Re: Sky News 11.30 Press conference live
There are dedicated cold case review teams in Britain comprising retired high ranking detectives and overseen by serving high ranking detectives. They are specialised teams. They collate and store information on a special data base system, just like Kate and Gerry want. It would save all that messing about trying to get all of the other organisations, as Gerry calls them, to co-operate with each other.
Nice and simple. Just ask...

Re: Sky News 11.30 Press conference live
Gerry talks about all that information, not even on the same data base. Ahem! What about the info gathered by Metodo 3, Oakley International, Dave Edgar and sidekick and all the info gathered by their own dedicated lines? Has all that been passed to the police? Or, which data bases might all that be on?
as above
I missed it had to go out so just catching up.Well what to say its these very sad faces of Kates i find odd compare to Portugal to highlights bling photo ops each with their happy smiling faces pictures of Kate looking off into the distance under trees full of blossum ,gazing out to sea,she really must have spent time in front of the mirror practicing all these sad sad looks.Does'nt fool anybody Kate .Sorry.As for Gerry its his humble look seen it all before. He's really trying hard to keep the excitement hidden at the thought of all that sueing money.

Re: Sky News 11.30 Press conference live
I've just this minute watched it - It was my little 'uns naptime so had to get him settled first.
Didnt see anything new in it really.
A couple of things struck me though:
Firstly, much as people around here see through them, I actually think from a purely unbiased perspective of those who don't take an active interest in the case as we do, that they actually come across quite well. Yes, Kate does look ill and I imagine it garners them sympathy in a lot of ways. Secondly, at least in that particular Press Conference, (I havent watched all of it because even Sky got bored!) Gerry does not really come across as arrogant.
The points they were making were well put across. If I was watching that just because I happened to have the news on, without knowing much background, and without the benefit of knowledge that I have now, I would think "Oh my God, the Police are ignoring things that could find Madeleine!"
Of course it helps, that at least in the portion that I observed, there were no leading or difficult questions asked.
That was trying to look at it from the "laymans" point of view.
Now, I still am not convinced that they are guilty of anything further than leaving the kids initially, and I am not convinced by Sr Amaral's theory (although I will fight to my dying breathe to support his right to have and discuss that theory). I am convinced neither by abduction or accident or homicide. The truth is I just don't know.
However I DO believe that The Mccann's behaviour since the beginning has damaged any search for Madeleine far more than any book that will ever be written by any Police detective. So, no matter what the truth of what happened that day, until they stop worrying about the ins and outs of what people are saying about them, and just get on with it (Scream from the rooftops to get the case re-opened,Scream from the rooftops to get someone completely unbiased to review what has gone before, insist on attempting a reconstruction, villify their own friends in the press if they won't help, find an investigative firm that specialises in Child Abduction, I could go on) they are never going to achieve what they insist to this day they want to achieve - and thats to find Madeleine.
Didnt see anything new in it really.

Re: Sky News 11.30 Press conference live
Just watched the McCanns' statement on Sky and I'm afraid that , as ever in these rehearsed situations where they are asked no tricky questions, they seem quite convincing. I don't believe them because I have spent so many hours looking into the case and have read the now- banned book, but I agree with Lizzy that many, particularly the more xenophobic types, who don't have an interest in the case will.
However, the facts that have emerged will make people think again so it is a hollow victory IMO.

I don't know what happened, how it happened, but I trust the dogs. Gerry stated that the dogs' findings are intelligence and not evidence, so intelligence it is and fine by me to form a personal opinion. If there was a trial then the question of evidence should be considered but listening to witnesses under oath and having access to all relevant documents and files the intelligence might, just might turn into evidence. Who knows?

Re: Sky News 11.30 Press conference live
This is the first press conference for along time where they have sat at a desk and she hasn't been grabbing at his nether regions ha ha.
This type of press conference planned in advance reminds me of past press conferences when police and body language experts are monitoring there suspects, I think that is one of the reasons (amongst loads) that they look shifty today.

Why London? If I wanted Leicestershire Police to take a more active role I would hold a press conference outside their Police HQ.

Re: Sky News 11.30 Press conference live
Have only just seen this, but had a couple of thoughts:
Kate mentions wanting "to achieve an effective search." It's well known that the most effective search for a missing child is the one performed within a few hours of them going missing. Not everyone performed an effective search that night did they?
Also, Gerry mentions wanting the different authorities to "work together". Perhaps if de Freitas had attended the hearing we would have found out that they WERE doing. I do agree with Gerry though - I think it would be fantastic if the British authorities started to cooperate with the Portuguese!!!
