Portugal did not start nor want this fight. I think that they have been very classy in keeping quiet on their investigations, as opposed to SY leaking every suspect, no matter how ridiculous. IMO, Portugal did not want this battle, but are forced to stand their ground.

Hi jinvta, I just mentioned on the Dr Martin thread that I think this is all happening as a result of an informant , I'm sure. No way would SY suddenly change tack when they were supposedly checking out all those suspects abroad. For the Portugese to go for it, they must think something can be achieved .Let's hope they are right because if nothing comes of this the Portugese will certainly close the case. I hope for everyone's sake

Re: Sky News Report
I am bloddy sick and tired of hearing that Portugal aren't doing this they aren't doing that, they'll stop doing this and they'll stop doing that. Who left the children alone. Who didn't answer questions. who didn't provide the PJ with details they required, who didn't pass on the Gaspar statements in a timely manner? who called the Portuuese fuching tossers repeatedly. what about those wonderful rogatory letters which had to be sent how many times to the UK.
No I don't think the Portugal are in a dick waving contest. the laws are the laws of the country and everuyone has to abide by them SY just cannot go into another country and start making demands, SY are telling the media that the Portuguese aren't co-operating. they are. SY want a joint operation. Why? In this case im sorry I wouldn't have SY in a joint operation. Don't forget there already has been a joint operation and this led to the McCs being made arguidos. Im so tired of hearing about the number of suspects the Met has and how much it is costing the taxpayer they are screaming about the PJ because the Met have so far done jack tish. IMO Redwood has run to the media at every opportunity. The Crimewatch Programme was treated as it was a channel premiere, and whilst like you LJC I support the UK Police, I also have reason to believe they are not the worlds greatest. I also believe that had the Prime Minister and others not got involved we would have had a very different ending to this case a long time ago.

Re: Sky News Report
Forensic DNA tests 'reveal traces of Madeleine's body on resort beach' Observer
Mark Townsend and Ned Temko
Sunday 7 October 2007
Traces of Madeleine McCann's body were found on a Portuguese beach weeks after she was reported missing, during tests by a former detective renowned for locating abducted children.
Forensic analysis by retired South African police superintendent Danie Krugel claimed to reveal Madeleine's body had either been temporarily buried or was still beneath the beach at Praia da Luz, the resort from where she disappeared on 3 May.
Based on a combination of Madeleine's DNA sample and GPS satellite technology, Krugel's findings were taken so seriously by Portuguese detectives that officers twice searched the beach.
Krugel, of the University of Bloemfontein, claims that his technique is able to locate a missing person anywhere in the world using only a single strand of hair. He became famous in South Africa after helping a television crew locate the whereabouts of five South African girls who went missing during the Eighties. Last July the retired detective spent four days in Praia da Luz following a request for assistance from Madeleine's parents, Kate and Gerry McCann.
'He clearly identified an area of the beach where Madeleine may have passed through or was buried,' a close friend of the McCanns said yesterday.
Krugel's report of his findings to Portuguese detectives eventually led to British officers being asked to bring in sniffer dogs to supplement the search for Madeleine. The subsequent reaction of the dogs to Kate's clothing - the so-called scent of death - led to the couple being declared formal suspects over the death of their daughter.
The results of Krugel's investigations come amid mounting concern that the Portuguese-led investigation into the disappearance of Madeleine has stalled with an increasingly exhausted core of 'half-a-dozen' CID officers awaiting potentially crucial final forensic results from laboratories in Birmingham.
Reports in the Portuguese press claim that the original team of more than 200 police who were involved in the frantic early days of the investigation has now been whittled down to a small core who have been working without holidays and are 'completely exhausted'.
The inquiry, increasingly managed by UK-based detectives, appears once again to be focusing on trying to find a missing child rather than on the role of Madeleine's parents in their daughter's disappearance.

Re: Sky News Report
google maps aerial view of the areas likely to be searched based on PJ files
Analysis of sites where Maddie might still be buried without a set date.
Searches to the homes of former Ocean Club employees in Praia da Luz were some of the steps requested by British police and rejected by the Portuguese authorities as unfounded.
by Marisa Rodrigues
The judge to whom the requests contained in the letters rogatory were sent did not consider valid the arguments used by Scotland Yard. The [English] detectives wanted the Judiciary Police (PJ) to do house searches to people [simply] because they worked at the resort at the time when Madeleine disappeared, which made them “persons of interest”.
Another treatment was given to the requests for searches and excavations, using dogs and a georadar as resources, which were accepted as JN disclosed yesterday. The Public Prosecutor from Portimão, which holds the responsibility of analysing the formal requests for judicial cooperation, gave the green light to these steps - a turning point in the British investigation with Scotland Yard assuming for the first time the hypothesis that Madeleine is dead.
The sites were chosen for being prone to the disposal of a body. JN knows that this is the key argument used by Scotland Yard to substantiate the request for searches. The places are near to the apartment where the McCann family was staying during their holidays, in the beach and in a road which at the time was undergoing repairs. Another of the requests is for a georadar to be used in order to analyse and drill the soil and two dogs which alert to the presence of cadavers. Resources that Scotland Yard wants to bring from the UK. In case a deformation on the ground is detected there is a green light to proceed with the excavations. This is a process that could drag on for some time if the relevant places to be excavated belong to private owners or to State-owned road operators.
The next step is to define the operational strategy and set the date of the proceedings, tasks which are incumbent on the South Directorate of the PJ, responsible for carrying out the steps authorized by the prosecutor. The National Directorate of the PJ has to decide if the British detectives and experts can closely follow the actions that will always be performed by the Portuguese inspectors since Scotland Yard has no authority to act in Portugal. JN found that such a request was addressed to the Attorney General's Office and communicated informally to the Judiciary Police but for it to be appreciated, it must be formalized with the National Director of the PJ, which has not happened yet.
Sniffer Dogs
Scotland Yard regards the dogs that they want to use in the searches as “better” than Eddie and Keela, the sniffer dogs who alerted to blood and cadaver odour in the McCanns car and apartment at the Ocean Club resort.
Joint Investigation
Scotland Yard and Madeleine's parents argue that the constitution of a joint investigation team would accelerate the discovery of Madeleine and have criticized the “excessive bureaucracy” of the letters rogatory*.
The logistics required to implement these new endeavours are costly. JN knows they will be supported by the UK, which has already spent around EUR 7 million with this investigation.

Brought over from the OFM 'webmasters' statement on leaking to the MSM & the damage it causes? Of course it doesn't apply if you're tractormans wife or a mere burglar trying to earn a dishonest crust.

Official Find Madeleine Campaign
7th of May 2014 - Media Interference
We are dismayed with the way the media has behaved over the last couple of days in relation to our daughter’s case. There is an on-going, already challenging, police investigation taking place and media interference in this way not only makes the work of the police more difficult, it can potentially damage and destroy the investigation altogether – and hence the chances of us finding Madeleine and discovering what has happened to her. As Madeleine’s parents, this just compounds our distress. We urge the media to let the police get on with their work and please show some respect and consideration to Madeleine and all our family.
Thank you.

Morning matthew, just who are this couple that they have been able to get everyone to search for their daughter who wouldn't be missing if it wasn't for their negligence.!!!! Made a fortune in the process from generous donors , yet remain the untouchables.
The cost has been horrendous and Portugal in particular has had to put up with hordes of Press descending on PDL , upsetting the residents and giving the area a bad name for Families.
Now we have another big expense and even in the unlikely event evidence will be found that Madeleine is dead, how did she get buried? Who buried her?

Morning Roasted Arizona, you mean the McCanns suing the British Press for reporting what should have been secret??? Who do we think was giving out the information to the Press.??? SY to Clarence, Clarence to the Press? SY to the McCanns, McCanns to the Press.?
Brunt has just given the latest news, the Chief Portugese Detective and his team have arrived in Faro and discussions with SY will be held on where to search and when.
Brunt said there is distinct hostility between the Portugese and SY Police and he hopes they can work together long enough to complete the search.

Chief Inspector Sir Bernard Hogan Howe has just been interviewed by sky News and says he is hopeful that the new search will bring up some evidence.
The Interviewer mentioned the bad feeling between the Portugese Police and SY and he was careful not to say much, merely that he expected the search
to go well.

Yes, but if it was Redwood , he does like the publicity and you only have to remember his opinions on T.V. , he should have been replaced a long time ago. Now we have a meeting between SY and the Portugese which is going to be strained, will Redwood learn to keep his mouth shut?

The latest from Martin Brunt:-
Apparently SY have asked the Portugese if they can interview 8 PORTUGESE witnesses, Redwood really is pushing the boat out and could jeopardise the whole search.
Is this deliberate or is he just really as thick as he looks.???

The Portugese Police asked the then Home Secretary for copies of 6 months Bank Statements , but the Home Secretary said that was too intrusive. Want to bet the Portugese will refuse.? This has become a farce and I wouldn't be surprised if the search is cancelled.
