http://news.aol.co.uk/main-news/story/police-cars-attacked-after-shooting/1896970/
Two patrol cars have been attacked after members of a community where a young man was shot dead by police took to the streets to demand "justice".

The 29-year-old, named locally as father-of-four Mark Duggan, died at the scene in Tottenham, north London, on Thursday.

About 120 people marched from the local Broadwater Farm area to Tottenham Police Station, forcing officers to close the High Road and put traffic diversions in place.

After night fell, two police cars parked about 200 yards from the police station were set upon.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Missiles were thrown at them. One was set alight and one was pushed into the middle of the High Road."

Officers were being dispatched to disperse the crowd, he said. He could not confirm that those responsible for the trouble were connected to the protest.

A family friend of Mr Duggan, who gave her name only as Nikki, 53, said the man's friends and relatives had organised the protest because "something has to be done" and the marchers wanted "justice for the family."

Some of those involved lay in the road to make their point, she said.

"They're making their presence known because people are not happy," she added. "This guy was not violent. Yes, he was involved in things but he was not an aggressive person. He had never hurt anyone."

It was revealed that Mr Duggan had been travelling in a minicab and was gunned down after an apparent exchange of fire. Officers had been attempting to carry out an arrest under the Trident operational command unit, which deals with gun crime in the black community, according to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

Violent Riots Ravage Tottenham After Shooting

Petrol bombs were thrown, shops looted and eight officers injured during
violent riots in Tottenham following a protest over the fatal shooting of a man
by police.

A crowd of around 300 set fire to buildings, bins and vehicles, while
missiles and petrol bombs were thrown in Tottenham High Road late on Saturday
night and into Sunday morning.

Eight police officers were taken to hospital, with at least one suffering
head injuries.

By the early hours of Sunday, many protesters had moved to nearby Tottenham
Hale retail park, where some were spotted looting PC World and JD Sports.

Sky's Simon Newton, in Tottenham, said he saw youths wheeling out televisions
and bagfuls of clothes, but that police were not at the scene.

Shops on the High Road were targeted

Around 120 people had earlier staged a vigil for
shot man Mark Duggan,
marching from the local Broadwater Farm area to
Tottenham police station.

The 29-year-old father-of-four died at the scene on Thursday.

Violence escalated shortly after dark, when protesters set fire to two police
cars and a double decker bus.

The cars, which were parked around 200 yards from the police station, were
set upon shortly after dark.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Missiles were thrown at them. One was
set alight and one was pushed into the middle of the High Road."

A branch of Aldi supermarket was also set on fire, and reports indicated
looters had targeted JJB Sports.

There were also unconfirmed reports that rioting and looting had spread to
nearby Wood Green.

The Met have opened their Gold Command Control centre, in south London -
normally only used for major incidents, such as the Royal wedding and the
student protests.

Sky home affairs correspondent Mark White said: "This is a significant move
for the police.

"This control centre is only ever activated for major public order
events.

Metropolitan Police Commander Stephen Watson

"It has to be a significant event for them to take the decision to move all
their commanders down to this control room.

"There is a very real fear tonight that these localised disturbances do have
the potential to spill out into other areas."

Two vans were set alight near a block of residential flats just off the High
Road, as the violence appeared to spread away from the initial disturbance.

Sky News was forced to withdraw camera crews from the area after being
attacked in the early hours of the morning.

A family friend of Mr Duggan, who gave her name only as Nikki, 53, said the
man's friends and relatives had organised the protest because "something has to
be done" and the marchers wanted "justice for the family."

Some of those involved lay in the road to make their point, she said.

"They're making their presence known because people are not happy," she
added.

"This guy was not violent. Yes, he was involved in things but he was not an
aggressive person. He had never hurt anyone."

Local MP David Lammy appealed for calm, saying in a statement on his website:
"We already have one grieving family in our community and further violence will
not heal that pain.

"True justice can only follow a thorough investigation of the facts.

"The Tottenham community and Mark Duggan's family and friends need to
understand what happened on Thursday evening when Mark lost his life. To
understand those facts, we must have calm."

Commissioner Rachel Cerfontyne, of the Independent Police Complaints
Commission (IPCC), said in a statement: "I understand the distress that the
shooting of Mark Duggan has caused to his family and in the community and that
people need answers about what happened to him."

She said the IPCC had supported 14 family members and friends in formally
identifying Mr Duggan's body, and would have further meetings with his family on
Sunday.

There were pictures with this article, a double decker bus on fire............another example of destructive protests .

"We are still gathering evidence and will release further details about our
progress with the investigation as soon as we can."

Morning kitti,

I was appalled at the violence shown by the few faceless cowards who rioted, not protested at the demo in London recently over pay cuts, the "Black" something they call themselves, this is even worse, drug or booze crazed arsonists who jumped on the band wagon. Just highlights the kind of society
we have created.

Morning Dj Ashba,

whatever the Police do, it"s a case of heads you lose, tails you lose Never mind about sending our Troops to fight and be killed in senseless
invasions of other Countries, let"s look at what is going on in our own Country and use the Military in cases like this, a few water cannons would have helped and more arrests.

Their scared that someone will get killed and this person happens to be black, that is why they won't do it.

And also, remember, this person that was shot had a gun so his 'friends' will have guns....the police don't.

Never know which is PC black or coloured, yes they will scream racist at the police, fact is if you carry a gun you can getshot by the police.

Side issue

I was in the US once met a black/coloured dude gave me an earful, about us whites and slavery in the US, so as I walked out I said, if their had been no slavery in the US he probably wouldnt be here today giving me grief.

In whose interests is it for these people to destroy their own neighbourhood? Sure, a few tellies and trainers have been nabbed, but once those are swapped for some little baggies, what's left? Burnt out shops and other local facilities and services. Maybe someone could give these street-wise guys a bit of a heads-up: not a good idea to sh*t on your own table!

culture in Britain which is responsible for this mindless action and infiltration of anarchists .

Remember the case not too long ago about the American who made several trips to the U.K. , Manchester airport wiith an attache case full of guns.
He told Airport Security that he was a Rep for a Gun Company and the Guns were disabled. It was actually the Americans who alerted the Manchester
Airport Security , the Guy was arrested and charged with importing 80 odd Guns, many were found but several were circulated in Manchester and
bought be Gangsters.

I'm for legalising all drugs. There are areas of the UK which are controlled by drugs gangs, rival gangs fighting for control of the trade and women on the streets seeling themselves for their next fix of illegal drugs. Legalise all drugs and wipe out huge areas of the criminal underworld that thrives on this evil business.

Amazing! I really don't know what to say about all this. My own area has always been quite quiet, but recently there's been a few incidents. Driving towards the town centre the other day, there was a man lying on the pavement, surrounded by onlookers and police. I don't know what that was about, though that part of town is known for homeless people, addicts and alcoholics hanging about.

Last night, the road round the corner was blocked off by police cars and there were several ambulances and a helicopter hovering. There was a blue 'Police Accident,' sign up, but I can't imagine a serious accident there on a road that's usually quiet in the evening, though we do seem to have had an epidemic of Asian boy racers recently, screeching round the corners in their BMWs.
