We don't know yet what "excuse" Amaral has. It's maybe too soon to judge. And I don't see what is wrong with him closing his eyes in the Courtroom, maybe he was concentrating on something.

He is fighting for Justice for Madeleine, the right to have the injunction lifted, maybe hoping this hearing will go in his favour thereby increasing his chances of success in the Trial. If I was a Witness for him and maybe travelled a long distance I would be miffed if he couldn"t hang around to hear my Testimony. Did he advise the Judge beforehand that he had to leave early or couldn"t he stay another couple of hours ? He managed to speak to the Public outside the Courthouse.

Beattie. the witnesses being heard at the moment are for the publishers of the book. Anything they say will not be affected whether Dr. Amaral is there or not. There could be many reasons why he closed his eyes during the proceedings. If you're the UK press you can put it down to the effects of a boozy lunch. Perhaps he left the building to walk off the effects? I'd like to think that he's planning his next surprise.

Both Gerry and Kate are supposed to be taking the stand, but Gerry is legging it today and it really wouldn't surprise me if Kate legged it too! They still think they''re the Teflon Two, I reckon.

We stayed in Portugal to aide investigation.

We understood every thesis had to be investigated and we understand we were cleared.

We were prepared to come back to Portugal, infact, obliged to, but were not required to.

Amarals thesis is that Madeleine is dead - absolute no evidence to support that thesis.

Has he left the court then? Is it still in session? I presume he's on his way to the airport then??

Yes, he's left. Said he had to return to UK due to work committments, but that Kate would be staying on. Spent about 20 mins answering questions then said he had to dash.

Why have they hired detectives and not asked the police to help them long ago?

The officers they're depending on to carry on the search for Madeleine? But they haven't asked for the investigation to be re-opened!

looks that way. Should be a very interesting questioning so. I'm very curious if they bring up the questions she refused to answer when Madeleine first went missing. WILL SHE ANSWER THEM THIS TIME?

No Official Police Force are looking for Madeleine, and if they thought that Madeleine was out there alive somewhere they would be searching for her.
The McCanns had the chance to have the Case reopened by a certain Date, but obviously declined to do so, yet they harp on that its only them searching for her.
