Just watched a news item. I didn't catch the name of the town, but apparently the Peshmerga were able to retake it from iS following bombing by the US air force. So it can work!!!!
It also unfortunately showed some of the antiquated weaponry the Kurds are using. I feel that on top of the bombing, we should be supplying them with more up to date weaponry. The fear is of course that the Kurds will be wanting their own homelands too and all sides Iraq, Turkey, and Syria are against that. At least that will not be a quasi religious terror war.

All these splinter groups go back to the Qu'ran and the Hadiths. It comes down to a narrow interpretation of a particular verse in the Qu'ran usually disputed by their alleged scholars, or something the prophet is supposed to have said, much of which is also disputed or just plain apocryphal.
Nevertheless, to a certain type of mentality this becomes translated as the word of Allah, and the proponents of that "message" only know one method of debate, extremely violent and barbaric.
So we have G-d knows how many of these splinter groups, al Nusra brigade, Hezbollah, Hamas, al Shabaab, al Queda, IS, Boko Haram. The list is almost endless, and all dedicated to killing as a means of getting their message across. even if we were all prepared to embrace Islam as a means of say al Queda not killing us. IS comes along next week, and does it anyway. On the grounds that al Queda are wrong to begin with. Peace and tolerance????
That is our choice in the future, unless and until these terror groups are once and for all eliminated. These new buzz words of Radicalisation, and de-radicalising, will not, and can not be of any use. they are essentially based on democratic principles and that plays no part in the minds of these killers

ISIS IS ENGAGED IN STREET TO STREET FIGHTING IN KOBANI,POSSIBLY FALLEN BY THE TIME I WRITE.
CONTROL OF KOBANI WOULD MEAN CONTROL OF BORDER AREA FROM ALEPPO TO RAQQA.
THERE HAS BEEN ARESTS OF SOME ISIS SUPPORTERS IN ENGLAND.

Yes, You are probably right in that. I haven't had time today to watch or read any news at all, but I understood yesterday ISIS were using mortar fire on Kobane town centre, and mortars are essentially short range weaponry, so they aren't far from their objective.
Not that I'm 100% sure what that objective is. unless they fully intend to widen the conflict by a few factors of 10. that I wouldn't have thought would be in their own interests at this point in time. Yes, it will probably greatly increase the flow of recruits but they would be little more than cannon fodder, without training or weapons.
The arrest of four supporters is very disturbing. it shows that plotting terror has come to our streets. Our security services do a magnificent job, given the cuts they have to swallow. We can only hope that job is good enough. I thought there were going to be safeguards to prevent them returning, and doing just what they are doing or was that just political chicanery again. Still all we can do, MUST do is carry on as if it wasn't happening.
On top of it all sooner or later there will be sparks flying when the Kurds start demanding their own homeland again and this time in a better position to negotiate. The Turks, Syrians, Jordanians Iraqis none of them want to see an independent Kurdistan. I believe this is one reason they are not being given more, and more modern weaponry.

Re: Syria warns West against intervention
Good morning Badboy
I hope that's right. According to al Jazeera also Reuters, IS are still in possession of something more than a third of the town. They appear to be unworried about air strikes. Given the weaponry they have compared to the relatively lightly armed Kurds whose weapons are virtually outdated anyway I wouldn't like to predict the outcome unless Turkey gets actively involved which as we've discussed introduces all sorts of ramifications.
I see the Indians and Pakistani's are fighting over Kashmir again. Both sides have very nebulous claims to suzerainty, Why they can't just leave the place alone is beyond me. certainly the population of Kashmir is no threat to either of them.

I would stake the shirt on my back that there are, and not only in Turkey I'll be bound. They are too well organised, and have a great deal of resource at their back, including ready cash. It would not greatly surprise me to find they have sleeper cells here; even a la Manchurian Candidate is a possibility.
How else does Anjem Choudry claim to know who some of them are, so he could intercede for Alan Henning. Much easier to negotiate with someone here rather than fighting for possession of Kobane

I think it is almost a certainty that there will be a massacre of the innocents. Turkey to be completely fair would be crazy to launch a ground offensive, although they certainly have the men and firepower to do it. I think it will have to be an international operation including NATO, and Russia as well as China.
I feel certain that it will come down to a ground offensive sooner or later. In the meantime if the reports are accurate our streets are already in their sights.

As for the warnings of a third world war, This is probably the closest we have come to one in many a long year, even though we still have some who think it can and will never happen. It's certainly in the right area, since Many experts agree that the source of Armageddon will be Megiddo in Israel.
Even without an outright war, I think there is little doubt that terrorists are returning from Syria and Iraq, and are determined to instigate acts of terror on; not only our streets, but Europe and the Americas as well. The security forces have to be 100% on the ball 100% of the time, the terrorists only have to get lucky now and then.
If Barmy Boris is correct then London alone has hundreds of them.

Yes, that is the sort of figure that is being bandied about now. It started with a couple of dozen, then went into the "low" hundreds and then 500 or more, Now it's 2,000 and rising.
Firstly I would like to know how they gather and collate this data, to have to revise it every couple of weeks. secondly, the inevitable claim is that they have been radicalised. That doesn't really explain it.
The real nub as I see it, is that these people were born here (or Europe) brought up, and educated here, yet They (however many there are) have rejected British/European values, and are apparently quite happy to kill and kill in the most barbaric ways including crucifixion. Rape seems to mean little or nothing among their ranks either, in fact brothels are maintained for the "fighters" to relax when not killing. It seems to be fairly convincing proof that for many, multiculturism has failed. Except where it can be used against us.

KURDISH FORCES HAVE BEATEN BACK ISIS FROM KOBANI.
WOMEN FIGHTERS ARE PARTICULARLY FEARED BECAUSE IT IS BELIEVED THAT A BULLET FROM A WOMEN FIGHTER WILL SEND THEM TO HELL.

Yes, some tribes do absolutely believe that. If the Peshmerga do start using women soldiers in numbers, bearing in mind what waits for them if the IS take them, it could change things somewhat.

The more they lose the better. that means fewer our forces will have to take out sooner or later. I can well believe they are training fighter pilots, they must have captured a few aircraft by now and I imagine there will be some defectors at least among their ranks.
I don't think it's a great problem though. They cannot possibly be up to the touch of the western pilots against them. The danger would come in if they started using "divine wind" tactics and using the aircraft as flying bombs.

Yes Badboy I had a feeling they would be Iraqi pilots. As I say, unless they start using them as flying bombs which is the big danger, I can't see them being much of a match for the vastly more modern western aircraft. Even the Tornado is newer than the MiG's and Sukhois provided by the Russians. The Iraqi aircraft that Iran was supposed to be refurbishing alone are getting on for 30-35 years old. Syrian ones may be a little more modern but it won't be much. Even the Russians will draw the line at providing more to Syria at the moment.
