Re: WHAT do you think of benefit fraud?
and the people who are claiming benefits illegally give those who are genuine a bad name
and sometimes genuine people get tarnished with the same brush which causes a lot of distress
for genuine claimants.

I AGREED,THE GENUINE CLAIMANTS GET TARRED WITH THE SAME BRUSH AS THE FALSE CLAIMANTS,I WAS THINKING ALL GENUINE CLAIMANTS PERHAPS SHOULD BUY A LOTTERY TICKET OR GO FOR THAT SUPPOSED PRIZE DRAW SERVICE.cherry1 wrote:and the people who are claiming benefits illegally give those who are genuine a bad name

I FEEL BAD BEING IN A SYSTEM RIDDLED WITH FRAUD,EVEN THOUGH I AM GENUINE CLAIMANT.
EVEN COUNTY COUNCIL WORKERS(MIGHT HAVE BEEN EMPLOYEES AT MY LOCAL DAY CENTRE) ARE AT IT.
I,A GENUINE CLAIMANT WOULD BE DELIGHTED TO HAVE SOME OF THE JOBS THESE BENEFITS FRAUDSTER HAVE IF I COULD/CAN DO THEM IN SPITE OF MY SEVERE DISABILITY/IES.

Many genuine claimants echo your sentiments Badboy, unfortunately dishonesty and
corruption seem to be all around us.

Re: WHAT do you think of benefit fraud?
Benefits are there for the genuine people like you Badboy but I hope one day
that maybe your wishes will come true for you.
I think both of those jobs would be extremely interesting and it would be very satisfying to
expose the cheats.

One of my first ever jobs (I've had many!) was as a benefits supervisor - sickness, injury and maternity benefits. Part of my job was to send any dubious claims to Special Investigation Section. I recall a woman who had made 4 claims for maternity benefit in a 12 month period. There were cases of lots of people apparently living at the same address, all claiming sickness benefit and income support, who sometimes turned out to be one person. Oh the fun we had!
Re: WHAT do you think of benefit fraud?
I bet that was interesting job, there were some programmes on tv a while ago following
the benefit investigators, although must be very frustrating work but also very satisfying
when they nail someone and get them prosecuted for cheating.

Re: WHAT do you think of benefit fraud?
I used to work for a local council in the days of the old rates system and it was discovered that a woman working in the office was claiming full benefits! Later when the community charge (poll tax) came in, a guy who actually worked in the benefits department registered himself as Mickey Mouse, didn't pay a penny needless to say and wrote to the local paper in his real name urging people not to pay either. Goodness knows how he kept his job but he did.

Rogue Traders presenter was indeed a rogue

I wonder if he was rumbled by someone at the council watching him on TV. You could understand if he had a job behind the scenes but how he thought he'd get away with working as a presenter on a prime time programme I don't know.

Definitely the end of his TV career I should think.
P.S. Another link added which explains how he was caught - not by anyone watching the programme!

It would to be hoped NBY, but there's a fair chance his police record may even enhance his career, Richard Madely's forgetfullness when shopping for supermarket champagne bears testimony to the slipperiness of our Teflon coated celebs.

Re: WHAT do you think of benefit fraud?
Unfortunately in many cases the new reforms are targetting the wrong people, Atos I believe are paid for getting people back into work, therefore they dont care less whether the person is ready and able to work or not. I believe on Monday there is an undercover programme about Atos coming on tv.

That's Panorama at 8.30 (BBC1) on Monday evening, though the topic sometimes has to be changed at the last minute.

Re: WHAT do you think of benefit fraud?
I READ IN GUARDIAN THAT A JUDGE HAS HAS RULED THAT A CASE BY TWO DISABLED PEOPLE CAN BE HEARD ABOUT WHETHER THE WCA IS LAWFUL BECAUSE THEY DON'T ASSESS MENTAL HEALTH CORRECTLY,ALSO HEARD THAT ONE PERSON WHO APPLIED TO BA AN ATOS ASSESSOR WAS TOLD THAT ONLY A CERTAIN NUMBER OF PEOPLE SHOULD BE ASSESSED AS INCAPABLE OF WORK.cherry1 wrote:Unfortunately in many cases the new reforms are targetting the wrong people, Atos I believe are paid for getting people back into work, therefore they dont care less whether the person is ready and able to work or not. Re: WHAT do you think of benefit fraud?
they are not qualified to assess those with mental health and some who are clearly not ready for work have been pushed into work, there have been suicides and a number of people with mental health are suicidal over this, the constant worry and stress of being pushed into work before they are ready and well enough to work is hindering their recovery.
mental health should be assessed in a totally different way.
