Re: May take a few months to deport Abu Qatada
I like to find the origins of words like rammel. It sounded to me like it might have come from the textile industry, but haven't found any reference.malena stool wrote:Thanks Anna, it's been years since I've used the word, it just sprang to mind when I read your reply.AnnaEsse wrote:rammel [ˈræməl]malena stool wrote:Sadly our great and glorious leaders will not have learnt their lesson. As long as they can profit from immigration they'll still allow the detritus of Europe and the Sub Continent to pour into our country completely unchecked as to their appropriate health and skill status.AnnaEsse wrote:Like a few others, they came here, accepted benefits and lived in free accommodation, but hated us and told us so. Good riddance to bad rubbish, as my dad used to say.malena stool wrote:Thank God this bunch of parasites have been shown the door, but there's still a lot more out there.
Just a shame we can't send them a bill.
Anna, Here in the East Midlands (when I was a lad ) our name for 'bad rubbish' was 'rammel'.

You are probably right Anna, as you know the textile industry was huge both in Leicester and the North when we had real industries here in the UK.

Times were hard back in the day... I remember when I was a lad at Christmas, the only thing I had from my dad was a new tin of boot polish, a brush and polishing rag to clean the gentry's boots at the station.AnnaEsse wrote:Kids are so spoilt these days!malena stool wrote:The bits under the looms which the little kids used to dodge under and collect while the machines were working...AnnaEsse wrote:It sounds like a textile word and makes me think of the bits that got swept off the floor.malena stool wrote:You are probably right Anna, as you know the textile industry was huge both in Leicester and the North when we had real industries here in the UK.
