What if it's true speculation? Why should they intervene to plead mercy for his family when the family may have been involved, for all anyone knows?

To declare that his family is innocent of involvement would be interpreted that McCanns know they did NOT have anything to do with it.

The same was said when they spoke up for Murat, saying that he was being targeted just as they had been, let's not rush to judgment - everyone jumped on that "oh they must know he didn't do it and how do they know that if they didn't know what really happened?"

They aren't dumb enough to make that mistake twice. Not now, anything they say will be scrutinized.

I think Murat was the last suspect they did speak up for - there have been plenty of others whose lives were disrupted with no comment from McCanns. Their best bet lies in silence as everything they say can and will be held against them in the court of public opinion -- and in a court of law if it comes to that.

I am not asking them to declare anybody innocent.. I simply believe they, rather than not commenting, could make a decent humane gesture to this mans widow and ask that the press refrain from printing unnecessary speculation about him.

Murat is alive and well and in a position to speak up for himself, indeed seek damages through the courts. This man is not.

The McCanns have never been shy is stating what they want to state and asking for what they want when it suits them.

Right now it suits them to have this man a prime suspect, splashed over the worlds press. It takes the heat off them.

So they should speak up and ask for these stories to stop, but of course they never will. They will look after themselves and will never give a second thought to who they destroy in the process. The list gets longer every day.

I think we will never see them speak for anyone but themselves.

In an interview where they control the questions and none of those permitted will be "How do you like being responsible for so many innocent people being harassed and accused and having their children taken from them because you suggested everyone look for people who looked like your efit of an innocent tourist, or for children who looked like (per Kate's book ) they "didn't belong" with the adults they were with" (ie blond child with |Roma parents in Dublin).

Oh the only important thing is that everyone look for Madeleine whatever heart ache is causes. Them.

This is what I can"t stand about the McCanns! Everything is all about them and their "feelings", nothing to do with Madeleine or anyone else for that matter. They will trample anyone to the ground if it serves their purposes. They are two of the most selfish, narcissistic people I have ever heard of in my entire life. They really don't care about anyone else at all! Ifeel very sorry for the twins and anyone who crosses their path. They have left a path of destruction in their wake after their hedonistic, neglectful holiday in the Algarve.

I thought the clips of them chosen for Crime Watch with that simpering interviewer were badly done. They miss her primarily on family occasions, like her birthday of course. Really? Your heart is not breaking for her every single day?

I wonder about the terror of those Roma children seized from their own parents - they could suffer PTSD from that without a doubt. McCanns didn't ask for that to happen but they did ask for people to be on the look out for kids who don't look like their parents; what did they think would be the result of that? It's like living in a police state with your neighbors spying on you and calling the gestapo.

Meanwhile they had efits of the abductor or what SY thinks are efits of the abductor, all along, and refused to put those out there.

that's why they changed their response on the German programme, to miss her eveyr day. reckon that creep of a mate of theirs was looking in here and made a note for them.

well it just goes to show Maddie is not at the forefront of their thoughts.
