The release of those 49 hostages presumably means that some sort of accord has been reached with Turkey. Not necessarily in money or any form of aid. Perhaps nothing more than a "if you don't hit me I won't hit you" type of scenario.
Certainly although Turkey is a member of NATO and has the second largest army in the pact. they have been very reticent about using any of it's resources in taking on IS. Turkey must also take into account that the Kurds want their own homeland as well.
They have even limited access to Incirlik air base, which would greatly help the air strikes, especially now France has joined in. This may be the IS way of saying thanks. The danger being that little by little, Turkey may be drawn into the IS sphere of influence. Out of a population of 70 million, I imagine there are many who see IS as the best bet. Then there is Turkey's application to join the EU. It could turn out to be a fine old melting pot.

I REMEMBER READING YESTERDAY THAT A BANKER DISGUSTED AT THE UNFAIRNESS OF SOCIETY HAS DECEIDED TO JOIN ISIS.

The Turks will not be pleased at that. Given that the Kurds have been agitating for their own homeland for some considerable time, there may be quite a large degree of hidden agenda. It does seem quite a large number, initially that is.

There could be no clearer way of showing the world how terrified these people are of an enemy that has already promised to kill them all. While we stand by, and Cameron dithers about the West Lothian Question. For once, I am almost (not quite but almost) in agreement with Blair. The sooner the world, and that includes Islamic countries realise they are facing an implacable enemy the better.
ISIS/ISIL/IS, or whatever they choose to call themselves this week, are obviously not going to go away. The longer the West leaves it with nothing off (and nothing on either) the table. The stronger they get. We and the US were more than happy to supply arms to the Mujahideen when the Red Army occupied Afghanistan. To me, the parallel is almost exact. We should be arming the Kurds in exactly the same way.
They have proven they can fight, but must have something to fight with. In this case their fight today will inevitably become our fight tomorrow.

I understand the number of refugees is now more than 130,000. Obviously extremely desperate people to have to run away from their homes like this. Now that the US has decided to launch full waves of air strikes including Tomahawk cruise missiles, there may be a lot more disruption for IS. They will for a change find themselves on the receiving end of a weapon they have no defence against and cannot respond to.
I'm not sure how much substance there is in those Arab states offering a US led coalition, beyond providing bases. It's at least a step in the right direction. Time will tell, especially now that France and even Australia have pledged help, while Cameron, Milliband, and Clegg, lay on another couple of meetings of COBRA. (that'll scare IS)
I wonder if the IDF shooting down that Syrian MiG was just a distraction, or part of the whole situation. Assad doesn't want this by any means, but what can he do? Certainly the pilot must have known he was in Israeli controlled air space, and that his aircraft was no match for the IDF

Re: Syria warns West against intervention
Absolutely Badboy, the "my brother right or wrong" syndrome. Just looking at the amount of sympathy and aid Hamas got. Everyone apparently ignoring that if they hadn't started launching rockets, and digging those damned tunnels, Israel would never have attacked. Also totally ignored beyond the bare bones of reporting it was, and still is, the amount of aid being given by Israel itself in the reconstruction efforts, hardly the actions of an implacable and merciless enemy..
So yes, forcing Israel into hostilities could be a winner for them.
I see that while the Western leaders (most of them at least) are still dithering over what to do about it they are at least coming round to the idea that the longer we vacillate and the stronger they grow the more likely attacks in the West become. Very possibly "Manchurian Candidate" style sleepers. They are now at least able to plot their atrocities , not only in the open, but with the support of the state.
Of course we cannot allow this to decide our movements, we must at least publicly carry on as normal. After all, anywhere can be a target. At the least we should be aware that the government hasn't raised the threat level for nothing.

YES BADBOY, It was on the news briefly . I have been watching AlJezzeera , there is hardly any Country in the Middle East that is not at War, it really is depressing and if Obama and Blair have any sense they will not send any troops to Iraq, they will not succeed. I hope the British go on a march if they do decide and remind Cameron of Afghanistan, Libya and Iraq , so many young Soldiers died and for what????

Good afternoon Badboy.
The Tel Abyed field is supposedly adding $3 million a day to the IS coffers. This not only enables them to arm and train more terrorists but to pay the ones they have. It will also enable them to fund the planning of atrocities here in the West. That in itself is a form of pollution. Remember to these barbaric religious fruitcakes we are all legitimate targets.
Yes there will be pollution of a more conventional kind but what is the alternative? Cutting off their money is almost as good as defeating them in open battle except that they would refuse to fight in open battle. They will now have to repair the damage, thus cutting down on pollution,, and diverting resources. In any case who are the people buying this terrorist oil they should be brought to book as well.
Our leaders have told us that we are facing years, possibly decades before terrorism is beaten, and for once I have to agree entirely. Holding marches and shouting not in my name will do no good at all. these terrorists don't care who they kill or even how. The "Peace at any price" crowd seem to think that by not doing anything to annoy these killers they will leave us alone. That isn't true. It's the very opposite. The terrorists make no secret now, a global Caliphate is the objective. It doesn't matter that this is unattainable "pie in the sky" That is what they are after. right now they are fighting in the Middle East, but they have plans to expand into The Iberian peninsular, and further East. All the time getting stronger while we run around saying we don't want to fight. We don't but they most certainly do. If they are not stopped, the day will inevitably come when the war (because that is what it is)will be openly fought on our streets. Then we'll see how far waving a placard in a demonstration gets.
