Brunty - McCanns v Amaral...The Next Round
December 09, 2009 7:36 PM
Kate and Gerry McCann will launch their libel action against former police chief Goncalo Amaral in Lisbon on Friday.
They want a permanent ban on his book The Truth of the Lie, in which he challenged their version of events the night their daughter Madeleine vanished in May, 2007.
And they want around a million pounds in damages, money they say will go to the Madeleine Fund to support the continuing search for her.
I'm not expecting them to give evidence at the opening of a hearing that may drag on for several months.
In September, the McCanns got a temporary ban on the book, which they claim is hampering public support for the search.
Mr Amaral had many of his assets frozen and thousands of unsold copies of the book were returned to the McCann lawyers.
It sounds like a potentially explosive courtroom confrontation, but I understand Mr Amaral may not even be there.
Rumours on the ground suggest he may be across the city launching a new book.

Perfect timing - perhaps Sandra Felguieras can collar the McCanns for another interview - this time about the new book.

Sandra Felguieras what a Woman, she never holds back does she, the best Interviewer by far.
I personally do believe Sandra Felguieras does not believe a word they are saying, and I feel I can hear that in the tone of her questions and her voice.
Its a pity the English Sky etc do not have the balls to ask the McCann's some important questions and pressing questions, instead of bowing down to them all the time.

He once penned a "dreary" article about expecting never to visit the Algarve again.
Crime reporter, my ass, he's a stooge, and not a very good one at that.

I don't think they'll send him to Portugal again, after making that comment the last time there, that blood found in 5a was a perfect match to Maddie's. Sky doesn't want him saying anything like that again. Agreed LA.

Dr Amaral's new book is to be publicly launched tomorrow at a Lisbon bookshop at 6.30pm. Perhaps Gerry will be in the queue for a signed copy!
From Joana Morais.
"Gonçalo Amaral is not a character.
He is the boldness of Truth. He is the challenge of Truth.»
Francisco Moita Flores in Preface
Gonçalo Amaral's new book, "The English Gag - The story of a forbidden book", will be publicly launched on Friday, the 11th of December, 2009, at the Ler Devagar - Lx Factory bookshop, in Lisbon, at 6.30 p.m.
With a preface by Francisco Moita Flores, the book will be presented by Professor José Adelino Maltez."

Anna, or maybe he'll just have the police arrest everyone queueing to buy the book
They'll have to leave the shop with the book wrapped in plain brown paper, or with a Barbard Cartland dustjacket on it to be safe

Anyone remember a very funny sketch, I think it was Not The Nine O Clock News (but I couldn't find it on YouTube).
The stereotypical "dirty mac" man sidles into a Sex Shop. He's looking at the magazines on the shelves, always looking over his shoulder to mae sure nobody has seen him go into the shop.
He chooses a mag and hides it under his coat. Goes over to the counter and sneaks it over to the assistant so nobody will see what he is buying.
Then he says to the assistant, can you wrap it up well?
So the assistant puts it into a carrier bag with - you've guessed it - SEX SHOP in big letters on it, and hands it to him!

That Nina from Cape Town on Brunty's blog sounds like a real "Advocate Barbie" sympathiser/supporter aswell as a McCann/Cipriano sympathiser/supporter. For those who have no idea who "Advocate Barbie" aka Cezanne Visser is take a look at this:-
Johannesburg, South Africa
Barbie won't be in jail over Christmas
Dec 8, 2009 1:04 PM
Former advocate Cezanne Visser or "advocate Barbie" will spend Christmas at home and will only hear next year if she is to be sent to jail for sexually abusing young girls and women.
Acting judge Chris Eksteen on Tuesday postponed Visser's trial to February 8 next year at the request of her advocate Johann Engelbrecht SC who said the expert witnesses they intended calling were not yet ready to testify.
The judge warned he would not allow any further delays as Visser had already been convicted three months ago.
Visser was in October this year convicted on 11 of the 14 sex related charges against her.
Judge Eksteen rejected her claims that she had been a hapless pawn of her former boyfriend Dirk Prinsloo.
He said she was a willing partner in the sexual abuse of three girls from a children's home and another three young women.
Visser was convicted of defrauding a children's home by pretending she was married in order to convince them to let children spend time with her and Prinsloo.
She was further found guilty on three charges of soliciting a 15-year-old girl to commit indecent acts and indecently assaulting an 11-year-old and a 14-year-old girl.
The judge also convicted her of being a beneficiary to the indecent assault of a 20-year-old woman and indecently assaulting two other young women as well as the possession and manufacturing of child porn.
The judge found Visser had willingly associated herself and actively participated in the depraved sexual activities at her former lover Prinsloo's house.
She had taken the initiative to approach children's homes to get young girls for the purpose of sexual abuse. Her actions were consistently aimed at the sexual abuse of children and women solely for the gratification of her and Prinsloo's sexual needs, the judge said at the time.
Prinsloo, who disappeared while on a business trip to Russia several years ago, will probably only be extradited to South Africa after being tried in Belarus for allegedly attempting to rob a bank in that country.

Maybe Gerry will be waiting at the door with yet another team of defectives to take possession of all the books, which he will then sell on Ebay to raise cash for the fund.
Re: Brunty - McCanns v Amaral...The Next Round
Why yes, Ebay is the ideal medium for Gerry. He's very au fait with the Paypal button, isn't he....

That does rather ignore the fact that the injunction was granted,in Portugal, by a Portuguese Judge, in a Portuguese Court, acting under Portuguese Law.
So I am puzzled as to where the English influence apparently comes from.

An injunction based on only hearing witnesses for the McCanns and their lies and fabrications because, according to their lawyer, it was urgent and had to be done secretly. Now she will hear the other side of the story, finally.
You are very naive sans-souci if you think that your arguments hold any water with us. Of course, you know that there is pressure from the English side and it started from the first day. What amazes me is that there are people like you who are so adamant in their defense of the indefensable, two neglectful, vindictive, selfish, selfcentered and narcissistic parents who never even got off their backsides to look for their "abducted" daughter. Two people who are more interested in try to establish a reputation (I don't mean try to save a reputation because they never had one) than in finding justice for their daughter. I find it impossible to see any redeeming qualities in that pair.

I wonder who you are referring to as "us", Carolina? Do you mean members of this forum? I rather take that as read. Or do you mean the people of Portugal? In which case I would content that those who are still interested in the case may have more respect for Portuguese law and institutions, and may object to suggestions that undue influence could be brought to bear by a foreign power on a case involving a Portuguese citizen.
The court is the correct place for this to be thrashed out.

And it will be thrashed out in court because that is what Gonçalo Amaral has wanted from the beginning. Have you not figured it out yet that the strategy of the McCanns was to financially strangle GA in order to force an out of court settlement. But fortunately, they will not get their way and they will have to face lawyers and answer questions truthfully put to them in a court of law, which should prove to be very difficult for them. Haven't you noticed either that the McCanns have not settled any libel case in a court of law.
I myself believe that the Portuguese people have little trust in the justice system due to too much political influence, especially after all the scandals in which the PM has been involved being shelved conveniently. Furthermore, most Portuguese believe that the English government put pressure on Sócrates to have the case shelved.

Re: Brunty - McCanns v Amaral...The Next Round
Carolina - agree wholeheartedly with your comments. I pray that this time Sr Amaral will be able to put his point of view to the Portuguese judiciary and that this farce will not be allowed to continue. It does worry me that Sr Amaral has been the target of this duo and I have no faith in the British or Portuguese justice systems any more. Surely, if proper questions/rogatories had been asked of the holiday-makers about all the discrepancies in their statements this case could've been wrapped up long ago.
I'm just catching up after 2 weeks holiday and come back to this hearing and the Halligen, Hewlett hoo ha. Plenty of reading still to do.

Carolina, as usual you are spot on.
I really wonder if the McCanns came of their own accord or if they were forced to. Anyway, we'll find out tomorrow whether they "swiftly" return to England or stay on a few days longer because they have to. Or maybe they might just take a trip down to Praia da Luz with David "Grabbit" Edgar to check out the lawless villages and possible lairs within a ten km radius of PdL.
