Re: BAD NEWS,I HAVE DIABETES
Yes, I will admit to becoming a lazy so-and-so since I retired in 2010.
I was diagnosed as diabetic 3 or 4 years ago and managed to lose two stones but most of it has gone back on. I can't get out in the heat but I will try to get more exercise when it's cooler.

Re: BAD NEWS,I HAVE DIABETES
Well, none of us can escape death forever.
I stopped taking Metformin after two days as it was making me so ill. There was I in my innocence thinking that it would just be like taking statins for high cholesterol - no bad side-effects at all.
I know that this situation has arisen because of over-eating and insufficient exercise so the solution is in my hands. I'm eating less and feeling generally better for that and I hope that the weight loss will start soon. I think that the hot weather (which, even pre diabetic days, I always found unbearable) may have something to do with it; not just because I can't get out much but also maybe due to fluid retention?
I have dieted before at cooler times of the year and the weight did drop off quickly then.
By the end of the year, I hope to be a shadow of my former self - in a good way!

I'm thankful that I've had the chance to mend my unhealthy ways before something like this happened.

Hi badboy, It's my opinion that the increase in surgical intervention in the diabetic patient is often times down to dietary habits and failure to comply with the recommended regime by the individual. The Consultants, Dietitians and Diabetic Nurse Specialists can only advise on diet, exercise and demonstrate techniques. It is up to the Individual patient and his carers/family to accept and follow this guidance and work with the medical team to ensure compliance.
The trouble is there are far too many ambulance chasing lawyers who are becoming involved in feeding off the failures of treatment not necessarily the fault of the service and laying the blame at the wrong door. Just my opinion...

SAW THE PROGRAMME DIABETES;THE HIDDEN KILLER ON BBC1,I THINK,;LAST NIGHT,SAW A GANGRENE FOOF WHICH HAD TO BE AMPUTATED,WAS HORRIBLE TO LOOK, AT THE FOOT THAT IS.
ONE NHS AREA POSSIBLY BIRMINGHAM HAS 1 IN 10 WITH DIABETES,COMMON AMONG SOUTH ASIANS.
AS I HAD SAID BEFORE IN THIS THREAD,RECKONED NHS CAN'T AFFORD THE COST OF DIABETES,BANKRUPTCY OF NHS COULD HAPPEN.

In the Express today:
Diabetes cases ROCKET by 75 per cent: Number of adults with disease rises by 1.5million
Data shows the number of adults with the disease has risen by 1.5 million in the past ten years, with GPs now reporting 3.6 million patients aged 17 and older on their records.
There has been an increase of 137,000 in the past year alone – largely due to an explosion in cases of Type 2 diabetes.
Experts warn that the debilitating condition is now reaching crisis proportions.
Every day in the UK, 65 people die prematurely from diabetes while hundreds more battle lifechanging complications.
Each day 203 diabetics suffer heart failure, 78 have strokes, 39 people need dialysis or kidney transplants and 20 people have legs amputated
Diabetes UK chief executive Chris Askew said: “Diabetes is a killer. It’s a serious condition with serious, life-threatening complications.
It is the fastest-growing epidemic of our time. “The more you know about diabetes, the better. “Cutting your risk of developing devastating complications is crucial.”
Type 1 diabetes sees the body automatically destroy its own insulin-producing cells.
However Type 2 diabetes is largely brought on by lifestyle. Cases have spiralled out of control as a result of an obesity epidemic across the country. Earlier this year NHS England launched a Diabetes Prevention Programme, offering advice on healthy eating and lifestyle, weightloss techniques and exercise programmes.

Re: BAD NEWS,I HAVE DIABETES
I think they can make the figures dance to wharever tune they want to play, Badboy. While the likes of Hunt are hell bent on selling off the NHS to their family, their friends and business colleagues they will paint the blackest picture of the workload our Health Service is facing as they can, in order to sell it to their buddies at the cheapest price.
The recent bargain price at their sale of the Post Office shows their greed. The problem we the public who own the NHS have is there is no viable political opposition that will defend the sanctity of any of our Public Funded assets.
Both Blair and Brown had 13 years to reverse Thatchers sell off plans but chose not to, Corbyn will do the same.
They do not tell you that numbers of migrants are entering the country with pre-existing Diabetic problems.
This isn't a racist comment it is a fact.
