AC and DCI, surely they could have done that in the UK.  I would be surprised if it was to tell them to keep schtum though because not a month or so ago Redwood asked for media restraint and look what we got.  The McCs would find a way of getting stuff into the media like they did before with their family if they wanted to.  Although from what I now gather there is the SY/ Portimeo investigation and another one that is being run separately by the PJ, or maybe im just confused.

they brought them to keep them in the loop in daughter's case

and/or to silence them and keep them from interfering this time, with a strict warning ( I hope in any case they'll get that)

they brought them to identify physical evidence or review photos etc to see if THEY know any of these people, what with Gerry so sociable he might have seen/spoken to fellows at the tennis courts or playground

they brought them to interview them, as a team, about their previous testimony and actions that night - a poor way to gain their cooperation but possibly the only way to get them there

they brought them to gain their cooperation in reviewing the recollection of the checks, etc which they refused to cooperate with the PJ initially, they can hardly do so now stating that the SY will also be trying to "fit them up"

A Portugese Journalist has just been interviewed and said in the beginning there were 100 Policemen involved in the search for Madeleine , now there are 4 more specialised Officers . Probably they and SY trying to get at  'what's not in the released files' information so they can prepare an 'innocent explanation' for 'descrepancies '
