Yes, it was changed, and rightly so.  The artist only spray-painted what a lot of people are thinking.
The papers probably worked out that they can't be sued by the McCanns for simply translating what somebody else sprayed on a wall.
And it hasn't cost the Maddie fund £100k neither.

"waiting" to be found"?

"FOUND"? By whom, exactly?

Certainly not by her distraught, depressed parents!

When did THEY last 'actually' search for her?

Remember this on OFM?

"Happy 11th Birthday, Madeleine!"

"We love you and we're waiting for you and we're never going to give up."

Hmmmm, LOTS of "waiting" but NOT much 'ACTUAL searching' by her OWN parents, or her family members, or any of their adult 'friends' (T7) who were on holiday with her, is there?

In a statement released through their spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, Mr and Mrs McCann said: "We are very pleased that significant activity has taken place in Praia da Luz over the last 10 days with police officers and support teams from the UK working closely with the Policia Judiciaria and the Guarda Nacional Republicana.
Map of the scrubland search area, Praia da Luz, Portugal

"We are further encouraged that despite the intensive searches, no trace of Madeleine has been found and this reinforces our belief that she could still be alive.

"As parents of a missing child, we have always wanted all reasonable lines of inquiry to be followed and it is gratifying to know that a substantial amount of work will take place over the coming months with the close co-operation of the British and Portuguese authorities.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-27813554

Amazing how cool these parents and their spokesman are with their 'over the coming months'. I would have thought they'd be living one day at a time, given their child is still missing, not thinking in terms of 'months'. There again, Gerry was already planning 100 days ahead within hours of Madeleine's 'abduction'.

Maddie resort in danger of becoming ghoulish attraction as Police come up empty handed

● Crime WorldBy Donal MacIntyre

New search for Maddie has turned up no clues and now resort in danger of becoming ghoulish attraction.



Praia da Luz is at risk of becoming a ghoulish horror attraction as tourists flock to the search sites where UK Police are ending their investigations into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

The resort which initially suffered as a result of the association with the crime is having a bumper season with journalists and Police hoovering up any spare capacity at the height of summer, to such an extent that some businessmen are saying that the Police presence is nearly a tourist attraction.

Local businessmen have joked that tourists are following Police around the resort taking photographs and filming the investigators going about their work but all are wishing that the investigation gets some clue to what happened to Maddie seven years ago.

The Met have admitted that they have made no progress but say that the work at excluding certain lines of enquiry helps focus the other phases of the investigation.

This failure has encouraged the McCann’s. As the Police failed to find a body the McCann’s take hope that as unlikely as it may be, Maddie may just still be alive.

“We are further encouraged that despite the intensive searches , no trace of Madeleine has been found and this reinforces our belief that she could still be alive”, the parents said in a statement today

The McCann’s thanks all those who assisted in the re-investigation as the Metropolitan Police said that their work here is exactly what they would do if it was a missing child in the UK.

This is not the case, inspite of what the Police say.

Without any direct new lead, no cold case would get even a fraction of the resources which this case has got.

It is an unprecedented case though, which has generated extraordinary interest around the world, but the relatives of the 461 children recorded as missing in the London area alone may complain about the huge allocation of resources to this one case.

The McCann’s like most parents are just thankful for the continued search for their child and all the resources dedicated to it and who can blame them"

Unquote.

Well, there's no denying they've excluded the 'certain lines' which were the most promising back in 2007 and are just promising today...

Well, don't agree with this at all. Yes parents of a child missing in the same circumstances as Madeleine would and should expect the same treatment if ever anything like this happens in the future, but it must be remembered that when quoting figures like 461, that is the number of recorded missing children, yes agreed. However, It does not tell you the proportion of the 461 who are found after a couple of hours or days, the proportion that are down to marriage breakdown where one of the parents will run away with the children, the proportion that want to leave home of their own accord because of family issues. The list goes on. But how many of this 461 are missing in mysterious circumstances, gone into thin air never to be seen again? I can only think of Ben Needham and a couple of other historical cases, but we are talking about London here, 461 missing children in London area alone it says.

And because this is such a rare and unusual case, almost unheard of, that is why this investigation has cost more. This could possibly be the crime of the century. And if there are any more children in the London alone in that figure of 461 who are missing in similar circumstances to Madeleine, well I for one have certainly not heard about it.

The investigation of the last two weeks, if it can be called an investigation, was surreal.

by Carlos Anjos, president of the Committee for the protection of crime victims, former president of PJ Union

If there were doubts about the PJ investigation, lo and behold, the English police conferred legitimacy to it.

The investigation that we have witnessed in the last two weeks, if it can be called investigation, was at best, surreal. While watching Andy Redwood, I've missed Gonçalo Amaral.

The English police had no idea what they were doing, in addition to spending money - in two years they have already spent over €8 million, the operating budget of the PJ in one year.

In two weeks, they told us that Maddie was abducted by an abuser who used to lay down in a bed with minors. And the girl woke up, was killed and buried.

Then there were three Portuguese, but could have been six, that were committing burglaries. Maddie woke up, was killed and buried.

Then, at the searches, they found two cannabis plants and look: Maddie was killed by drug traffickers who were robbing her house.

Objective fact: the English have no doubt that there was a robbery.

Problem: there was no break-in, the doors were locked and nothing was stolen.

So how did they get in? Another mystery.

And then they went, as they came, after that dismal spectacle.

They do not sound cool in my opnion. they sound worried.

I think everything changes for them, not in a good way, if a body or if proof of the existence of a body is found.

No more money for the fund, and the attention then will be on the crime not the girl. Then events like the '48' questions not answered, the dogs and Amaral will become more significant again.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-27813554

So the official SY policed statement: At this time no evidence relating to Madeleine McCann has been identified has been spun into "no trace of Madeleine has been found" plus the McCanns want us to believe they've always wanted 'reasonable' lines of enquiry (including, we assume the one referred to in the official press statement, that Madeleine was killed and buried locally) to be followed. Just like the McCanns were made suspects because the McCanns fully expected, nay welcomed, the opportunity to be investigated as this is only right and proper.

So the police looked into the possibility that Madeleine had been killed and buried locally because the McCanns wanted them to, and found absolutely no evidence of this whatsoever.

Oh dear. They're very nervous aren't they?

I think they are in less hurry to come up with a deceased child.

Yes, I agree. They seem to be trying hard to talk only about her being alive somewhere. Maybe this means that the police are looking in the right areas? Because if they find evidence I believe this will cause the McCanns to become suspects again.

LJC...

Gerry McCann interview
Yesterday, after the daily routine, MADELEINE and the twins were put to bed in their respective beds, and he stresses put to bed, at 7.30 pm. The deponent and his wife remained in the apartment to relax and drink a glass of wine until 8.30 pm. After checking the children, the deponent and his wife and the adults went to the "Tapas" restaurant, around 50 metres away, where they had dinner together. As usual, every half hour and considering that the restaurant was close to the apartment, the deponent or his wife went to check if the children were ok. Thus, at 9.05 pm, the deponent entered the club, USING HIS KEY, the door being locked, and went to the children's bedroom and noted that the twins and Madeleine were in perfect condition.

At 10pm, his wife Kate went to check on the children. She went into the apartment through the door USING HER KEY and saw right away that the children’s bedroom door was completely open, the window was also open, the shutters raised and the curtains drawn open. The side door that opens into the living room, which as said earlier, was never locked, was closed.
