Thanks Anna, it's been years since I've used the word, it just sprang to mind when I read your reply.

I like to find the origins of words like rammel. It sounded to me like it might have come from the textile industry, but haven't found any reference.

You are probably right Anna, as you know the textile industry was huge both in Leicester and the North when we had real industries here in the UK.

Times were hard back in the day... I remember when I was a lad at Christmas, the only thing I had from my dad was a new tin of boot polish, a brush and polishing rag to clean the gentry's boots at the station.
