There is what they call a fatwa out on him. We would call it a contract. I believe it's for a $10,000,000. That probably explains why so many foreign would be mercenaries are over there. That kind of money is tempting

This doesn't surprise me. Another of the idiocies that their so called wise men came out with a couple of months ago, was to the effect that women can do their bit in fighting by in effect being shall we say "soldiers comforts" in other words prostitutes.

Good morning badboy
I've tried to do some research on this one. The figure of $10 million, was from an on line magazine called the Clarion. For the rest, hard figures seem difficult to come by. I gather that the general figure in 2012 was a pitiful $450,000
Of course, as we all know, the whole picture has changed in Syria since 2012, so they may have upped the ante to account for that. I also see that very often there are two figures quoted. According to al Mehdi, Geert Wilders has a fatwa on him, and it's one price just for killing him, and a much increased price if they actually behead him, which again as we all know is the Islamic favoured method.
I think the chances of anyone getting close enough, and time enough to kill Assad that way are slim to non existent, which may account for the increased amount. Then again, as we all know with journalists it may be "poetic" licence.

Re: Syria warns West against intervention
Good morning panda
In the days when Saddam Hussein al-Tikriti ruled in Iraq, there is absolutely no doubt that he had chemical weapons at his disposal, he used them more than once, but at least once on an entire village.
After he was toppled, the weapons inspectors found little or no traces of such weapons, and most people, including me think they went to Syria.
There is evidence that chemical weapons have been used in Syria several times, but I have not seen one shred of definitive proof that it was Assad. or at least was ordered in his name, I'm not saying he isn't capable of it, but that there is no real proof. In fact some months ago, the inspectors could not say from which direction they had been fired.
We have seen over the last few days, and in fact over the last few years, that these extremists are just as monstrous as Assad. You also have to bear in mind that at this point in time, Assad's forces have pushed the extremists back on all fronts. The only town of any size they still hold being Aleppo, which is slowly being pulverised.
The point being that Assad doesn't need to use such horrific weapons at the moment, because he's winning. The only losers are the helpless civilian population, killed, maimed and displaced into makeshift camps with a lack of sanitary facilities. The young girls being importuned by men two and three times their age. (seems to me that's all they think about)
Assad is happy Damascus is safe (for the nonce) he himself is in no danger everything is as normal. why does he need to use such barbaric weapons?
What do you think?

Re: Syria warns West against intervention
Morning katertaif,
My knowledge of what is going on in the Middle East but I thought that becuse Assad was highly educated in the U.K. had British wife and in laws he would not be a Barbaric Leader , like most Arab Countries seem to have. He has seen the destruction of an ancient beautiful Country and a massive number of it's population now in refugee camps. I do wonder why he didn't ask for British aid before the situation at the time.
The Middle East is like a cauldron and with so many different tribes, will never be resolved , The danger for the U.K. and the USA , both sending aircraft to aid the President, that there will be a retaliation in the U.K. and USA as happened with Saddam Hussein. Why is the United Nations so inadequate in situations like this?

Good afternoon panda
My computer has been in for a service, so I have been sat in front of an empty desk all day. (what on earth did we do before them)
Anyway, Assad is indeed educated by our standards, and has an English wife, but their minds are North South, while ours are East West. They don't put the same value on Human life.
You also have to take the peculiarities of what they are pleased to call a religion into account. There is, and cannot be a meeting of minds.

Re: Syria warns West against intervention
Good afternoon katertaif,
I can't remember what life was like without a PC.....  I know we used to write lots of letters and reports, but I cant write for toffee nowadays. My scrawl reads like something a psychotic doctor has scribbled.
In all probability Mrs Assad will have converted her own religious preferences to those of her husband. Several of my ex colleagues had to do so when marrying a partner with another faith.

Re: Syria warns West against intervention
Good afternoon young Sir
You have no idea how pleased I am to her that you too have trouble with joined up writing these days. I thought it was just me.
Some years ago in China, I was actually congratulated on my penmanship. I can assure you, I would not be so congratulated now. Mine is more like drunken spider with hiccups now.
As you say Mrs. Assad will have taken the faith of her husband. It is in fact mandatory as I'm sure you know. That doesn't explain that she is English, and her mind was, once at least oriented more or less the same as ours. I understand that while her husband's troops were on a killing spree some months back Mrs. A. was on a shopping spree, quite unconcerned apparently at the carnage and destruction. If she was horrified about it all, she hid it very well.
Of course while closeted in Damascus, it'll be more or less a case of information a la Fuhrerbunker but when loose around Harrod's Selfridge's Macy's etc. She must have watched Sky news, CNN, Fox News etc.

Bless you, to hear I'm not alone with writers shakes has made my day a little, (not much though) brighter. Â Â
I would imagine, although I may be wrong, the scenes of destruction and massacres inflicted on the civil population from the air, especially the 'oil drum bombs that we see raining down on the outlying viiages on tv will not be ones shown to the masses in Syria and would such visions bother her? Hay and sunshine springs to mind...

Good evening malena stool
No I grant you those pictures would be severely edited I agree, and certainly not shown in Syria. I wonder though, as I say when she is out shopping with her platinum cards, in London, Paris New York etc. what she thinks when she sees the slightly less edited versions I can't imagine them being able to keep her away from the TV screens altogether. Assuming she has seen at least some of the carnage caused, she must be very hard hearted herself or believe every word Mr. A. says regardless of any evidence to the contrary

Hi fuzeta
Never having been to Harrods with a bottomless money pit I couldn't say. I went in there once after a job interview, as my government wanted a Harrods bag she could casually flaunt in the local supermarkets.

Good morning katertaif,
She may well be fully aware of his treatment of the civilians he rules over, but like Elena Ceaușescu she is standing by her husband. Hopefully she never has to stand by him in front of his enemies weapons, as did Nicolae Ceaușescu's wife.

Good morning malena stool
On balance it seems she must know what is happening to the plebs. As you say. The attitude always seems to be it can't happen to me and in Mrs. C's case it did.
Having said that, the poor performance of these alleged freedom fighters in recent months has been poor to appalling. I believe it is largely because they are unified only in their religion, but many of them have sufficiently strange interpretations, of what is already a strange religion that they just cannot put up any unified strategy under a unified commander.
It may be that this ISIS/ISIL group will reverse this, I don't know. If that does turn out to be the case, the cure may be very much worse than the disease. Assad leaves the Christian population alone, we already have evidence that these alleged Jihadists don't.
This could well be the beginning of a new phase in the terror war Islam is waging with oil money/

Re: Syria warns West against intervention
Heaven forbid that this is the case, but it's been a series of relentless pressure build ups right across the middle east certainly since Iraq was freed from the iron grip of Saddam. There are, I believe some very acute brains directing the actions of the 'rebels' in whatever country they show themselves.katertaif wrote:Good morning malena stool
